as an experiment it's interesting. i happen to know the dancer, jolanda boejharat (studied with her - indology) she's very accomplished, but this performance doesn't do her justice
This is really combination of 3 indian dances: bharatnatyam, kuchipudi and kathak even. Dancer is doing just the basic movements of those dances. And it may all look cute to those who are not familiar with dances and also indian music. But to those who are, these combinations of dances and music are really making just giving one messy feeling.
Dear "dpinvogue", I agree with you, the movements of the beautiful Bharatanatyam dance does not match with the beauty of the sound of the Balinese Gamelan, But I love both arts: the indian and the indonesian.
I must agree with you. South Indian (Carnatic) music has a very different cadence. There is a dance (music) called mallari where the raga is repetitive, and it may be what influenced gamelan music, but the rythmn is totally diffeent. Gamelan music is totally Balinese and it workes with alinese dance, not with Bharatanatyam
This kind of dance is called "Kitcheri"

I think the music is too slow for an Indian dance, though. Maybe more dynamic and lively Balinese will do better for this kind of dance.
