  • As a friend of these dudes, the religious content stems from the bands brothers growing up in a deeply Christian environment. It's less making fun of Christianity than it is an expression of coming to terms with the poisonous upbringing.

  • This band reminds me of at the drive in..good band gotta look up more out their music..

  • I'm not entirely sure what's going on in the comments section, but stop it.

  • Alright to answer the questions about whether this is a "religious" song/band, theres not really a yes or no answer.

One certain thing is that the whole album is a story about the end of the world. But the songs represent various views on how/why it'll happen. They kind of take a story and morph it into they're own (kind of like mocking or reinventing it)

So with "pwned", it does just that. If you read up on it a little, they say they get it from the book of revelations and put a twist on it.

  • @honcho1027 Bullshit. Of course there is a yes or no answer. Anyone that can't see they are making fun of xtians is missing the point of the cd.

  • @TheStrangeRanger Naw they're not making fun of christians. It's more of like they're own twist on different beliefs of the apocalypse from different religions...not just one. But I suppose for someone who doesn't read more into a song and derives a meaning from words alone...yea then I can see how you could arrive at that conclusion...

  • @honcho1027 Clearly you're not too bright or you are a xtian and don't want them to be insulting your imaginary friend. Sorry but old testament apocalyptic evangelist style lyrics are obvious and overt throughout this cd. Anyone who misses this fact isn't very educated or is in denial.

  • @TheStrangeRanger Actually, stranger ranger, I don't consider myself a christian and I'm not too worried about offending people. And as for the "you're not too bright" comment...well all I have to say towards that is if you base peoples' intellect off of interpretations of songs...yeaaa I think you're pointing the finger to the wrong person here.

  • @honcho1027 Your interpretations are so far from reality that it's laughable. It is so obvious that they are making fun of apocalyptic evangelist xtianity. Your claim is simply wrong. Period. If not them how about some examples? I can post plenty of the lyrics in question to prove my point. Can you?

  • @TheStrangeRanger Yea I can see how there are lyrics in the song that would suggest some form of bashing, but it goes further than that. Maybe research the band and the background a little or listen to the rest of the album. Consider this song a piece of a puzzle if you will. Once you understand that, things will make much more sense. But continue to call me names and pick childish fights over Youtube. It seems as if there's nothing more exciting in life to accomplish. :)

  • @honcho1027 Good grief. You really are delusional. I've researched the band. I live in L.A.. I have the cd. Ya. Let's start with this song. It's a puzzle for you. Once you understand it will make much more sense. I asked you for evidence to your absurd claims. Show me the lyrics that prove you aren't wrong. The lyrics to this are clearly poking fun at xtianity. Every line in this song is steeped in biblical lore and is delivered in evangelist characteristics. That's evident to anyone with a clue

  • @TheStrangeRanger Well, my friend, I dont have a link that says what I believe word for word. See thats the difference between you and me. I like to look into things and make conclusions based off MY OWN observations and you like sit back and told what to believe. Typical American. And come to think of it, you want to shove your religious beliefs down others' throats? Isn't that what those so called "imaginary friend" followers do? But like I said, I have more important things to do..

  • @honcho1027 Nice backtracking. Obviously you can't back your assertions with evidence. The lyrics are easy to see. If your evidence is in the lyrics then let's see an example. This seems reasonable. Clearly you are avoiding it because you are simply wrong. What you believe concerning religion isn't relevant. The context of the cd is. You're beating around the bush because you know you're wrong. Man up and admit it or show me your evidence. Or do you have more important things to do? lol.

  • @TheStrangeRanger Haha. Is that how you get your point across? By telling people they're wrong? Nice. Well I guess the great thing here is that I'm free to believe or interpret anything I want and how I want.

  • @honcho1027 You'd be right if the cd was more ambiguous. But it's not. It's blatant. That's why I called you for missing the point entirely. And you have. The delivery of the lyrics and the lyrics themselves are old testament evangelist dogma. Where is your evidence that it's something else? One could argue that it's a mix of religions but where's the evidence of that? Not in the delivery. Not in the lyrics. You pulled it out of your ass is where.

  • @honcho1027 I don't have to insult you to get my point across. It's in the lyrics. This song is filled with references to genesis. That's the bible. The lamb and the lion is from revelations. That's the bible. Manifest destiny is from exodus. That's the bible. The apocalyptic nature of the lyrics on the cd are filled with references to the bible. Where's your evidence to other religions? Where? It's pretty ironic you call me a typical american when you clearly have no clue whatsoever.

  • @TheStrangeRanger Haha Really? You don't have to insult me?? Really now?? Wow..reread those last two posts then. But whatever. I don't need some guy browsing Youtube for a fight to tell me I'm wrong. I believe that the album is deeper and a bit more meaningful than you make it out to be but that's just me. Like I said, believe whatever you want. Notice I haven't told you once that you were wrong. It's because I believe there's not just one answer. If you think there is, then that's up to you.

