  • you are a good trainer

  • thank-you for the nice tutorial

  • FUCKING EPIC AREA TO TRAIN

  • uuuuuh im new at this boxing punching bad thing but do you have to put the hand wraps hitting the punching bag?

  • @The1rickybobby1 Absolutely. I'm new too, and the first time I walked in the gym I hit the heavy bag with a bare fist like it wasn't a big deal. It hurts the hell out of your wrist if you punch improperly, and if you throw hard, it can hurt you even punching properly. Always wrap up, and if you're going to go heavily on the heavy bag, always use gloves, too.

  • @ruebuscm i had to learn that the hard way.

  • @The1rickybobby1

yes, absolutely, hand bones weren't designed for punching. absolute minimum if you don't wrap up...get some good gloves or punchbag mitts

  • this id sparta boxing?

  • 3:56 not a bad technique, I will try that in my next session, it is like rolling a blunt

  • wait a minute you gave your wrist and knuckles support but you must also support you fingers by wrapping the wrap in between each of your fingers and also your hand wraps looked a little small so you should get the 180 inches ones

  • @ecw2wwf2wwe that si the beginners way to learn, the handwraps are cotton and enough for that style of wrap. The mexican style video was taken down from YT. Thanks for pointing it out...watch out for the next video on handwraps. Cheers

  • @Dennythetrainer Hey, nice I like this way of wrapping not wrapping between fingers but can I not follow the exact way in order of how you wrap? I keep forgetting the exact order of wrapping

  • @ecw2wwf2wwe the short wraps is not support for the fingers.

  • @ecw2wwf2wwe

knuckle support is optional for bag work, as long as you've got support on your wrist and the back of your hand..that is the most important bit. if you're using smaller wraps, pad out the spaces between your fingers with masking tape..2 or 3 strips between each knuckle joint and 2 or 3 strips around the hand.......bob's yer uncle!

  • Love your approach mate, quite philosophical.

  • 2 years without wraps, do i needto start??

  • THIS... IS... SPARTA!!

  • @berner

    THIS... IS... AUSTRALIA!!

  • @EscarneoExquisito

    maybe so but HE...IS...SCOTTISH!

  • Respond to this video... pleasure my friend

  • @zakadodardaya brilliant man. Thank you for sharing such a very important lesson. It doesn't matter who you are or how hard you think you are. Your bones need protecting - all the time. It takes a split second to get injured and you could avoid that by taking your time and understanding that boxing is an ART. Not simply a barbaric sport where you wildey let off aggression. Controlled aggression release and safety are paramount.

  • i've never boxed with gloves :S I only bought the punching bag to learn how to defend myself and i thought: what if i'm in a street fight? then I don't have bandages to protect my wrists. Should i keep boxing like this ? or actually get gloves ?

  • @orbion2 It is wise to strengthen your hands without gloves from time to time but I would always recommend boxing gloves if you are serious about training hard. 12oz or 16oz gloves also makes training a little bit harder...you'd be surprised how hard it becomes when you have such a little more weight to your punches. Unless you are fighting on the streets each day, I would train to become strong and choose your training program wisely.

  • Got to agree with everyone great videos. Started boxing for the trainin about 1 year ago after seein 1 of your videos was lookin to get fit. got fit enough that i applied for the TA but got knocked back cause of age(am 43).Keep up the good work used to fling left hooks elbows up done it your way so much more control and power cheers.Out of curiosity were do you hail from. Cheers.

  • @kfckillie1 I hail from a small village called NEW ART HILL (all one word) near MOTHER WELL just outside Glasgow. I left there when I was 16 and have been traveling ever since. First I became a Royal Marine Commando, then I traveled as a surfer and musician in Australia, then to London as a bodyguard, then Iraq (5 years) as a crisis management consultant to the Iraqi Government. Then back to Oz where I live as a boxing coach and author. Where to next...?

  • i boxed for three years or so without handwraps and its really messed my hands up so ive started to use them now and i really appreciate the benefit of them

  • @haydnr01

May i ask what happened to your hands?

  • @blarginatorisback Well ive got arthritis in both wrists now, all my knuckles are swollen and scarred up nicely and ive broken my wrist, the bag was swinging towards my i side stepped and went to hook it but my wrist went at a strange angle and snap

  • @haydnr01 handwraps protect the fists, tendons and muscles in the hand and forearms and should always be worn if you intend to no break.

