  • Please, tell me, how much time has passed since the operation was done till you got the first twitch of muscle activation? And how much time has passed before you could bend the arm at the elbow itself? Please describe in detail your program of rehabilitation and physical therapy after surgery. How often do you spend electrical stimulation of muscles?

I'm really looking forward to your reply!)

  • @Succesexy Sorry it's taken me a bit to respond. I've started a new job that keeps me really busy (proof that this injury doesn't have to hold you back in life!). Please keep in mind that it's been 7 years since my injury and I'm trying to remember... but, I think it took 3-4 months before I started to get muscle twitches back. They started in my biceps and 2-3 more months before my shoulder started to get twitches. I guess I started to be able to flex my arm some (at elbow)...

  • @RomulusRaven ... around the 3-4 month range. Please keep in mind that all surgeries are different and get different results too. Plus, doctors have come a long way since I had my surgery as well. Keep up the hope and seek God during this time. That is my best advice. As for rehab, I don't remember doing a lot of it (then again I'm comparing this to a knee injury that was long, painful, and required learning how to walk again). I did do a good bit of stretching of my arm...

  • @RomulusRaven ... and practicing flexing. I did this throughout the day (not so much in formal rehabilitation). I did use some of the electrical stimulation of the muscles, but not nearly as much as I should have. If I could do one thing over again it would be working out with that more and more formal 'exercise' of my arm. I think I was pretty discouraged at the time and that made me want to ignore and forget my arm more than anything. I hope this helps and encourages you a bit

  • @RomulusRaven Congrats on your surgery and best wishes for the future! I know it's a long and painful process, but you'll be happy you did it in the end.

  • My surgery was in December 2011 (the nerve transfer from the median and ulnar nerve to the musculo-cutaneous and the accessory nerve to the suprascapular). Now I'm waiting for the results of the operation and get the recovery treatment.

I would like to ask you some questions. I will hope that you will answer them).

  • Hi, Adam! Please, sorry for my English))). The results of the operation are great! I am glad for you! Thanks for this video, it gives me hope that I will be all right soon too...

After a car accident in 2011 I had brachial plexus injury. There was avulsion of the C5 and C6 roots from the spinal cord. I had no use of my biceps or shoulder. I did had use of my triceps, some forearm and use of my hand. Besides,I had sensory disorders in the hand.

  • what kind of motorcycle accident? i have damaged a nerve in my shoulder come where in the c5 root losing all movement in my deltoid, supraspinatus, and infraspinatus . I am waiting for news if i need nerve transfer surgery or not. How long of recovery time did it take you to gain initial movement back? Thanks

  • hello,

I am since 2008 reaches the brachial plexus.

To date I have not found a doctor who would operate on me and heal me at

    up.

you have an address or the name of your doctor?

    thank you

  • @SuperTracol Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA. Try the link in the description.

I hope this helps. Best wishes to you.

  • bonjour,

je suis atteinds depuis 2008 du plexus brachial.

a ce jour je n'ai pas trouvé un docteur qui veux m'opérer et me guérir au maximum.

avez vous une adresse ou le nom de votre docteur?

    Merci

  • braaaa braaaa braaaaa okokok

  • Now I understand how your injury was, but I'm just coming triceps branch of radial (c8, t1), C7 anything, but I think back and biceps suprascapular is good, can you tell me how long it took to do the surgery after the accident And how long did it take to get the result?

I know you now what I'm doing, and it's great to see that everything was all right with you, and not to perceive of his injury, 2 more weeks I will begin physical therapy, and I'll try a result.

    God bless

  • I have 17 years, injury c5~c6~c7 day 12/06/2010 , did surgery and was not found to make good root enchert nerves, then was transferred to accessory nerve~suprascapular, ulnar nerve~musculocutaneous for it makes my surgery 3 weeks, now 07/01/2011, its sensitivity thumb this good? I am using google tool to speak in English ^ ^, I speak a sentence encouraging because we'll be without deltoid and would now start college, and I have to stay at home recovering.

  • @nandobr93 I did notice a lot of sensitivity in areas of my arm, but there were also some areas of numbness. I had to miss some of college too while I recovered at home and I know it can be hard being away from friends. Try to keep up hope. Things will get better it is just a slow process.

  • @RomulusRaven As for your deltoid muscle I don't have much of one. Actually that video is really flattering; it makes me look good. When movement starts to come back you make up for the weaknesses you have with other muscles. I make up for my deltoid with neck muscles. Most people don't even notice a difference. Feel free to contact me anytime.

  • Dear Adam, we really appreciate your concern towards this. We are from Sri Lanka and we don't know anyone from States. We would like to know how much will it be needed for undergo this surgery? What kind of a lesion you had in the Brachial plexus? What was your surgery like? Did they transplant a muscle along with the nerve?

