IM SORRY but even when her attitude sucked, she had good reason to be upset because she deserved to be ahead of Timoshenko and home gymnast Pascual. Her routines were interesting, playful and way more difficult, however the judges were clearly against her giving low scores all day long (Timoshenko had a big mistake in ball and scored higher than Skaldina) and Pascual was a good gymnast but if these games were held outside Spain, I honestly dont think she would have won that medal.
@abrahamnextel It doesn't excuse her behavior, but I agree that the judges were too harsh on her all day. She made a big error on her rope routine, but I thought her hoop, ball and clubs were really terrific. Her scores should have been higher.

You can see she nods her head in response to something someone is saying to her before she gets on the podium, or at least it appears that way. I would like to believe that this atrocious so of sportsmanship was not all her idea. But if it was hers.. That's a completely different story... Maybe Skaldina had the most anti-sport behavior at this olympics, but personally I enjoy more her routines instead Timoshenko’s… in the other hand, it looks like the Deriuginas did all the possible to make Timoshenko routines boring... have you seen her ball routine? It sounds like a funeral.
Oksana Skaldina is by far the prettiest girl on that medal stand but that was such a bitch move to do!
This might be something that Svetlana Khorkina grew up watching because it's something similar to things that she has done...though never quite this bad.

seems like her coaches, reps may have encouraged her to do it. Government reps and coaches are probably under way more pressure coming from Russia and ex-Russia than any other countries. She may've been told to do it so. Gymnasts were very controlled at these times

Skaldina no sabía perder, le pasó lo mismo en el europeo de ese año en el que quedó 5ª en el que no paraba de llorar y no asimiló que Kostina la superase y que consiguiera la 3ª posición. De hecho Kostina tenía que haber ido a la Olimpiada en lugar de Skaldina.

Yeah, that was pretty lame of Oksana. One can understand why she would have been upset but she should probably have been more upset at her own teammate, Timoshenko, who rather obviously was carried to the gold medal position by the judges. She has a drop and still outscores all her competitors? That was favoritism at its least discreet.
This was at a point in RG when you could get some low scores and still get in the medals. This was the only time in the Olympics (except 1984, which is a different story) when you could get below a 59 (or 39 in later Olympics) and still win a medal.

Well, she might as well as stab Pascual then! That would've been a far more honest reaction! Sometimes in sport, you can't express your true feelings of anger, bitterness and sorrow. As far as I'm concerned, most athletes hate their opponents for outperforming them, but congratulate them and shake hands anyway. It's called fair play and I prefer it that way!
Because it's not war. Ultimately it's just a game. And athletes, when they're outperformed, should be able to congratulate the person who was better than they were--it's called good sprotsmanship. And I say this as someone who HATES to lose.

Poor of Skaldina! Her routines were original, graceful and so natural. Pacual was good but not as natural, slightly rigid and not so original as Skaldina and Petrova, very good anyway, but below the Ukranians and Bulgarians. Poor of Petrova too.
The negative attitude was not from Skaldina, but from the judges.
carolina deserved this medal, she made an exceptional competitions, that of her life. But I think that in an another country, in the OG, she never could win the silver. But I'm happy that she win it!
Also if not correct, Skaldina can not give the hand to her...but she made an error: to do it in Spain!And however the place was of Kostina. Probably Pascual , also with Kostina, have had the silver, but I'm happy that this umiliation fwas for Skaldina.
That was the end of Oksanas Career. Very sad her behaviour, but her routines were also very sad and some kind of poor. Far away from the gymnast who became World Champion. She was lucky that Carmen Acedo and Maria Petrova had some mistakes, and very lucky that the judges scored her very gentle. In many routines were Petrova and Acedo much better than Skaldina.
Skaldina didn´t deserve a medal.Even she wouldn´t be at Barcelona.The place was of Kostina who placed better than Skaldina at nationals.Carolina made the competicion of her live and deserve the medal.
Barcelona RG was such a joke,Timoshenko got all the high scores while skaldina and petrova were slaughtered by the judges and 2 spanish girls who almost came from nowhere ended up second and forth.Anyone could see that something went really wrong.
Wow that was quite a shock,seeing it for the first time.Of course Skaldina had every right to be dissatisfied,she was a magnificent gymnast,world champion in 91 and sure she expected stg.better in barcelona,but then again the results were predetermined i fear.Still that was so bold,and in front of the spanish spectators!!!
The pity is also that Skaldina didn´t deserve to be at the Olympics. It had to be Kostina in her place. Bad choice, Kostina was in an amazing form and maybe she could have fighted for gold.
Carolina´s silver is doubtless. Everyone who compares the routines of both can see that she was slightly better in everyone of them.
There is so much more behind it besides she didn't win the silver. RSG was/is/will always be all about politics and in 1992 there was a fix. Temo would win, a Spanish gymnast would get a medal. so basically Skaldina would just fall wherever the judges wanted her to go, regardless of who was the best that night. I would be pissed too if I was Skaldina.
Poor Oksana. Barcelona must have been such a nightmare for her, with the fix for Timo and almost committing suicide and whatnot. And probably knowing that Kostina should have been there, anyway.