  • this is the first time i've commented on a video, thanks for the tips i feel like i should be paying you for the advice

  • @sw2cr cheers pal and thanks for taking the time to be awesome enough to say.

  • Great Videos you do my friend....I have trained many years and coach myself....SPOT ON keep up the good work !

  • @hardasnails1 cheers pal, keep up the good work :-)

  • im a noob soo does it matter what type of gloves i buy it and how they should feel?? like idk if is normal but i cant feel i make a solid fist with the gloves or probably they r just too big for me.and they feel uncomfortable

  • @425narutofan I recommend that you use 12 oz gloves for hitting the bag. The have more padding and the extra weight ensures a good work out. Making a fist inside a glove is tough, especially with new gloves. I was breaking in a new set of stings the other day and after 10 rounds on the bag, I had numb fingers. Suck it up, it gets easier pal.

  • Your an excellent teacher! I like your style. Thanks.

  • This is great my gym closed the other day so now i can train again with you as my instructor :)

  • @horrwar get in touch with me by email and I will help more

  • @Dennythetrainer will do

  • yea i have wrapped in between my fingures and it feels a nice and secure i don't know which is better?

  • mu favorite band!

  • ive seen ppl wrap in between the fingers. which way is better?

  • @KYNCarena, @jackaaa123, they actually took the hand wrapping in between the fingers video down for some copyright issue. I will get it back up again, I didn't realise it wasn't there. I always wrap in between my fingers. It is better as it keeps the padding in my knuckles more secure

  • Do you recommend the glove hand wrap that is used my MMA fighters?

  • @sailbeyondthesunset MMA fighters have gloves like that because they grapple and need there fingers. I do not recommend you use those gloves if you intend to be a boxer. Keep to the same as the boxing world does when boxing and all will be well. If you want to fight MMA, use the fingerless gloves.

  • how often do you wash yours? I have some but have never used them, maybe i should start. Also thanks for the vids, its nice to watch someone else to better perfect my own techniques.

  • @gavinjoaquinolivas cheers mate, I wash mine twice a year ! :-) My partner hates it but I tell her...leave the sweat on them, there is nothing fresh about fighting. Its like a BOMB DOG - when he puts on his harness...he is at work and he is no longer ruffas, he is a BOMB DOG - simple as that.

  • @Dennythetrainer your poor partner (jokes) i wash mine every time otherwise they start to stink when i take the gloves off want to vomit if their neer face, best trick ive found is to put them in a sock before putting in machine so they dont get tangled with everyting else, granted with this method i do un tangle them before evey training

  • @antiwuss Great tip...putting the handwraps inside the sock. I hang mines up to dry...they only stink if they are not aired and it takes no time to unravel them or getting them on :-)

  • @gavinjoaquinolivas

wash? get a grip guys (no pun intended!) you wash football laces...to get the mud out...are you punching mud? no need to wash then, just take them off, roll 'em up and you're ready to go next time out

jesus, you'll be talking about what kinda fabric conditioner to use next! ;-)

  • very good!

  • Hey, im 17 years old and i just casually box my punching bag for part of my cardio workout. Is it necessary to wear handwraps even though i just hit the bag casually?

And cheers for the great videos

  • nice vid denny

  • hi i've just started boxing and im 14 i practice in my garage, thanks for the vids. helps alot. :-)

  • There is a step by step, in depth chapter on hand wraps in my book, Mastering The Art of Boxing.

There is a deal on now at the website where you can own Fighting Your Demons and Mastering The Art of Boxing together for $38.99

  • I even wrote it down because when I tried it step by step, it was effective. Thanks man.

  • @tacticalunit008 Glad it worked for you mate. There are other, more advanced methods but this does most people for training. I know pro's who still use this method.

  • Cheers man, great help, i can do it with ease after the practise i did :)

  • @keogh27 Its the same as everything in boxing...the more you do it, the easier it gets. Then once you think you have it, your coach sees more that needs to be perfected from the perfect move you already spent hundreds of ours getting right. All the way to the end of your career, you will be doing the same.

  • hello denny I am about 6'4 so as you can guess my hands are fairly large

I use the century 180 inch wraps and they are very very stretchy and I use everlast 16 oz gloves just the normal traing ones and no matter how many different ways I have tried wrapping my hands they always hurt after im done hitting the heavy bag please help me

    Thanks Garret

  • @azfryguy Hey Garret. I use both ways and maybe more so the in between finger method as I also pad out my knuckles. AS an amateur though I didn't tie in between my fingers and I never hurt my hands in the gym. Don't get me wrong, my knuckles would be bruised and bloody but no bone or tendon damage.

