@FirstDragonSlayer Nvidia, as a whole, is not faster than AMD. The fact that the 590 wins is not a fair story because the 590 uses 2 580s on one PCB whereas the 6990 uses dual 6970s and the 6970 is of course slower than the 580 (which is why the price of the 6970 is considerably lower). Nvidia may be the cream of the crop at the top high-end of the market but AMD does have a thing going for it in the Enthusiast segment (6950 vs 560 ti anyone?). Intel is indeed superior to AMD in processors.
did any of you actually listen to the video. He noted sound only because ITS THE ONLY DECIDING FACTOR that differentiates the two cards. In other words, they both performed almost exactly alike. I am not biased towards any card, nor am I saying his choice was right or wrong. But I can tell you, I wouldnt spend $700 on something thats as loud as a lawn mower. For that money, I'd expect better than that.

I dont think people realize just how loud graphic cards can get. Especially those aftermarket cards with 3-4 fans on them blowing at 100%. Doesnt matter how loud you turn up your stereo. You'll still hear it.

Shame this came out before driver optimizations. Now the 6990 breaks the 590 on all the above tests. That said, I have a hard time trusting motherboardsorg's testbed when other test sites do have them both scoring higher in nearly all of these tests even when this video came out.

I can't find any benchmarks for rendering, and other more intensive tasks when using the AMD cards. I'm guessing it's because Nvidia have CUDA acceleration, It's a shame that AMD doesn't incorporate some of the tech in their firepro series into the radeons.

Not a fan boy of any computer part, as long as it works I just built my first computer with the 590 and it is great can't head it what so ever, I play BF3 at max settings with a max FPS allowance of 70 and I rarely if even get lag spikes so if I had to choose id go with the 590 and i've heard good things about the 6990 but it's just to load and that's not a winner in my book :P
at the moment, the 6990 beats the 590 hands down. but rmbr guys, nvidia have yet to release their next set of gpus to take on the hd6xxx series, so don't fight! for now, AMD should celebrate because they have a wonderful card.

always test fsx last why it needs all the CPU and v-cards and not need to over clock see if i right turn fsx on max and see your fps then you true colors will show why fsx needs the world best card and CPU bottom line.

@EGWorldOnline i think the difference between the 590 and 6990 comes down to which card takes advantage of more of the games you play. as far as utilizing the architecture of the cards. they are basically the same card besides the 6990 with .5 GB more per gpu. i went from a 9800gt to a 590. huge upgrade. it was cheaper buying one 590 than 2 580 gtx. by 200-300 per not including the water blocks and up to 20% less power on some games. ATI/AMD i just have had too many friends having driver issues.
@marinmarinhola EVGAs one has a better Backplate, and it s a litte bit overclocked (EVGA 630Mhz; IMO Asus 608Mhz). I think the Backplate is worth the 50€, the EVGA also looks nicer :P

Go to Hwcomparison(dot)com and click the drop down menu and select both cards from each and see for your self that the ATI 6990 came on top.

@HeadShootingMaster You're just saying that to compensate for the regret you have in not buying a GTX. This isn't a fucking car, it's a computer, that's most likely sitting very close to you, so quieter IS better, especially if you're playing a game or listening to music.

Thats average fps not max. GTX 590 is faster by a tad and has nicer features (phys-x for example).

@MrPandawesome Its not that its poorly optimized but that its poorly utilized. Play "Cryostasis" this shows off some pretty amazing physx when patched with the physx patch.

always test fsx last why it needs all the CPU and v-cards and not need to over clock see if i right turn fsx on max and see your fps then you true colors will show why fsx needs the world best card and CPU bottom line.

@EGWorldOnline agree for the most part. i got a water cooled 590. love it no complaints. ATI/AMD were great bang for buck till the 6990 (DRIVER FAILS) for some of those cards is why i still am a Nvidia buyer. HD7000 ... wonder how those drivers will work

@EGWorldOnline i think the difference between the 590 and 6990 comes down to which card takes advantage of more of the games you play. as far as utilizing the architecture of the cards. they are basically the same card besides the 6990 with .5 GB more per gpu. i went from a 9800gt to a 590. huge upgrade. it was cheaper buying one 590 than 2 580 gtx. by 200-300 per not including the water blocks and up to 20% less power on some games. ATI/AMD i just have had too many friends having driver issues.

@marinmarinhola EVGAs one has a better Backplate, and it s a litte bit overclocked (EVGA 630Mhz; IMO Asus 608Mhz). I think the Backplate is worth the 50€, the EVGA also looks nicer :P

You know, I own a Nvidia card and never had a ATI card, and you think I don't, well, guess what, just because I own a Nvidia card doesn't mean I have to say Nvidia is the best, and I even say a benchmark of a un OCed version of the card and overall, the ATI 6990 came in front. Go to Hwcomparison(dot)com and click the drop down menu and select both cards from each and see for your self that the ATI 6990 came on top.

AMD6990: 4GB:2=2GB per GPU
If you re playing on high resolutions, 6990 would be the better card. But i love my eVGA GTX 590 :P
