True, animal testing has helped some, but seriously...animals and humans are not the same. Scientists have been curing cancer in mice for years, but it hasn't lead anywhere with humans. We don't metabolize drugs the same way animals do, and a lot of the stuff that is tested to be fatal to animals is still used on humans.

As they state in the vidoe, the genetic makeup of an animal differs radically from a human therefore the results and reactions are far from valid, which beckons the question why? If you are talking about basic research, animal actually makes really good models. For example, research in fruit flies give us the understanding of master regulator and Hox genes, research in worms and mouse give us understanding of PcG and Trithorax in epigenetic regulation + many other more biological pathways

They show no respect, if this is vital research which you appear to be claiming then why not perform it in a dignified manner. there are different ways that do not involve such extreme cruelty. u should check out PETA vidoes. i work in cardiology where pig valves are regularly used to save peoples lives. the testing for that would have been extreme! its saving lives.

And another factor is funding. You may say "why not give the animal a bigger cage?" Well, the answer is simply lack of funding. But regarding the area of basic research, you gotta admit studying animals have proven to be useful in advancing our knowledge in biology, as well as applications to human medicine. Much of our understanding of immune system is actually first learned in animals (ex. toll-like receptor), and then later we use what we know from animals to zoom in on human system.
@lainee206 Many activists claim computer model and in vitro can replace animal modeling. This is not true. In vitro is done on a tissue layer, and obviously an organ is composed of multiple types of tissues in a coordinated fashion that cannot be portrayed accurately in a culture. And computational model, as of current standard, is not good enough to replace animal modeling. I know this because I specialize in bioinformatics, the field that integrates computer algorithm with biological data.

2. The most experiments with mammals are with mices are rats and lesser with apes, cats or dogs.

Well that's because of my limited space and the anger I have for the idiots who don't think about things, Allow me to restate. These videos are old, all of the animal testing videos are old quality. We've gotten to a point where covert cameras the size of a button have better quality than large camcorders that existed 10-15 years ago. I recognize the quality; It's Hi-8 video quality. Hi-8 tapes are discontinued. Why is there no better quality videos?
They don't exist. Why? Because this kind of testing doesn't exist anymore. If it DOES happen, it happens in some deranged guys basement. Some may add, "what if Hi-8 cameras are all they have?" I've seen every Animal cruelty video, they're all recycled; there are no new ones. PLUS, someone would need to convert Hi-8 to digital which means they would have to pass it through a box, or transfer it to DV and upload it on to professional programs.

There are new ways for testing things where an animal will not get hurt. In DEFENSE to animal testing, this occurs with humans too, how would they test medicine? Scientists HAVE to test medicines. What better way to do it than to already sick animals? Or enraged animals not safe for society?
Nobody thinks of these things, they just see what other people WANT you to see. "oh my god a cute animal being tested on!!!" no one stops too think that maybe that animal has a fatal disease and the tests they're running will save hundreds of thousands of other animals.

True, animal testing has helped some, but seriously...animals and humans are not the same. Scientists have been curing cancer in mice for years, but it hasn't lead anywhere with humans. We don't metabolize drugs the same way animals do, and a lot of the stuff that is tested to be fatal to animals is still used on humans.

As they state in the vidoe, the genetic makeup of an animal differs radically from a human therefore the results and reactions are far from valid, which beckons the question why? If you are talking about basic research, animal actually makes really good models. For example, research in fruit flies give us the understanding of master regulator and Hox genes, research in worms and mouse give us understanding of PcG and Trithorax in epigenetic regulation + many other more biological pathways

They show no respect, if this is vital research which you appear to be claiming then why not perform it in a dignified manner. there are different ways that do not involve such extreme cruelty. u should check out PETA vidoes. i work in cardiology where pig valves are regularly used to save peoples lives. the testing for that would have been extreme! its saving lives.

@lainee206 While i admit certain labs probably treat animals cruelly, generally labs do follow established protocols that are designed to minimize pain and suffering of laboratory animals. And another factor is funding. You may say "why not give the animal a bigger cage?" Well, the answer is simply lack of funding. If you truly want to support research and help animals at the same time, provide science more funding is actually the answer. Many science technicians get paid less than bus drivers!

But regarding the area of basic research, you gotta admit studying animals have proven to be useful in advancing our knowledge in biology, as well as applications to human medicine. Much of our understanding of immune system is actually first learned in animals (ex. toll-like receptor), and then later we use what we know from animals to zoom in on human system.

In vitro is done on a tissue layer, and obviously an organ is composed of multiple types of tissues in a coordinated fashion that cannot be portrayed accurately in a culture. And computational model, as of current standard, is not good enough to replace animal modeling. I know this because I specialize in bioinformatics, the field that integrates computer algorithm with biological data.

2. The most experiments with mammals are with mices are rats and lesser with apes, cats or dogs.

When I see an animal die from animal testing I am happy. Because that means they are in heaven with their friends, and nothing bad can happen to them anymore! Goodness, how can any living being do something like this to an animal without being sick?! I don't understand it .. Screw the people who say 'but we need medicines, we need another hairspray, we need this and that.' It's extremely selfish! I'd rather die at age 50, then have a thousand animals suffer for the sake of me!

There was a story I found about how they cut open a monkeys head while it was still conscience and inplanted some sort or device. All they found out, was that monkeys could tell colours apart. Was that worth it? Was it worth putting a creature close to us through complete unberable agony just find out it could tell colours apart? I doubt it. I truly doubt it. Take a look at your calendars, we're at the end of the first decade of the Millennium WE HAVE WAYS TO TEST THINGS!! This, in fact, takes most of the animal testing away. Well that's because of my limited space and the anger I have for the idiots who don't think about things, Allow me to restate. These videos are old, all of the animal testing videos are old quality. We've gotten to a point where covert cameras the size of a button have better quality than large camcorders that existed 10-15 years ago. I recognize the quality; It's Hi-8 video quality. Hi-8 tapes are discontinued. Why is there no better quality videos?

They don't exist. Why? Because this kind of testing doesn't exist anymore. If it DOES happen, it happens in some deranged guys basement. Some may add, "what if Hi-8 cameras are all they have?" I've seen every Animal cruelty video, they're all recycled; there are no new ones. PLUS, someone would need to convert Hi-8 to digital which means they would have to pass it through a box, or transfer it to DV and upload it on to professional programs.

There are new ways for testing things where an animal will not get hurt. In DEFENSE to animal testing, this occurs with humans too, how would they test medicine? Scientists HAVE to test medicines. sorry, but that is bullshit, no offense but you should reasearch more, and they can make fake stuff to test on now(as in stuff that is more accurate to humans but does not feel pain and isnt alive, but they still hurt animals. why would they be trying to find out how (lets does say) a dog died and they want to save plenty more, why would putting them through constant smoke inhalation help ?