  • @azfryguy Garret did you get my email?

  • Hey Denny, great videos man! Anyhow, I've seen some people wrapping in between their fingers. Would that help in protecting your fingers better? Because the way you do it is so much easier.

  • @ipadrian Hey man. I use both ways and maybe more so the in between finger method as I also pad out my knuckles. AS an amateur though I didn't tie in between my fingers and I never hurt my hands in the gym. Don't get me wrong, my knuckles would be bruised and bloody but no bone or tendon damage.

  • see i put my hand wraps on a diffrent way from you. i do it the muat thai way is that ok in an amature boxing fight or will my coach do my wraps for me on the day do you think?

  • @TheCGraham11 I always do my boxers hands prior to them going in the ring. It gives them a sense of readiness that there is a battle about to take place and gives me that one on one moment with them to go over the game plan. However, I am not the same as all coaches.

  • best boxing gym in the world

  • @clicker456 I agree!

  • i live in India...hav always wanted to join boxing clubs or institutes. however, i couldnt do it because of my studies. i practice amatuer stuffs at home. but you r the lightbringer. thanks for helping.

  • @arijeetanubis I am glad you see me for who I am brother. I have not been called the Light Bringer before but I like that very much. If there is anything I can do to help, don't hesitate to ask..ok?

  • @Dennythetrainer Please can u suggest any particular diet one has to follow if training for boxing? I wud request u to exclude beef tho...not that i dont hav it outside but being a Hindu my parents will throw me out. I hav nobody else to ask to in person. and ur name just popped up when i thot about searching for it in the net.

    Thanks.

  • thanks for the video

  • @jassimafia My Pleasure :)

  • I used to train in Tae Kwon Do and bought a pair of wraps to use while doing Heavybag work...My hands would bruise between the knuckles pretty severely (especially on my right hand) and I finally stopped for a few years. Now I'm joining my collegiate boxing team and need to know, will the 180 in wraps be a better investment, or is there a way I could use the 108 in ones to protect my hands better?

  • This is not the proper way to put them on. You have to wrap them through your fingers, it's hard to explain. Just don't do it this way, it's not the proper way. However, I like the way you wrapped your wrist.

  • holy shit his gym is in a frickin jungle? nice

  • thats not the way to put them on

  • You are making a huge mistake by not starting the wrap to the back of the hand which will guarantee the wrap from moving as you close the fist. This is a common fault and should be corrected

  • This was supremely helpful man, thanks.

  • Thanks for posting all these vids Denny. I boxed a little as a teenager and I'm thinking of getting back into it at the grand old age of 37. Your vids have inspired me a bit more.

  • Boxing Gerrard Butler HeLL yeah ! :)

  • wow didnt even secure the knuckles by wrapping in between!

  • @emkplayboy6 wraps aren't for securing knuckles, it's used to support the thumb and rist fucking idiot

  • you're a fucking moron go to in professional gym and you do not see it done this way, the only people who wrap their hands this way are newbs who are just starting out lol which would be you yuff guy!

  • @emkplayboy6

Look right under the fucking video where it says "Here is the correct way to put them on if you are a beginner." You FUCKING DIP SHIT

  • @TravieDarkie ok do it this way and hit the heavybag if you even have one and see how it feels retard

  • @Milasound It's the Foo Fighters, "Come Alive" is the song.

  • bad

  • Putting on hand wraps is more of a science then an art. Like science there are correct and incorrect methods of putting on wraps but in art there is no right or wrong.

Great vids. Really like the one on skipping by this guy.

  • well you can put them on when ever you want but dosent mean it is right

  • Comment removed

  • cheers big man good vid

  • it is 5 metres bandage. :)

  • @yclaxy yea 5 metres and a fuckin tree!

  • @idiotsearcher I've shown this to your mother. She's very disappointed in you.

  • @privateer456 I aint got a mother so u got the wrong fuckin girl dickhead!

  • LOL, only in youtube comments can you get such a jingoistic debate in nationalism...in a video about putting handwraps on.

