1994 was my freshman year. I was the grand homme with the long blonde braid - one heck of a nerd back then, and I still am. (Software engineer!) This video gives me chills - brings back memories of arduous nights of practice, well-earned praise from our awesome director, and the glorious energy of performance. I'm forever grateful for the chance to work with Mr. B and such great student talent to put on one unforgettable show. Thanks so much for sharing this video.
This is fantastic. You have SOOOO many kids! Jeez, that is like the past six years at Westminster High all combined. Not to say we don't do GREAT shows, we DOOO. We do AMAZING shows. We're doing this one in the spring. :D
This is my very FIRST performance ever! I am the storyteller holding the cane in the first 40 seconds, alongside "Ms. McKrell"(I don't belive kids are calling her Ms. McKrell!). I credit this play as being my first, directed by the now late Roger Babusci aka Mr. "B". Schenley shows were reknowned in Pittsburgh, PA because of what this man taught us. "Believe in the Magic", he would say to us and we always have. We love you, Mr "B" and we will never forget you.
MS. MCKRELL!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! THATS HER IN HIGH SCHOOL!! and to everyone above whose hating...shut up. schenley musicals are the best musicals around. we don't do high school musicals...we do schenley musicals! and we do it with very little adunt help. its all student run and student built. so shut up and stop hating because you dont have that much talent and that you dont have the MAGIC! D-A C-A-S-T!!!
This number is waaaaay over-choreographed. It's like a Disney-on-steroids version of the number - takes out all of the organic soul and only leaves a kitschy, cartoonish quality behind.
I don't think it was overly choreogrphed, it just wasn't the right type of dance. It should have been more African, and less ballet. But you're right, it was too kitchy. And everyone kept speeding up singing the song. It kind of bothered me.
@marthamaya77 Umm clearly you haven't done your research, this show takes place in HAITI, and they are creole which is a mix of haitian and french and not AFRICAN...it's better to know what you are talking about, than to hate on something when you are clearly wrong...read the script, do your homework, then call us...have a good day
