C'est à frissonner de bonheur, personne, jamais personne, ne surpassera Deutekom et la terrifiante beauté de son chant magnétique, sidéral ! MERCI !!!
for all of you who love Cristiana, my best find was her singing with Paverotti in Lucia recorded live in Verona in 1976 with the surprise of a jet plane passing over the arena during a lovely aria. She is the best
I'm shivering! I simply adore Deutekom and her technique doesn't bother me as in the case of Bartoli that sings anything with the gargling technique, unlike Deutekom that could sing regular legato or the staccato-legato way.
yes, she was strange-yes, she sang too much and not always the right roles-but she was SO exciting when she was at her best! even in Verdi Requiem (oh, yes...with MutiTuckerCossotto), even in Ballo (Muti asked her Amelia, with Tucker)-and she was not inexpressive (well, not always), her Norma was excellent in the last act-and can I say? I was mad about her eccentric coloratura
Sang to much? Her career was ended only because of heart (health) problems. She could have gone on singing for ever...only had to cancel a performance twice in her whole career...such a rock steady voice.
I remember I heard her singing for the first time. Never had heard coloratura like that. I admit it was first so strange BUT soon I realized I was addicted to her voice. That splendid skill to separate each note, the strength and clearness of her shining voice. Her queen of the night is absolutely the best I've ever heard. BRAVA!
By the Time I heard her in San Diego in Norma, the voice was "not there" as it had been. And the late CD she made of the Donizetti excerpts shows that she was probably wise to have stopped... But what a voice and technique! A throwback to the "Golden Age" of 100 years ago... And the "machine gun" coloratura? Sounded like the Porpora technique taught to the castrati when you read about them...
The voice "not there", guess everyone has his/her off days. But she stopped because of heart problems, not because of voice problems. There was a lot in the pipeline. She planned new roles like Semiramide.
Qué voz más alucinante, no me canso de decirlo ni de escucharla. Deutekom está por encima de todas. Decidme si hay otras voces de estas características tanto en sopranos como en otras tesituras. Es la acróbata del canto. Una Pasada. Bravaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
i just had a out of body experience;)such perfection can be lethal.i'll never stop being amazed by the perfect control she has over her voice.Brava!!!
This brilliant voice at the same time so strong and so clear. Can you imagine that she sang even a georgious Amelia(in ballo) and in Bocanegra. Her Norma's were amazing!
This is one of the greatest sopranos of our time ..in the same range of Callas/ Caballe/Sutherland! Brava Cristina!
One of the first LP's (yes LP"S!) I ever bought at 13 was La Deurekom doing cloratura arias sometimes her coloratura was a bit strange with almost a yodelling tone to it,still great Queen of the Night,Abigaille,Norma just to name a few thing she excelled in.
The first Lucia I ever heard was in a scratchy recording of Deutekom with Pavarotti. I was mesmerized. Thanks to this woman I was awakened to the beauty of bel canto.
She is so fantastic and should be much more famous than she is ! Super coloratura !

Incredible technique, but the only time she ever makes a facial expression is in order to get a sound out.

She is so amazing, her coloratura is something out of this world. She was a little flat in the last high note but oh well, nobody is perfect!

Cristina Deutekom is one of the most fantastic performers ever. Her Lucia, Die Zauverflotte... unforgettable.
What if she sounds like a turkey? Well then, didn't Giuseppe Verdi got his inspiration for La Tarviata hearing the chikens at the yard?