  • u sound and look like the guy from 300

    leonidas

  • are some of you really talking shit about cotto? and you call yourselves boxing fans? how about you get to pro status, fight the best , and endure a beating from a guy with plaster in his wraps. most of you so-called boxing fans don't know the experience after a fight the pain and anguish of recovering from a bout. all of abuse adds up and can damage you later ,exactly whats happening to cotto, shame on you faggots

  • OMG why did i spend three hundred bux on a stand for the heavy bag when i could've just hung it on a tree? Day-mn!!

  • I hang mine in a tree outside our house, works great :P

  • @skyisfelling true, buttttt.....when it rains it would suck. rust, wear

  • @skyisfelling ha ha true

  • Man, whenever I use wraps, they start to slide around after about an hour and my knuckles bleed alot. This video really helped, Ive alays been a bit sloppy at wrapping.

  • beanerx you're an idiot to joke about something like that. At least emphasize that you're joking. Cotto's career is likely over because of that incident and iit's no laughing matter. Just think if someone went to your job and did something that would possibly keep you from working in that field again. And from your name I'm assuming you are mexican, and racist apparently also which is really fucked up man. Check yourself and open your eyes and realize how idiotic that comment is.

  • manny will kill cotto

  • As i said Cotto got Rocked and he lost!

  • omg dude tyhanks so much!

  • Unfortunately I do agree with some things you say about America being a messed up place, but you come to my door any day looking for a fight, and you'll be going through some reconstructive surgery shortly afterward.

  • eyy!!

    excelentes videos

    muy buenos

    saludos!!!

    see you

    very good!

  • thanks man had no idea how to put them on properly before,

  • SPARTA!!!! lmao this dude rly looks like that main spartan guy

  • only vaguely related to vid but wat do you use to fill ur punchbag. ive used sand, rags and sawdust etc but i find it bunchs up is there neway to remedy this?

  • Not only are you a great trainer Denny, you're a damned fine looking man! Keep up the videos :)

  • like your vids, keep it up!

  • heum.. 'cause my trainer is a champion.. And he says like we need to pass to handwraps beside our finger..

  • Whats confusing you you bro?

  • when you squeeze your hand into a fist is the wrap supposed to feel a little tight?

  • It should feel good. If you are cutting off the blood circulation you will feel the tingles and your fingertips will go purple. If that happens, undo it and go again.

It should feel good, not too tight.

  • dood thank you i never knew how to put on hand wraps till watching this vieo first vid that actually made sense hahah

  • really thanks , this helps a lot!!!

  • I don't wanna get ahead of myself but you don't really need a lesson in hand wraps right?? I mean, just use your fantasy a little and bandage up your hands anyway you feel like, I use hand wraps a long time and maybe I used them wrong but I never hurt myself, I even hit the heavy bag with bare hands and I didn't hurt my wrists or knuckles

  • how about when you put it in between the fingers?

  • man i was so suprised they had videos for this because i was lost tryin to put them on

  • hi, when i punch a heavy bag with my right i feel sharp pain under my index knuckle. is it because i have 108 inch hand wraps. btw i have large hands.

    help me out

  • Hey,

If you have large hands mate you should be wrapping with 180 inch or more. However brother, the question has to be...how long have you been training and how long have you felt the pain?

  • @Dennythetrainer I have double x large mma gloves, so I think I have big hands and I can attest 108 inchers don't give me the coverage i need. Ive broken my pinkey and ring finger on the right hand and my index finger on my left. "This was when I was very new at the sport". Even if you have small hands, 180 wraps should be used, then extra can go to more wrist support. You can never have too much wrist support.

  • @azreal289 Most of my wrap goes around my knuckles as padding. There is another method where you fold the wrap over the knuckles five or six times then wrap that into the hand. I thought I had another video up here for that. I will look out the other video I did for the pro's for you to have a look at.

  • if you like what I am teaching here...jump over to my channel and see what I am doing today!

I have written a couple of cool books, put a DVD and Audio workouts together. I am giving FREE stuff away on my website for a couple of weeks.

  • what was the song at the beginning

  • great, now i have to go buy a tree...

  • lol

  • spread fingers wide and squeeze them in and out as wrapping to keep blood pumping and so its not so tight it cuts off circulation. my coach forces me to do a kriss kross pattern over my palm and knuckles and doesnt let me put round thumb even though i prefer it.

  • thanks a lot mate i know it off by heart now haha :)

  • Hand wraps are manufactured in 120 up to 180.

