I love how he actually keeps all of his pedals on stage and have a some what simple set up, compared to a lot of other guitarists who have twice as many effects and such. Also love that he actually controls all of his effects on his own from the stage, never liked it when musicians shelf there pedals in a box backstage and have the tech work the pedals, don't know just seems a little bit like cheating to me.
Why can't there be any noise? can someone answer this, it seems to be the case anytime a guitar tech tries to show someone the rig, they always say they can't make noise? is there something in the contract that says no noise from the instruments before the show or something?
@ebayisajoke most likely its sound techs or lighting techs, either trying to tune and/or get the PA sorted out, or just generally communicate over a 2 way.. lighting people when focusing lights & riggers also comunicate alot with 2 ways during set up. Soundcheck is noisemaking time for backline gear and generally happens after the set up is complete.
@ebayisajoke It can be a variety of things. Some union based venues enforce a no-noise period, usually around a meal break. Other times it could be because the artists are doing interviews off stage. In the case of the venue I work at (where CF did a show on the club tour) we have a space on the second floor that is often used for corporate day time events. We occasionally ask the band to respect a short period of silence while they do speeches and such.
I so love how Joe and his crew do not mind showing the people/the fans how he sets up his guitars. this is the only one that you can hear each effect by its self mainly im talking about the delay pedals was having a hard time hearing the difference between to two pedals . thank you
i would love to learn about the dry amp how loud is it compared to the amp with effects or does the levels change depending on the tone? i sit in my music room all day turning nobs trying to get this sound
@a1works00 I saw another video in which Satch says he mainly uses the amp's distortion and only uses his sig' distortion pedal when he feels like it. I can't help but think he just put it on the board so it looks like he actually uses it.
in 5:15 & 5:19 there were a pop noise when mike turn on & off the big bad wah pedal...how come that noise is tolerated to the famous Joe Satriani sound??????
@openthedoar they had to be silent because people might think that the show has started and fans might come rushing in. Of course, they have protocols to avoid that.
What a gracious guy. No pretence, no showing off. Nothing bugs me more than music store guys who have to practise at 180bpm to 'try out' gear. Really.
onya Joe - old school, no fx rack, no amp channel-switching
dunno bout the amps, but I'd have that pedal setup. Perfect - two delays, flange, phase, two overdrives. I can take or leave a wah, but the rest is good to go... ;-)
today I went to a tiny music store in Birmingham alabama, and lo and behold, they someone had one of those JSX's. I didnt believe it when they said it was owned by satriani. if you dont believe me, Ill send a pic of it to you. it was on sale for about 600
why are those people trippin off of no noise when this guys joes tech guy who are those people to yell no noise tell them there mouth is louder than joes tech guy ahahahaha cool vid i like it
@wrona003 Maybe next time you should say that it's your personal opinion instead of making it sound like the amps suck. Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean that they suck.
@BullShnit Peavey sells plenty of junk IMO. I find it weird that he's using the JSX just for clean, there are better clean amps out there. Joe uses modded Marshall JVMs instead of the JSX on his solo live rig.
"No noise buddy". ? "FUCK YOU!!!" too who ever said that. Do they fucking know who they were talking too? jesus, I would have told that fuck to fuck off or we aren't playing your fucking pisshole. fuck they can come play in my town any day and never get that kind of treatment. Satriani for ever. Peace ,and END the drug WAR!! NOW.
@420captain Yeah, I thought the same thing. If he's been Satch's tech for 20+ years, he should be able to test the amp whenever he wants. It wasn't like he had it cranked and was blowing out power chords or feedback. I'd tell the person to fuck off, unless it was Satch himself telling me to keep it quiet. And yes, end the damn drug war.
@Emceetem I don't think Joe would hire somebody to be his guitar tech who he didn't trust and respect, and who wasn't his friend. When/if I'm a touring musician, if I can't find somebody who is a friend of mine who I trust enough to handle my shit, I'll just do it all myself.
Wow, you can buy everything on that board at a guitar store. Imagine that, no overpriced, overhyped, wait-list boutique pedals. What does that tell you?
Yeah that was kinda messed up @4:39 when the guy was like "Hey! Turn it down! NO NOISE PLEASE!!" Its interesting how one man's joy is another man's noise but there ya go. I guess they got tight sound level regs only approved for certain times like sound check and the actual show...