  • @honcho1027 You continue to prove you have a comprehension problem. I said I don't have to insult you in the context that you do a good enough job yourself. Nearly every song has references to the old testament. They are delivered in old testament, evangelist style. There are no references to other religions. Unless you mean the ancient greek/roman mythical religions that xtianity was derived from. But those aren't current religions. You can't back your claim. It's just that simple.

  • @honcho1027 There's nothing deep and meaningful about any of it. You're looking, and finding, something that isn't there. I suspect it's because you do have a xtian based imaginary friend and can't deal with the fact they're making fun of you. If you don't have any xtian programming then deny the holy spirit. Just type it. Come on. Deny the holy spirit. Then show me evidence of any other religion in these lyrics. Good luck.

  • @TheStrangeRanger Dude. You're getting WAY to heated about this. Its a discussion..But whatever. Continue to pick fights on the internet. I really don't care. But I do have on thing left to say. You keep making comments about the person I am or the way I think. Well since were all making observations here, I honestly think you're one of those people that can talk shit all day online but when it comes to reality, you have nothing. But then again I don't know you. But anyways, I'm done with this.

  • @honcho1027 You're an idiot. You made an erroneous claim about this cd and I corrected it. Period! The entire cd is littered with old testament references. That's a simple fact. You claim it speaks of other religions. It doesn't. I asked for proof of your claim using the actual lyrics. You can't supply it. I can supply proof of my assertion using the actual lyrics. In other words you were proven wrong and you can't deal with it. You're done with this because you're inept, wrong and pwned.

  • @TheStrangeRanger Haha. Whatever helps you sleep at night, buddy. Later.

  • @TheStrangeRanger dude why you making such a big deal everyone interprets music differently its how you make of it that makes the difference. After reading your discussions over this amazing song you seem to make me sick. you have prove no point across by resulting your word index to curse words or yet insults. you have your view over it and so does honcho1027 and according to other people as well as i, honchos interpretation makes sense you seem to be getting heated over a small subject

  • @TheStrangeRanger pretty much showing me that your claim is incorrect or that you simply can't interpret the lyrics in your own manner that you have to be told on what is what. learn how to think outside the box once in a while and stop being a typical american :) any who good night if you want an argument you won't receive one simply because your not worth my time i have my own interpretation on Pwnd. :D byes.

  • @Andrewperezz You and honcho are the same half-wit with two profiles. I have already proven the cd has numerous references to the old testament. It quotes exodus, genesis and revelations to name a few. That is actual evidence to support my claim. Where is yours? For that matter what is your interpretation that is so "outside the box?" You're just a kid. I have 4 degrees, including a Ph.D. I've made my point using the actual lyrics. All you've done is backtrack and avoid the issue. Pathetic!

  • @TheStrangeRanger Just because you have a Ph.D. doesn't make you correct and i applaud you for your Doctrines but by insulting people over the internet of their own interpretations be littles you and shows people like me in general your lack of knowledge for the fact that you have to resort to insults. me and honcho the same half wit? no i believe not i was a fan who wanted to listen to some mae shi and got involved because i find it ridiculous for people like you getting heated over the web.

  • @Andrewperezz Again. I offered no interpretations. I merely pointed out the FACT that the cd references the bible over and over but it does NOT reference any other religious doctrine or tenet. AND it's delivered in a xtian evangelist style. Period. This entire debate is absurd because the lyrics clearly reference the bible and no other religious book. If I'm wrong then prove it. Show me the evidence. Post a lyric that references any other religion. The evidence speaks for itself.

  • @TheStrangeRanger i did post valid information you stated that you got information over half dozen reviews from the cd meaning you got it from other people. While i on the other hand got information from the band members when they had a interview with anthemmagazine...

  • @Andrewperezz I can post quotes from the actual band members that prove my point. Concerning the cd - "Jacob: I think there are just a lot of people that know what the BIBLE is and what you can take from it. But there are also a lot of people who don’t know what it’s about." Notice he mentions the BIBLE and no other religion. Brad: They’re fun topics and they resonate with everyone, even if you’re not a CHRISTIAN. Notice he says christian and on other religion.

  • @TheStrangeRanger to prove your point? Are you trying to make me believe and follow you aspects of the song. i will do as i please i honestly don't care what you have to say anymore for the fact thats its pointless and you're becoming childish on certain matters. In all reality I'm Not a Christian and thank goodness. so no i don't read the book of rev. because in my eyes most of it is Total Bs. but thats my religious preference not yours but anyway i have more to do :) nice chatting with you.

  • @Andrewperezz aka honcho - I'm not trying to make you believe anything. I'm pointing out actual facts. The fact is the band members themselves say it's about the end of the world according to the BIBLE. Yes the songs are open to interpretation but the religious references are ALL from the bible. Period. If I'm wrong then prove it. Just post lyrics that prove your point. Stop avoiding the subject honcho. The band says it's from the bible. They wrote the stuff. I think they would know.

  • @TheStrangeRanger again your clearly mistaking me from honcho and in all honesty I'm not that person but yet you always jump to assumptions. I came on to listen to the song and i was trying to see others views of this song and when i saw you two arguing i jumped in and i agreed with honcho because honcho has some what the same view on it. Besides i prove my evidence so yeah. if it makes you happy your right ok i surrender my interpretations but honcho i like your individual view on this. bye..