120 hand wraps are the recommended size for the smaller hand. If your hand wrap is too long you will have to make extra revolutions around your hand & wrist which could make the hand wrap too bulky to fit inside your glove.

170 or longer are recommended if you have a medium to large sized hand. The larger your hand the more length you will need to ensure you have good protection.

  • thanks for this video ! helped me :)

    have fun !

  • hello to my scottish brother :)

  • Hey Denny. you are an excellent teacher. your helped me a lot

  • thanx man that going to help me i hope

    thanx

  • can you reuse hand wraps?

  • yeah you just have to wash them dude!!!

  • Hey Denny! I just started working out on the bag following tips from your videos. I've filmed a few different rounds on my site. The rounds are hand wraps, no gloves. Could you critique them. I plan to buy your books and vids. Great tips pal. Cheers.

  • The thumb has one long flexor and a short flexor in the thenar muscle group. The human thumb also has other muscles in the thenar group (opponens- and abductor muscle), moving the thumb in opposition, making grasping possible.

The extensors are located on the back of the forearm and are connected in a more complex way than the flexors to the dorsum of the fingers. The tendons unite with the interosseous and lumbrical muscles to form the extensorhood mechanism.

  • The primary function of the extensors is to straighten out the digits.

The thumb has two extensors in the forearm; the tendons of these form the anatomical snuff box. Also, the index finger and the little finger have an extra extensor, used for instance for pointing.

If you are still not convinced that your hand has small muscles in it..."Google it" and you will be able to see how they are situated in the hand.

So on that note...make sure you put on your hand wraps correctly and avoid injury

  • my hand wraps are ta:108 and are too short for my hands which are the longer ones i already kinda messed up my wrist

  • There arn't any muscles in your hand... Just thought I would let you know. Good tut

  • Then if thats the case how do we move our hands?

  • Through tendons in the arm (kinda like a puppet on a string)

  • Okay, time for a quick lesson dude.

You are right...there are tendons in the hand which come from the deep flexors. However, it would be a bit weird if you had these tendons doing all the work...don't you think.

The intrinsic muscle groups are the "thenar and hypothenar" muscles. (thenar referring to the thumb, hypothenar to the small finger), the interosseus muscles (between the metacarpal bones, four dorsally and three volarly) and the lumbrical muscles.

  • These muscles arise from the deep flexor (and are special because they have no bony origin) and insert on the dorsal extensor hood mechanism.

The fingers have two long flexors, located on the underside of the forearm. They insert by tendons to the phalanges of the fingers. The deep flexor attaches to the distal phalanx, and the superficial flexor attaches to the middle phalanx. The flexors allow for the actual bending of the fingers.

  • ....

  • Mrmagiccity27 Get in touch with me and I will help you lose that weight and get in shape dude.

s121202 - the simple answer mate is that you don't need to.

  • really like your vids on boxing but i dissagree with your reply to s121202 because wrapping around your fingers is

    1. to protect the knuckles more

    2. protect the fingers

    3. stop the padding of the wrap across the knuckles form lifting when you put a glove on

  • Hey Mate

These video's are for the beginner and there can be more damage done with a wrap being put on the wrong way in the beginning when trying to wrap in between the fingers.

It is an individual thing and an individual coach thing. In amateur boxing the above method is common, in MMA the in between fingers method is commonly used.

Thanks for your feedback and opinion though. That's why these vids are here man. SO people can add to their knowledge and suss out there own styles.

  • true if you wrap between fingers rong it can be damaging but dong rite has lots on benifits

  • Happy New Year Guys!!

I am working around the clock to get my book ready for this year. It has just came back from the editor and I am now going through it again. I can't say when but I can tell you that you will have the offer to buy it first and with a crazy discount!

    Until then...

    Fear no one!

    Dennythetrainer

  • why don't you tape the space between the fingers?

  • Hey Dannie, I wanted to ask if I to start boxing professionally, in tournaments, formally, how long would it take?(keeping in mind the conditioning and technique). I took a few kickboxing sessions about 2 years ago, so I a bit of the basics. My description is basically that I'm currently about 195 pounds, 5'11'', and I need to lose about 15-20 pounds of fat. Lastly, How much work does an active professional boxer need to do, if he is aiming for the belt?(how many rounds will that last?)

  • Sorry Dennie*. I'm used to typing my friend's name "Dannie".
