  • CUTE

  • haha, free range mantis. I just found one and I keep it in a hampster cage and feed him crickets from the pet store. Is that raw chicken it's eating in the video??

  • @46614jef No, it's not raw chicken. It's from a chicken and mushroom pie.

  • Lovely and fascinating creatures.

  • I'm not sure if "cute"is the right word, but definitely very very cool

  • Is it true that the female Mantis out power the Males

  • @TheVirtualProHD yes. they also rip their heads off and eat it after they have sex!

  • @webkinzgirl008, they moult about every 10 days, on average, but it varies. They usually hatch in the spring. Where are you?

  • what its eating ?

  • I love praying mantis!!! it is like my favourite bug ever! :D i wish i had one!

  • Excuse me, when will my. Chinese mantises first molt happen? They hatch like August 16. I have to know so i dont put food cause i have to watch them eat.

  • I always pronounce praying mantis 'pry mantis' haha

  • Where did you get it, i plan on getting one. And whats the care level 1 - 10 thanks :D

  • @Degitalxxxde3trgfXXX I just find them everywhere; outside, inside. The person who lived at our work took care of this one, but just like me, he did not keep it confined and rather let it roam free. My cats don't bother them and they can hunt for themselves, eating moths and such, so I can't say what the care level of a confined mantis would be. In the case of them roaming free, the care level is 1 or 2, since they take care of themselves.

  • @rudolphsteinkampf

what do you mean by roam free, do you mean completely free around the house?

  • @poeticreject Yeah, but it generally stays in one area/room and they tend to stay clear of the cats. Now and then I would find it in a different room and sometimes they leave the house. I see them more as temporary pets than something I would put in an aquarium. But if I had some really rare and big mantis, I wouldn't let it roam free.

  • @rudolphsteinkampf

wow, I want one now. thanks!

  • He is so adorable!!! I'm in love!

  • I would be scared to have a bug as a pet. not because im scared of bugs. but because what if it gets out and i step on it? I would not want to kill it because bugs seem so fragile to me!

  • where is the tigress, viper, and crane hiding? come on come on, come ouutttt...:)

  • om nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom

  • Wow! That's amazing. I had no idea that praying mantis's would eat meat from a person's hands. By the way, its a very powerful insect. That piece of meat is almost as large as it is, and yet, its holding it with one claw! Compare a person holding--let's say-- an enormous turkey with one hand while he nibbles at it!

  • I've always been weary about keeping insects as pets, they just seem so hard to tame and look so delicate in their exoskeletons!! They are fascinating however, seeing as how far removed genetically they are from us, truly a unique pet.

  • One day it will kill you

  • lol he has the good life, i feed mine the good stuff too ^^

  • Aw, I miss my pet mantis, Maynard. RIP awesome bug...

  • @Hannahbellis is that food healthy for him? i mean with his insectoid body wouldnt that give him diabetes?

  • @soap1st normally you feed him small bugs like crickets and spiders.

  • NOM NOM NOM! :D

  • Pray mantis(s) eat birds, and you keep it in your house?

  • 0:05 nigga i know how to eat ma own food look at hsi hand XDD

  • it's eating chicken?

flying type beats bug type my ass!!!

  • SCYTER the bug flying Pokemon

It Is nearly impossible to parry its

attacking scythes. Its movements are like a ninja's.

  • what would heppen if a FROG was right next to it???

  • nomnomnom

  • lol i feed that to my chameleon

  • also i agree with the previous persons comment!!!..apparently they are amonst the most intelligent species of insect and one youtube user said unlike other insects they have actually feel emotions on a basic scale!

  • "Uploaded by rudolphsteinkampf on 4 Feb 2008

This is the cutest praying mantis! Instead of running away or fighting the camera, this one eats jam and chicken from our hands. Very cute."

..........i was under the impression preying mantis only ate alive food!!...what species exactly is it and how did you persuade it to eat jam n chicken??

  • @seanrodden32 I don't know what species this is, but it's an African variety. I also didn't think they'd eat dead or processed meat, but this particular green species does. The smaller, brown and gray species aren't very fond of dead meat.

  • praying mantis are very good insects, very good for the enviroment, i think ppl who kill them are pieces of shit.

  • NOMNOMNOM!

  • But.... Will it blend?

  • so cute

  • At 0:05 bug is like. Gimmy dat shit.

  • She was adorable =)

  • nom nom nom

  • Hm i like them but their nothing like dogs or cats, dogs and cats love you and an insect...well, i don't think they can get those feelings for their owner

  • nom nom nom nom nom!

  • I like him

  • how long can "it " survive and where did u buy it?

  • how long do these things live for?? i want one.

  • @666jimjimjim At least 6 months. They have quite a short life span D:

  • i fed one of those "cute" things a daddy long legs. it ripped off a few of its legs and beat it to death with em then ate it. SLOWLY

  • @AngieTheTurtle

    REVEEEENGE!

  • @blowupspidermonkey Don't you have other videos to troll than innocent insect videos? What a sad individual... sigh...

  • @blowupspidermonkey whoa dude, how the hell is it any of your business if he enjoys to play with his pet when he's at fucking home? you know...the ONLY place in the world he can do whatever he wants in peace?..and here you come Mr. Fucking B. Workethic and try to spoil what little fuckin joys people have in this shitty world. You sure are a big man...but alot of us actually respect other people...so you good sir, get a life. Have a glorious fuckin day asshole

  • @BlakeTahoe Amen!

