It looks like some folks might want to look up what the new wave genre encompasses. At its root, new wave was a description of music that had elements of punk but with more pop accessibility; i.e. more polished production and experimentation. There are definitely Nirvana songs that fit that description, while others are definitely more rooted in punk. Either way, Nirvana PWNED the early 90's!!!

Been a Nirvana fan since I was a kid. In my opinion Kurt could really sing, in that I really feel something when he sings. Some people say that he couldn't sing at all because of his roughness. What do you think?

they're probably talking about his vocal range. Someone like Thom Yorke would be a good example of someone with a fantastic vocal range, from high to low. Kurt was a very good singer in his own way. He has a rough, gravely singing voice, but he utilized it as well as humanely possible, and fucked up his vocal chords big time from the screaming

@kasraman, Hate to correct you. But objectively speaking, Thom Yorke has MUCH better range than Kurt Cobain did. Kurt screamed his high notes, not that that's bad, that was his vocal style, and it worked. But Yorke's natural range is from E2 to C5, that's a couple notes short of being a full male vocal range, going from bass to countertenor. And with his falsetto, it is full range. So yes, Thom Yorke does in fact have a fantabulous vocal range or whatever.
