  • Our world is most certainly NOT better due to computers. I'd take the 1980's any day over today!

  • ive never seen this, growing up in this horrible generation, but i love watching 80s and 90s movies and im gonna see this soon:)

  • Shall we stop watching this?

  • CHUCK

  • Galaga rules!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You think the World learned from this movie?

  • one of the best cold war/hacker movies ever made

  • I'm here because of Ready Player One.

  • @randylin2626 Defcon was the game that bought me to this video today! :D

  • @aiu7125 True thinking machines are still a good 100 years away according to Moores Law, although new graphene super transistors currently being developed could make this timescale a lot shorter!

  • @aiu7125 Even with computers as powerful as they are today we are still many years from achieveing the same processing power as an insects brain, let alone the reasoning skills and self awareness it would take to "learn" The closest they have come so far is the IBM 'Watson' computer built to play Jeopardy, and as advanced as this is it is still just an example of clever multi layered algorithms designed to complete a single task.

  • i didnt find this movie great i think they could off made a few changes and glitchs but hey thats why i wont watch it again in a hurry

  • I like theory discussed in broad ways towards the end of this film.

If you take out computer programming or "hacking" as I know nothing at all about those subjects (and this has caused some confusion) you will understand me more:

    My questions are:

Can a computer learn, what we as humans do not yet know? Can a computer mind become greater than our own mind? What do you think? Sincerely, Jason Lowen

  • @aiu7125 People that ask this question sincerely have no understanding of how computer programming works.

Take it from a robotics veteran, this question is impossible to answer because of how absurd it is.

  • and then some person created a game called DEFCON: Everybody Dies. There is a trial of the game you should try it go type it in google. You can do what the kid did in this game!

  • am i the only one that came hear cus hering it on how i met youre mother.

  • DEFCON =D

  • Trailer of the day!

  • They don't make movies like this one any more. It was a blockbuster and cost - - 16 Million Dollars in all!!

  • This movie remind me C&C Red Alert or World in Conflicts

  • I LOVED this movie. Mainframes are awesome.

  • anyone know any good technology documentaries (hopefully not crap ones)

  • is there any good '80s good movies

  • @TheHengKong this is one of them you idiot

  • Stupid Hacker

  • - Shall we play a game?

    - how bout zombie apocalypse?

    *rawr*

  • shel we play :DDDDD

  • - Shall we play a game?

    - What about GTA Vice City?

    XD

  • READY PLAYER ONE...

  • good movie !!!!!

  • Mega movie. And whoever the voiceover guy is he's been on so many trailers that he must have made a mint.

  • gosh i love these old 80's computers!!!

  • i think movies were more creative in the 80s...and fun

  • brb going to torrent this

  • damn u cant win against steven hawking

  • ready player one....

  • My dad was in the air force when this happened. (obviously, it didn't happen like this, it was just a mix-up in tapes, but they still thought they were going to war with russia)

  • Not many people know but its a fact that in Russia back in the 60's had a training drill and a Russian missile technician almost accidentally launched Nuclear missiles towards the USA by mistake. That would have been a major OOPS!

  • I hate the part in the movie where they say Faulkens age as being 41 yrs and then the girl says,"Oh that is old".I am 39 and that is not that Old,yet.

  • How did he get from hacking a school computer to getting into a high security government warfighter program that fires nuclear warheads and not know it? How do you even play games within a hacking program? Still a smart movie.

  • @Hikarilover123: Back in the early 1980s, it wasn't known what people could or could not do with home computers, since they were so knew.

  • UGGGHHHHH its 2011 and im still waiting for a theater near me to play this, false advertisement? annnnddd i think a kid was playing a kill osama game but it was real life and he actually ended up killing him

  • This clip is making me so nostalgic. Long live the 80's!!

  • Well hope there ain't gonna be any campers and noobs in this game or FML, literally :P

  • lol playing soon XD

  • the '80s were great

  • kiss my ass sayfadeen6

  • Play too many games, fool soviet and american computers into thinking nuclear war is starting, you can't explain that.

  • This movie was soooo bad ass when it first came to theaters! Home computers were just coming into their own and it seemed like you could do ANYTHING on a 5" floppy!

  • Saw soooooo based their movie from this movie!

  • @BatspindaVL You're an idiot.

  • @AvatarTwasCheesy Thnx mate

  • is this real or a game joshua? what is the difference.

  • Mathew Broderick. Holy sh*t

  • hahahahahahah thats sadly, how easily war starts these days... : /

  • He's so young! My goodness.

  • He's so young! My goodness.

  • so good!!

  • i came here to let everyone know who reads the comments of this fine film made back in the 80s. -Remake coming- was in my yahoo news. sorta upset about it but figure i should share to other fans of classic movies. peace -- lol

  • This CIA interrogation really took the motivation out of Matthew Broderick. The next year he dumped his girlfriend, found a new one, became a truant and skipped school while dancing around Chicago.