Because it's not war. Ultimately it's just a game. And athletes, when they're outperformed, should be able to congratulate the person who was better than they were--it's called good sprotsmanship. And I say this as someone who HATES to lose.

What a bitch! She shouldn't even be there, the second spot for the Unified Team should be Kostina's! Besides, if Skaldina had a problem, she should blame the judges not Carolina Pascual!

Poor of Skaldina! Her routines were original, graceful and so natural. Pacual was good but not as natural, slightly rigid and not so original as Skaldina and Petrova, very good anyway, but below the Ukranians and Bulgarians. Poor of Petrova too.
The negative attitude was not from Skaldina, but from the judges.

carolina deserved this medal, she made an exceptional competitions, that of her life. But I think that in an another country, in the OG, she never could win the silver. But I'm happy that she win it!
Also if not correct, Skaldina can not give the hand to her...but she made an error: to do it in Spain!And however the place was of Kostina. Probably Pascual , also with Kostina, have had the silver, but I'm happy that this umiliation fwas for Skaldina.

That was the end of Oksanas Career. Very sad her behaviour, but her routines were also very sad and some kind of poor. Far away from the gymnast who became World Champion. She was lucky that Carmen Acedo and Maria Petrova had some mistakes, and very lucky that the judges scored her very gentle. In many routines were Petrova and Acedo much better than Skaldina.

Skaldina didn´t deserve a medal.Even she wouldn´t be at Barcelona.The place was of Kostina who placed better than Skaldina at nationals.Carolina made the competicion of her live and deserve the medal.

Barcelona RG was such a joke,Timoshenko got all the high scores while skaldina and petrova were slaughtered by the judges and 2 spanish girls who almost came from nowhere ended up second and forth.Anyone could see that something went really wrong.

corrupted juges,political problems etc.

Wow that was quite a shock,seeing it for the first time.Of course Skaldina had every right to be dissatisfied,she was a magnificent gymnast,world champion in 91 and sure she expected stg.better in barcelona,but then again the results were predetermined i fear.Still that was so bold,and in front of the spanish spectators!!!

The pity is also that Skaldina didn´t deserve to be at the Olympics. It had to be Kostina in her place. Bad choice, Kostina was in an amazing form and maybe she could have fighted for gold.
Carolina´s silver is doubtless. Everyone who compares the routines of both can see that she was slightly better in everyone of them.

There is so much more behind it besides she didn't win the silver. RSG was/is/will always be all about politics and in 1992 there was a fix. Temo would win, a Spanish gymnast would get a medal. so basically Skaldina would just fall wherever the judges wanted her to go, regardless of who was the best that night. I would be pissed too if I was Skaldina.

Poor Oksana. Barcelona must have been such a nightmare for her, with the fix for Timo and almost committing suicide and whatnot. And probably knowing that Kostina should have been there, anyway.