  • @Andrewperezz You did NOT "prove your evidence." Where is it? Post lyrics that prove your claim. Just prove your point using the lyrics. I did. You said you did but that's a bald-faced lie. I even used quotes from the band members themselves that prove my point. So I've provided lyrics and quotes from the band that prove my claim utterly. All I ever said was that they reference the bible and no other religion. The lyrics, the band and every review are in absolute agreement.

  • @Andrewperezz This isn't about interpretations of the song. It's about the references to the bible. There are many. I've proven it using the lyrics. You claim it's about several religions. The mae shi say it's about the bible. They say so themselves in the interview on their site. The proof is in your face. I'm still waiting for the evidence you claim to have provided. Where is it? Show me lyrics that reference another religion. The proof is in the lyrics. Post your proof. I did.

  • @TheStrangeRanger heres the quote " A lot of it is about taking religious ideas and trying to look at them through a non-religious lense" " It's a religious and anti-religious album—at the same time!" so if i'm not mistaken there is more then one religion..... and heres the link if you want to read more into it..." now if you were to look a couple post down below where i said i couldnt post the url. then you can follow the instructions. .

  • @TheStrangeRanger yes it does quote references to the old testament but if you were to study other religions as well and seeing how most are similar in most cases then you will realize that this song also brings in the interpretations of other religions. but any how your just going to keep insulting who cares. every one has their own interpretation so take your Ph.D. and be an "educated" individual and allow others interpret the lyrics the way they want to, because in the end your nothing but

  • @Andrewperezz I have studied ever world religion extensively. I am an expert on the subject. If there are references to other religions, as you claim, then you shouldn't have a problem posting an example... Let's see it. I can post numerous examples of references to the bible. Where's your references to other religions? Post one or buy a clue.

  • @TheStrangeRanger chalk on the side walk and no one will really care if your interpretation is right or not. Merely for the fact that its YOUR interpretations and as individuals granted free will, we shall make our own interpretations..... farewell.

  • @TheStrangeRanger brad and bill said: " A lot of it is about taking religious ideas and trying to look at them through a non-religious lense" " It's a religious and anti-religious album—at the same time!" so if i'm not mistaken there is more then one religion..... and heres the link if you want to read more into it...

  • for some reason it wont let me post the url

so then anthemmagazine . com and then /story/interview-with-The-Mae-Shi

  • @Andrewperezz The irony here is that I just looked at a half-dozen reviews of the cd and EVERY single one of them said it referenced the old testament several times. A couple even said it was delivered in the form of xtian evangelist. This is exactly what I said. I never even offered an interpretation. I simply said it was filled with references to the bible, was delivered in evangelist style and that was the only religion it copies. In other words I said the exact same thing the reviewers say.

  • @Andrewperezz Listen. I never offered an interpretation. Not once. All I said was that your(honcho) interpretation is wrong. And it is. If not then show me references to any other religion besides xtianity. Good luck. You'll need it because there are none.

  • @Andrewperezz Here's a bit of interesting information for you to chew on. This quote is from the official mae shi web site. MLLLYH is about "the dark and twisted aspects of the BIBLE." Brad says pwnd is about "the book of revelations." That's the BIBLE. Got it? Go to the official mae shi web site and read the interview. Every member says it's about the BIBLE. You can take your foot out of your mouth now.

  • @TheStrangeRanger mkay. also if you were to read this whole album was taking religious ideas and trying to look at them in a non religious lense. Yes there is bible references in here you dim wit. but also bits of others. if you were to read more into it. So in reality were both right. yes their is bible references in this album but also as other religious ideas.. at least i prove evidence where's your site or whatever aye? mhm but what ever makes you happy strangeranger.

  • @Andrewperezz Wrong again. You're a moron. Look. This debate is so easy to prove. You have claimed over and over that it contains references to other religions than xtianity. If that's true then you should be able to quote them. Shouldn't you? If there are references to other religion's in the lyrics then post them. It's so simple. Just prove your point using the lyrics. Either do that of fuck off. I can prove my point with the lyrics. I already have. Prove your point with the lyrics. You can't.

  • @TheStrangeRanger Mkay what ever makes you happy. Seeing how your becoming childish and resort to cursing seeing how its in your nature. i'm going to leave this subject because arguing with a child is pointless and its going no where. aka arguing with you is time consuming because you get heated over something so small is your life that bad my friend i'm simply having a chat debating? not so much just posting my view on it. but you know stubborn people these days.....

  • @Andrewperezz I have an idea. Instead of running away, backtracking and attacking me why don't you post lyrics that prove your claim? This debate is about the lyrics. The band says the lyrics are based on the bible. Just the bible. The interview with them says that clearly. They don't mention any other religion but christianity. If I'm wrong then prove it with lyrics instead of avoiding the subject. Just prove your point using the lyrics. I did. And the band members say the same thing.