I looked at the the link you sent and we are planning to call that clinic in the near future.

Thank you once again. Hope to hear from you soon

    God bless you..

  • @ninuxz89 Call them as soon as you can! They really are great. I guess you are asking about the cost of the the operation for the surgery... of that I am unsure. For one, the accident I was in required a number of surgeries not just the brachial plexus and also we had insurance which paid a good portion of the costs. When you call hopefully they can give you an idea of what the range of cost would be (dependent on the type of operation of course).

  • @ninuxz89 As for the type of injury I had, C5 & C6 were disconnect/severed from my spinal chord. I had nerves transferred from my forearm to my biceps and from my triceps to my shoulder. I didn't have any muscles transferred, but they did mention that as a possible followup surgery that I could have done for my back (and honestly one that I could still use, but I don't think I need it). Less flattering videos show my back weakness. If you wouldn't mind, please PM me your names. God bless.

  • My brother also had a similar accident about 4 years ago. Doctors did several things but still he can't use his arm. He is having an upper lesion (C5,C6). Apart from the little movement in the forearm there is no movement in the shoulder joint. he is very depressed due to this disability. I'm really happy to see some one like him has become cured. can you please tell us the place you have undergone that surgery and some informations about how to contact it. Please reply me. Thank you.

  • BTW, how bad was your injury?

  • It certainly seemed bad enough! I think any loss of bodily function is difficult, both on a physical and emotional level. I found I had to rediscover myself in a way to see that I wasn't really defined by my arm. But, I digress. Nerves C5 & C6 were broken. I had no use of my biceps or any shoulder movement and some limitation in my forearm (supination, I believe). I'll see if I can get videos from the hospital (pre-surgery) to post on YoutTube. email me. -Adam

  • i have "avulsion of multiple elements with possible sparing of more proximal roots no function below the shoulder with a trace of pectoral function and some sparing of rhomboid and serratus"

when you said that C5 &C6 were broken, were they pull off from the root?

i am five months out from my injury, and i am having surgery march 1st.

When and where did you have your surgery?

Thanks for you help man, it really help to talk to someone that have been through this. ;)

  • Mine split apart between my vertebrae and my shoulder joint. However, they couldn't ever visualize it with the numerous EMG tests. My accident was on Feb 22, 2005 and my surgery was in July. Before the surgery they thought they would be able to reattach the nerves using some nerves from my leg. During surgery they realized that the nerve endings were too scarred over and instead decided to transfer some nerve endings from my forearm into my biceps and some from my triceps into my shoulder.

  • Not enough space... This method does limit my overall potential (ie. I'll never be able to lift as much weight as before, nor have the range of motion). NOT THAT I'M COMPLAINING! IT'S GREAT! It also forced me to relearn how to move it. I had to curl my wrist to activate my biceps. Now, when I tighten my biceps my hand muscles tighten too.

  • I've requested the videos from the Mayo Clinic, where I had surgery, I will post them as soon as I can get them. I know that if I were able to see them after my accident it would have been encouraging. Take care and God bless.

  • @RomulusRaven s

hey adam, i am back home recovering from surgery, everything when better that we expected , they took a nerve from my left leg and muscle and a nerve from my right leg.

I will let you know how things goes, and maybe one day post a video showing some movement.

    Igor

  • Sounds great! Thanks for letting me know. Keep us posted and keep up the good spirit. It will take a while, but the wait is worth it! God bless.

  • hello. i have a BPI too. I would like to ask you some questions

  • @joel509k Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have. If it's private in nature, feel free to private message me.

  • i am having surgery next week, i hope i get fix as good as you got fix. thanks for share the video

  • Best wishes with your surgery. I know it can be scary. I didn't know what to expect (in fact, they changed plans mid surgery). Before hand, part of me still didn't want to do it for fear that in a way it was giving up on the possibility of a full healing (even though that looked impossible). Looking back, my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner! Let me know exactly when it is; I'd like to be able to pray for you then.

  • nice, same thing just getting some use out of mine now

  • Congrats! I remember how exciting it was when I got the first twitch of muscle activation. Even though I couldn't move my arm yet it was extremely exciting. It was somewhat discouraging that a lot of people couldn't understand why I was so happy. Try to stay positive and don't let others get you down. It's a long process, but well worth it. Hang in there!

  • my son just had right brachial plexus on wed ...from a motorcycle acident too...could you move your arms befor?...were at mayo too .....

  • I had surgery a number of months after my accident. At the time of the surgery I had NO use of my biceps or shoulder. I did had use of my triceps some forearm and use of my hand. They transferred some nerve from my forearm to my biceps and some nerve from my triceps to my shoulder. If you want me to post additional footage of what I can do today, please describe what you want to see. Best wishes to your son. I will be praying for him and your family.

  • congratulations...!!
