this is the better version, there is another Cream 2005 version of Stormy Monday on YouTube from a different night that is certainly good, but this one is a little better.
Wowwww! He plays a killer version of this song!!! The sound of that guitar echoing in MSG is just jaw-dropping crazy good! I like this as much as B.B. King's version or Bobby Blue Bland's version. How he plays what he does from 5:16 onward with that bending sustained note is the most beautiful blues....
this is perhaps one of Eric's seminal performances - the bluesman - perhaps never sounding finer. The holding of one note (you'll know it when it comes) - simply sends tingles... only a very few access such depth of expression...
@agapefriend04 I have heard EC do that trick so many times in so many solos over the years and it is always magic. It fits in with his philosophy of music that "less is more". Subtle changes of vibrato and the attack on each pick of the note make it a solo in its own right. I have never heard any other player who can do that and make it believable. it is what makes EC the best white bluesman ever.
Wow, great post! Amazing sounds of the guitar and vocals by Eric... Thank you for sharing, I am going to add this one to my large list of YouTube E.C. posts!
I saw him live in 2007, and this sound is for real - no real comparison to him, except maybe Freddie King, Buddy Guy and Albert King.
haha dymond's right about why they call him slowhand. i had some idiot try to tell me otherwise before and i just referenced my good ole "eric clapton autobigraphy" :)
@alexrios12 actually slowhand came from the slow hand clap that ppl use to do when clapton was restringing. Slow hand was just a shortform for the slow hand clap. He plays sick fast so it obv does not refer to his speed
eric diamond how dare you lie about the reason for his nickname slow hand. He got it from the slow and soulful and electric blues you fucking peanut dont comment on something you no nothing about this man is a fucking legend so dont diss!!!!
Its actually true, even Eric says its due to the "slowhand" clap that audiences would give while waiting for him to restring his guitar in the early 60s.
He was called slow hand because in his early days he used ultra light strings which would break at times. He'd then have to restring his guitar which took time - slow hand.
whatever the dudes name was that reffered mw to this from a prior comment...i salute you for introducing me to this...my opinion???this is simply the most unbelievably soulful form of the blues that one can ever possibly hope to come even remotely close to during their greatest years as a guitarist...brilliant is a brazen understatement to describe this ..this rivals any sounds from a guitar that a human has ever ever made in the history of man...ater hearing this , ill never look at EC the same
@lasvegastoneworleans i agree with your comment so much...he puts so much into his music...this is a bold statement but i love and respect him so much more that jimi hendrix
anonymusum, if anything these shows they made in '05 prove that their music is still current and even better than some of the new music today, they were groundbreaking and ahead of their time and that's why they hold up today, when I saw this song on the dvd I couldn't belive it, Clapton takes it to another level, he's still a force to be reckoned with and to me this is one of Cream's greatest performances ever.
What happened to that nice clean vid of Cream doing this song, what happend to it, copywrite bull shit I bet. Tho this is not bad for a camera phone version.
