well no there's were you're wrong the south lost diplomatic stance because they had lost the invasion in the north. they could of had it though before the emancipation was issued there you are right.

they would not have lost diplomatic stance because they lost the battle they would have lost it because the Emancipation Proclamation. the Real reason the north needed to win was because if they didn't Maryland would join the confederacy and Washington would be surrounded by the Confederacy. Lee could then capture Washington.
