(Ignoring the Frankenstein look that came with doors and hood from other Accords) Rotting quarter panels, Bent Control arms, Broken Speedo, Broken Defroster, Headlights that fell out, Radio that didn't work, Missing speakers... Also, the engine would go through oil like MJ's Jeri Curl in the 80's!! Clutch went and had to match-rev shift for months... I LOVED THAT CAR THOUGH!! LOL

my first car. 1991 toyota tercel. it needed everything. when i say everything i mean EVERTHING. exhaust system, transmission, all fout suspension, brakes, brake lines, fuel lines, gas tank and filler neck, and to make the list a whole lot shorter, it needed a new motor. i wish i had the space to keep her but i sold her to the scrap yard for a measly $150 CAD. i felt like i betrayed her. as crappy as the car was, i still miss that heap of junk!

Bob Lutz must watch the Simpsons. Homer's brother, the guy who owned the car company got Homer to design a car... The idea being that the car consumer knew what they wanted more than the engineers. I think a few of GM's designs looked pretty similar to Homer's design too!

If you're in charge of a car company and you need journalists to tell you whether an in-production car is going in the right direction, you're unqualified to be in charge of a car company.

First car was a 1990 Honda Accord 5spd that i bought off a friend in 2003. HE G'd ME!! That car had SO MANY problems. (Ignoring the Frankenstein look that came with doors and hood from other Accords) Rotting quarter panels, Bent Control arms, Broken Speedo, Broken Defroster, Headlights that fell out, Radio that didn't work, Missing speakers... Also, the engine would go through oil like MJ's Jeri Curl in the 80's!! Clutch went and had to match-rev shift for months... I LOVED THAT CAR THOUGH!! LOL

Another thing: why is Lutz "idea" is considered dirty? If anything he should get a "Took you long enough" sticker. Who would have thought to ask for the opinion of the people who most influence the public's opinion of a car BEFORE production?
An even better Idea is to allow journalists or other "frequent drivers" to test the car for long periods of time.

my first car. 1991 toyota tercel. it needed everything. when i say everything i mean EVERTHING. exhaust system, transmission, all fout suspension, brakes, brake lines, fuel lines, gas tank and filler neck, and to make the list a whole lot shorter, it needed a new motor. i wish i had the space to keep her but i sold her to the scrap yard for a measly $150 CAD. i felt like i betrayed her. as crappy as the car was, i still miss that heap of junk!

myfirstcar...1978 Honda Accord "Hondamatic" semi-automatic 2 speed POS...no clutch...just "stick it" forward from 1st to 2nd...and then go NOWHERE fast...car had a dent in the fender that would "re-dent" after i pushed it out everyday...went to sell it..guy took the test drive..then when i went to leave it wouldn't start..so me and a buddy pushed it out of his driveway..him never the wiser..he was the new owner 2 days later..and rumored sightings of the car came in for the next 4 years.. :-)

Bob Lutz must watch the Simpsons. Homer's brother, the guy who owned the car company got Homer to design a car... The idea being that the car consumer knew what they wanted more than the engineers. I think a few of GM's designs looked pretty similar to Homer's design too!

my first car was Saab's first hybrid car - the Saab 90 of 1985. Not gasoline/electric hybrid, but a hybrid between Saab 99 (front) and Saab 900 (rear). Most people probably hated the design, but I have always loved the weird in favor of normal/boring. Fun to drive too, if you knew how to get the best out of it.

Snatched the keys & ran out to the garage only to find what looked like a typewriter on 4 wheels. Sledgehammer in hand, I toiled for 4 wks to get it running again. Once I got it running, my bro says "You owe me $500". What a degenerate! Paid him off, got some mag wheels & tinted the windows. That car provided some of the best times (literally) of my youth!

#myfirstcar was a 1991 itchybitchy eclipse GSX that was broke 30% of the time and cost me more to fix it than it did to buy it. Wrecked it then fixed it again to only have the timing belt break in the first 15 minutes of driving it after fixing it in the freezing cold on the street. But it killed many v8's when it did run.

myfirstcar was and is, because it is still my only car, a 1993 mazda rx-7 fd3s. I am studying mechanical engineering and the rotary engine won my heart a few years back. I found the first gen to be not powerful enough and the FC to be too much of a ricer, so i went for a left hand drive FD. There's a huge story behind it mainly because it had no engine when i bought it and also because of its price, i am sharing it with my buddy/roommate. cheers from Montreal

(myfirstcar) and I still have it. it's a 1977 IH Scout II. it had 448,000 miles when I bought it, and now has 468,000, which is about 3 years ago in april. it has a 196 four-cylinder, which was the really rare motor, but that's because no one bought it. it's tough as a tank, and i got 30mpg in it. it also has 4wd, is a convertible, and is overall, a very reliable vehicle. :D

My first car was a 2002 mini cooper, it was passed down when my grandpa passed away:( within the first 3 months of me having it, the transmission blew, and no don't wry it was not me, my grandpa would constantly grind the gears and the mechanic said whoever had this before you beat the tar out of it! lol. Considering I was the 3rd owner of the car i suspected problems but not my tranny blowing when downshifting! oh and i had 0 tickets, because it had no balls lol!

Never seriously crashed it and ended up selling it and the end of my affair with it. I was so close to roll the poor thing over. I learned a lot in that car. No ABS, no traction control, just a plain honest little car.

it's a great car, fun to drive, looks good, the only down side is I can't not sell it, or trade it for a better Bimmer, because every time he came back to the State, he'll borrow the car and take it out for a spin.