  • @xuimod Isn't this a true story about Kevin Mitnick? I heard he could launch a nuclear missile by whistling into a pay phone. I think they did a trilogy. There was this one (WarGames), the one you're talking about where he basically just ducks out of school all the time (I think that was the period where he was banned from computers. I can't remember the name of that one), and then Hackers was the last one.

  • Even the trailer gave me goosebumps after all these years....

  • The 80s were so cheesily awesome!

  • I loved that movie when i was a kid. But who remebers the other one where the computer was calling to radio station asking "what is love" and it was speaking to his owner? What was the title of it?

  • How about a nice game of chess? :D

  • 0:32 woah, looks alot like Emma Watson 0_o;

I still have the game with me...wasn't too bad..

  • 4% of people couldn't win in Global Thermonuclear War XP

  • @BigBForBoss cause I look in the mirror, say it and I scare myself why else do you think I say it to the victims lol

  • Can't wait for the reboot

  • LOVE IT *______________________* !!

  • This really is one of my favorites. It's the only hacker-esque movie I've seen that is more or less technologically accurate (as far as movies go anyways xD), but it stills manages to be exciting.

Also, Up next video at the end of this one is "How to Never Lose at Tic-Tac-Toe." lol.

  • "I wanna play a game"

    "Shall we play a game?"

If i hear those 2 sentence I'm dead.

  • @BigBForBoss Nice one lol

  • @Jigsaw082 Hi Jigsaw.

  • @BigBForBoss Hi; honeslty I'd be scared to death of those two sentences

  • @Jigsaw082 Why would you scared to death by a sentence you always say to your victim?LOL

  • A Generation X classic. Probably the only hacker style movie with some credibility.

  • X Box should make a video game called Global Thermonuclear War.

  • Game Over

  • oh lawl'd it's a video movie RootBrian

only in the movies he can get a girlfriend and hacks

  • This is like Wall-E meets SkyNet!

  • Matthew Broderick was hot.

  • 1:54

  • best movie :D

had to watch it for school lol

  • It's weird how he could have hacked into the military computers, cause the home computers sucked so much, that there memory could not make it to open a Word file whit out the memory getting full, and the file only half done.

  • @arnarogbjorn there whas a swedish guy that hacked into nasa about that time and he whas as old as this guy

  • @TheWarlacozte That is because he wasn't on a home computer.

  • War is not a game . The REAL war has already begun !! This is how it's going to pan out ...When the Isreali - American alliance attack Iran , Iran will retaliate with nuclear weapons . There will be a cease-fire . Marshal law will be enforced throughout the Western world ! This has all been pre-arranged & is all part of a plan to reduce the human race to a population of 500.000.000 .The powers behind this are called The illuminati . Peace & love. we are all brothers , one family , one mind, alvb

  • que tal uma partida de xadrez ?

  • one word. gameshark.

  • Did you know this was a long time ago and at the end of the movie, the game wasn't even real

  • They made a big deal out of nothing...all they had to do was disconnect the computer from the network...duuhhh!!!

  • @Trevn8r

that would be a really boring movie

  • hacking was not hard back then cos thare was no firewalls

  • @vaper192 there were firewalls but he just got a password

  • Huskies win the final four means Seattle wins.. the state of Washington has found amazing grace in the Seattle Bay area..Wanna play with Elijah's boss - Jesus- in 2011??

  • @SuperDancer20 he's old now

  • ah back when being a geek wasn't cool (isnt it now?)

  • shall we play ?

  • this was before matt began to suck

  • DEFCON is a strategy game based on this movie. awesome pc game. too epic.

  • I have never really taken the time to research the supposed method David uses when he unscrews the payphone handset and uses the aluminum piece or whatever to place a free call.......... In my day, a redbox worked just fine. =0

  • @GTvlogOFFICIAL I remember doing this when I was younger and it actually worked. When you unscrewed the receiver cover and removed the speaker inside, it exposed two screws on the back. Touching these screws to any metal would cause a short circuit. I believe that the short circuit created an electrical "click" that tricked the phone's coin sensor into thinking that you had deposited a coin.

  • @ferlymoney Yikes, you must be more l33t than me and my friends. Well............. unlikely. =o haha ...... So you were in the crowd fighting Ma Bell in tha day? Props.... I assume and hope you are familiar with the Mohave Phonebooth? Some vids on this site about it. Good times. Peace 2 U.

  • @GTvlogOFFICIAL Hah, I don't know if I was more leet, but I do remember speaking to sysops with my 2400 baud modem plugged into my C64. The Movave is certainly familiar. Those were the days.

  • I just lost...

  • epicness

  • Fuck mathew broadwrick. never liked him. shitty actor.

  • @veeseee128 have you ever watched Ferris Bueller's day off.?

  • defcon pretty much stole the film's game... but still is fun and hard nonetheless

  • @mevidek Defcon was made because of this film. They wanted to let people actually play global thermonuclear war, so they made it. ;D

    I preferred Uplink, though.

  • never trust a computer you can't trow out of a window

  • "22 typhoon class submarines departing Petropavlosvk"

...the Soviet Union only made 6 if Im not mistaken.