Anyone else jelous or get tired of other "Youtarists" who have $10,000+ setup or atleast brag about it?....I think I'll just stick to my Fender Champ XD ...thats about my price range.
@ericclapton00 kinda well i put wah wah first then my big muff distortion then my cs-3 dont have much pedals see well anyway it dose cause the last pedal you can only slightly hear the effect but if its first then thats the one you'll hear the most
@ericclapton00 You gotta experiment, see what works for you, especially if you wanna make wacky noises, but generally accepted wisdom is gain effects (ie overdrive, compression) first, then modulation (chorus etc), then time-based (ie delay, reverb) last. For example, if you put your delay BEFORE your overdrives, the delay just ends up sounding like a mushy mess...
@ericclapton00 No, no, no - you're not stupid! but it really does matter. Different order of pedals will have a HUGE difference on your sound. on youtube search for the vid:

If I would ever hit it big, I would press the issue that my rig is simple and it dosent have all the fancy ratamaran. I think Satch could of did a better demo.
@BigR6ch Satch's rig is simple compared to most guitarists. There are lots of cool effects out there. No reason to not use them, unless that's what you want to be known for, at any given time he could play a clean channel, or just overdrive if he wanted.
@nbdavis47 hey, give the interviewer a chance. you would be a little too flustered to speak well if you were looking at THE GUITARS that JOE SATRIANI uses!
I would guess that it's one of the prototype Ice 9 Overdrive pedals from Vox. It looks like one of Joe's vox pedals and the Ice 9 wasn't out when this video was shot. I know he was testing them out on the Chickenfoot tour too. So I think it's pretty safe to say that that's what this pedal is, but I can't 100% guarantee.
I think the Ice 9 Overdrive is out now too if you wanted to check it out.
I just converted my rig to racks. Running it all with a ground control pro. It will change your life. Set up and Break down is about 5 minutes, and there's no pedal dancing. It doesn't matter what sound you want, hit one preset switch and you got it.

@BigR6ch Satch's rig is simple compared to most guitarists. There are lots of cool effects out there. No reason to not use them, unless that's what you want to be known for, at any given time he could play a clean channel, or just overdrive if he wanted.

Tech-"This is his new Chickenfoot guitar - Chickenfoot logo..."
Camera guy-"And, uhh... I see it has the Chickenfoot logo... of course... ummm..."
He just said that...
Tech-"This is his main guitar right now."
Camera guy-"And, so, this would be his number 1 guitar on stage... right..."
Also just said that too... Dumbass

@nbdavis47 hey, give the interviewer a chance. you would be a little too flustered to speak well if you were looking at THE GUITARS that JOE SATRIANI uses!

the technician of joe in 3:10 he take away a WHITE PEDAL and he said "this is nothing" ...what pedal is this??????
ANTHIMOSmanti 1 year ago
I would guess that it's one of the prototype Ice 9 Overdrive pedals from Vox. It looks like one of Joe's vox pedals and the Ice 9 wasn't out when this video was shot. I know he was testing them out on the Chickenfoot tour too. So I think it's pretty safe to say that that's what this pedal is, but I can't 100% guarantee.
I think the Ice 9 Overdrive is out now too if you wanted to check it out.

wat do they mean buy dry/wet amps?
racingandmusicmylife 1 year ago
@racingandmusicmylife
Dry/wet usually refers to reverb/non-reverb, but the term could also be used for delay.

What a cluster fuck of pedals. Put that shit in a rack on switches and control it all with midi presets.
thacrackfox 1 year ago
@thacrackfox Couldnt agree more haha.. Im saving up for a rack now :)
gibsongod15 1 year ago
@gibsongod15
I just converted my rig to racks. Running it all with a ground control pro. It will change your life. Set up and Break down is about 5 minutes, and there's no pedal dancing. It doesn't matter what sound you want, hit one preset switch and you got it.
thacrackfox 1 year ago
@thacrackfox Yes i cant wait.... unfortunately, a new mac for recording is my priority right now, and then my rack is next for sure! :)