  • @blowupspidermonkey uh huh...says that ass bag twat sitting on the internet looking up videos about insects. What you get to sit on your ass insulting people, watching you tube, but someone who wants to show the world something they find interesting is fucked up and lazy. You are a twat with a capital shut the fuck up. Get out of your mama's basement and get a life, jerk. Pull the two by four out of your ass before you try to get the splinter out of someones eye.

  • om nom nom nom...

  • What if a hand of a 6 year old comes outta no where and squishes it?

  • How much are they.

  • @NANOFORGE I don't buy them, I find them in the house or in the garden. I never go out to look for them, I just find them everywhere.

  • @rudolphsteinkampf They get in your house? Maybe you should consider getting a door screen or somthing.

  • @f00tstep I love praying mantises in my house; it's those damn rain spiders I want to keep out.

  • @rudolphsteinkampf Would praying mantises eat rain spiders?

  • @f00tstep It depends on the size of both. I've had some big rain spiders in my room that would devour a smaller praying mantis, but then I've seen some praying mantises catching mice, spiders, lizards, etc. If they were both the same size I would put my money on the mantis. Also, rain spiders are hunter spiders, so they don't spin webs, which will make the match-off so much more interesting. Some species of mantis can grow up to 30cm in length. That species will devour even the biggest spider.

  • @rudolphsteinkampf Ive he=eard mantises can kill somthing three times thier size if they have to. I can believe this because of thier diet consisting of birds, mice, bats, and lizards.

  • Thats awsome dude

  • All Mantis do is eat eat eat eat eat eat eat. Hell the female infamously feeds on the male after mating. I've never seen anything on this planet that over eats as much as this kind of insect does.

  • I called my Mantis Praying Anne...

  • Awwww!!!! It's so cute! These are my favorite insects in the world! (Devil's flower mantis mainly.)

  • Oh those all everywhere at my house!

I'm too scared its gonna cite my hand or spit in my face lol

  • what else can you feed it

  • @98765432123456789987 I'm not sure about nutrition and whatnot, but they basically eat any type of meat. This specific mantis loved to eat jam too, but they're carnivores, so I'd recommend any insect (moths, crickets, etc.) or even ham, viennas or raw meat.

  • @98765432123456789987 mantises are famous for eating any animal it can catch and kill safely, even baby birds and lizards, so it is NOT a picky eater. crickets are very easy to come by as they sell those at pet stores and bait shops.

  • Hannes is a beautiful name for a mantis :D

  • aww that kinda cute :)

  • No praying mantis, thats my pot pie!!, No praying mantis thats a BAD PRAYING MANTIS!!!!

  • beautiful, j/w, how do you get one? finding it wild or ordering or what?

  • @velosiraptor23 I find them outside and in the house. If I knew where to order some, I would have hundreds of them.

  • my likes jam and chicken too.

  • I've just found one of this in my yard :) sweet!

  • do they poop? i mean of course they do but is it a hassle on ur carpets? :o

  • "Yes! Yesss! Feed me, mortal! I will spare your life for your deed! Yesss! Yesss!"

  • How long do they live?

  • @RK831 They can live up to a year, depending on the species

  • these seem like awesone insects they are more like a pet than a insect. They are truely a fascinating creature; i would love to have one. Aren't they also endangered?

  • I have a pet praying mantis as well, her name is Nigel. I also have one named Walt.

  • is it still alive :O

  • I suppose a strip of beef jerky would be to a mantis like a rawhide bone to a daog.

  • can they fly?

  • @Fatkitty1996: Yes, they can fly; similar to grasshoppers.

  • @Fatkitty1996 they can

  • Damnit i want a mantis, whered you get it? i would name mine Hitler

  • Мне очень нравятся эти насекомые!

  • I always thought mantis' were supposed to be huge, when I was in venezuela by angel falls I saw one as long as my forearm

so is this just like.. a baby? Or do different types grow different sizes?

  • @MikeGasm different types get to different size, i have a wide armed mantis (cilnia humeralis) and atm (is actually molting as i speak into 5th instar) as an adult itll probaly be 3-4 inches

  • i have one any tips?

  • that praying mantis is cute i want 2 get 1

  • which kind of chicken is this? cooked or raw?

  • @hurricaneioke: It's cooked chicken from a chicken pie. They'll eat any type of meat. I fed my other mantis steak and sausages. Probably not very nutritious, but she loved it.

  • how do you train them and if you do do they still catch live prey?

  • @rudolphsteinkampf coool !! where u get a mantis peT? buy it or find it?

  • @rudolphsteinkampf do you still have your mantis?

  • wish i would have known this, i would go out of my way to catch live insects, didn't even bother trying meat, used to picky geckos

  • @rudolphsteinkampf no praying mantis will grow to 30 cm!!! its impossible for most (if not all) insects to grow that big.

  • @Sscarloc I got this from the list of the largest insects:

The largest species of this order is the African Mantis. The females of this species can attain a length of up to 12 inches. There have been reports of scientists discovering an unidentified species of mantis in southern China in the 1920's of 18 inches (45 cm.), but this is unconfirmed. Some larger species have been known to capture and consume frogs, lizards, mice, small birds, and even snakes.

  • @Sscarloc

Didn't yo mamma ever tell you that "nothing is impossible"???

    hahahha
