  • My grandaughter just had one of these. We were ready to take her to the ER!!! kicking, screaming could not comfort her, and then like a light switch, done! When she woke up, happy, fine. This was just SCARY!!!

  • I'm happy that I'm not alone because I'm a kid and I get night terrors a lot and it's usually me screaming and yelling HELP and running I just think that I'm gonna have them every night so I get scared but I try to forget them I sleep alone in a basement and I know it's kinda weird to say this because kids my age usually don't but the dark down there makes me see things and creeps me out sometimes

  • i haven't had any experience with them (thank God) but i've heard that it's good to wake them up about 30 minutes or so before the time they usually start.

  • My night terrors would make me hallucinate when I was a child; I would be half asleep and see pretty scary stuff and that I do remember even now. But when I would have a full blown night terror, I wouldn't remember anything in the morning, let alone know it had happened.

I'm 23 and I have night terrors rarely, but still have them. I usually yell out and scream but remember nothing.

  • i can so identify with this,my daughter started at 2 years old and she is now 5 years old.At least 3 times a month, sometimes even as much as 5 days straight. She bolts up from a what appears to be a peaceful sleep screaming and tries to get out of bed her arms go stiff and she seems to be pointing at nothing(or maybe something she can only see).Sometimes she gets violent hitting, biteing or kicking, she does not seem to notice us stareing through us.all do is make sure she is safe and ride it out

  • I've only had one to my recollection, all I remember is that I was screaming/screeching out loud.

  • sometimes i wake up with a tiny memory of my basement, then when i leave my room my family told me i randomly walked down into it and just stood there..

  • This makes me cry really sad...

  • My son is 2 1/2 and every six weeks ir so he will have one every night like 4 days in a row and it is exactly like this.... only he sometimes has his eyes opened and looks like he is awake.

  • Sad. Yeah you cannot be touching them and stuff it just makes it worse and makes it last longer. My friend has these and we fucked with him all night one time as he cried and did evil laughes and punched walls thinkinng he was being stabbed.

  • You really need to fight your parental instincts and not pick up your child while this is happening. Touching the child or (extremely rare) adult will make their sense of fear more acute. You can help by softly speaking reassuring words. I do sympathise. My own night terrors lasted into my teens. The doctor informed my parents not to touch me and they noticed that the terror was certainly less violent when they didn't.

  • i used to have terrible night terrors. like really bad ones i used to slam myself against walls. and i would scream so loud. i don't remember them though except for like 3 seconds of them but this is what my parents told me.

  • Is it possible for a 13 month old to go through this? Just an hour ago, my son all of a sudden started to shriek in horror. I was just as horrified. He calmed down after a few minutes but I kept him awake and layed down with him (I crawled into his crib!)It was terrible!

  • It is possible, I would suggest taking steps to see if you can treat it, by making sure your child stays on a regular nap and sleep schedule,

  • I'd say yes. I had night terrors pretty regularly as a child and some of my earliest memories consist of bits and pieces of this. Its a malfunction between REM sleep and waking so I'd say any age person could have them.

  • @iamvenus yes it is

  • im going through this at the moment with my 5yr old, and its so upsetting, she dosent kick but she screams and crys with a panic look on her face. her eyes are wide open but darting about all over the place looking for whatever shes seen

  • When I had night terrors I didn't kick like that. I just cried hystarically and if I did wake up in the middle of it it would take me a while to snap out of it. I hope Emma outgrows this awfull thing. I know what it's like. Best of Luck, Emma!

  • I use to suffer from them when I was little, I actually can still remember the nightmares, and to be honest they werent that scary (most of them) more weird.. I would see things crawling up the walls, faces in the curtains, things like that.. *shivers*

The way my parents described what happened when I was having one (screaming with my eyes open)

Your daughter will get through this stage, and will have a peaceful night sleep soon! Best wishes xx

  • This is very hard to watch and listen to.

My 2.5 y/o daughter's night terrors are nowhere near as bad but still deeply distressing (for both her and us - the parents).

However. It's almost comforting to see that this is more common than we think and that other people go through it.

  • i had night terrors all the time when i was a kid i didnt know until my dad finaly told me. he said i used to wake up while he would watch tv late at night and run out of my room to the basement and just sit at the corner near the door of my garage. and when he tried to call my name and come near me i would completly ignore himand jet upstairs and scream and finaly "wakeup" unwaware what just happened.

  • Hey, I posted a few other places.

But, as a 27 year old that went through years of night Terrors when I was younger... I found a cure for me. I've never heard of it, but I just ran across it.

I always put the TV timer on, or play a podcast, comedy show or something... something to keep my senses running until I hit Deep Sleep.

Absolutely works for me. The only time I've ever had a night terror was when it was stone quiet in my room when I fell asleep.

  • It is horrible. My son has them about once every 4 months. It's a incredibly scary thing. The really tough part is they are often worsened by holding him. So, you have to sometimes leave him in his bed and let him cry like that.

  • I used to have them when I was younger and am 20 now but still suffer from them and am a diagnosed insomniac. I am actually writing a book on children with night terrors, I believe that these children condition themselves into insomnia by subconciously scaring themselves awake. I would love to figure out something to comfort kids who have these horrible things. Your video is so educational and I have used it twice in psychology classes. I hope Emma stops having them.

  • thanks for not being a prank like other videos on night terrors.yeah my daughter has just started getting them it is the scariest thing ever, she says help me screaming and kicking for about an hour, her eyes are wide open aswell,i could cry just writing this.hope your daughter is ok ,thanks for the post

  • lol me to i would say help me except at the toliet

  • Thank you for posting. This is educational.

  • this is horrible
