  • i got a dual 2.3 with 7 gigs ram...only thing I do that taxes it is video editing

  • and which system is best for video and movie editing???

  • what kind of monitor do you have to hook up to this mac?

  • @muzikbiz001 any monitor with dvi.

  • Risc is good (from hacker's) :D

  • the power processors are amazing, and it doens google earth smoother than my x1900xt in my 8 core mac pro.

  • ooomg im about to buy one. is it really THAT fucking loud????????

  • hi, i have an powermac g5 that keeps freezing at either the apple logo spinning gear screen, or the booting mac loading bar screen. then the fans turn into a tornado. what should i do? i reseated the ram, wiped the ram, and even tried a different hdd. please help! thanks!

  • @GOPACKERSJT reset smc, boot to disk run disk utility and verify permissions, make sure you don't have the shift key stuck down

  • lol, my computer (PC) as manufactured in 2005 and it has a bigger processor than yers! (mine is 3.8, urs is 3.6!)

  • @stydel311 clock speed means nothing...microarchitecture means something

  • @stydel311 I know this may sound confusing but that G5 Mac is about 4 times faster than your PC.

  • @aflockofmusic2 how would you know? he could have a 3.8ghz quad core with 16gb of ram and a nVidia 6800gt

  • @deertzTV he has a intel pentium 4, if you don't know anything, keep your fucking mouth shut, you fucking moron.... Fuck you.

  • @aflockofmusic2 haha dude go take some midol please.

  • @deertzTV sorry I didn't mean to snap like that, but I read your comment after I experienced a very misfortunate event. I'm not a bad guy and I'm very sorry. Also there's nothing special in midol. Mostly what is in tylenol with a little caffeine, and a mild decongestant.

  • @aflockofmusic2 its cool man.

  • @stydel311 RISC is a lot more efficient than CISC, so read up before you comment. It's why the IBM power7 will run a lot faster than higher clocked xeons.

  • These machines are truly amazing. I purchased a dual processor 2.5Ghz PowerPC on Craigslist for $200. It's in excellent condition. Only problem was that I opened the case and unplugged the cable from behind the power switch and plugged it back in and it fired right up! It's been running like a champ since. I removed the SATA hard drive and installed a 250GB Hitachi PATA drive with a very long ATA133 cable that came out of a U1 server. This machine rocks!

  • how do you get that cpu meter for mac?

  • How well does it run winblows? Is it fast enough to play - say - Half-Life?

  • First off, it's a PowerPC model, so it can't run Windows. Secondly, it's not supposed to play games, it's a mac. It's made for productivity in the art's. ;)

  • PowerPC can run windows under emulation

  • i have a late 2005 model 2.3 dual core model & it can run 16gig of ram. fact..

    8 slots using 8 of 2gb sticks :)

  • How is your dual 2.3 model running ? Im interested in getting one...

  • The 2.3 dual cores are brilliant for things like CS2 or Final Cut Pro 5, But i find they lack in the web browsing, we constantly have java or flash errors when streaming the radio and using google maps.. It really depends on how much you are going to pay and what would you use it for.

  • Oh haha then idk if it ls for me since well since a lot of my web browsing involves flash player cough cough YouTube lol

  • Hi, I also had a G5 Quad. It was a great machine, despite it being a liquid cooled unit, it appears Apple fixed the coolant problems in the newer G5 Quads. Because of it, I now have a 2008 mac pro. I will always be in debted to the G5 Quad. When I 1st got it, it only had 2GB of memory.. by the end of June 2009, it had 16GB of memory + extras and it was hard for me to let it go, but I had to move forward.

  • Loving my dual 1.8 Powermac G5 its amazing

  • saw a dual processor dual core 2.7 GHZ g5 powermac with 6GB and 500 Gb HD for $1400, is it a good buy?

  • And I saw a Mac Pro with display for about $1800

  • i'm thinking about getting a 2.7Ghz Liquid cooled model, for College, i know it will be no where near as fast as a Mac Pro, but i am only gonna be running final cut studio 2 i'll give it 8GB ram should run brilliantly

  • let us all know how it turns out :)

  • Hi!

I have a question for you regarding your graphic card!

My Power Mac G5 is a Dual 2,3 GHz /w 2,5 GB RAM and 250GB HDD.

It's using an ATi Radeon 9600 AGP with 128 MB VRAM.

Your graphics seem MUCH, much faster than mine.

May it be other stuff like the HDD or something, that's much weaker in mine or is it just the graphic card that I need to change for best performance?

    I appreciate a reply :)

  • you might want to get a better card. I was looking at a PowerMac g4 MDD and it had a 9600 card in it. You probably want a 9800 Pro 256 mb or a geforce 7800

  • @KingofComputing X800 is available for it too...the g4 i mean

  • i love my g5! don't plan on using anything else for years to come. dual core 2.0ghz with 9.5gb ram

  • How much disk space? MIne was only a 1.66 ghz and 75 GB so I upgraded to a 24-inch iMac. Its soooo fast!

  • how do you have 9.5 gb of ram, when the max is 8 gb?

  • The max on the last PowerMac G5 systems was 16 GB.

  • Yes, 16 GB of ram was the max for the quad core G5. But the max ram on a dual core G5 is 8 GB, I know I own a dual core 2.7 GHz G5 with 8 GB of ram.

  • Ah ic,well maybe the "Apple" max is 8GB where in reality it can actually hold 9.5GB, great example, the Powermac 6100 Apple said it would only hold a max of 64 MB with 8MB on the board totaling 70 MB,where you can expand it to 512 MB with 8 MB on the board totaling 520 MB. So it depends on the RAM technology and the board.

  • How fast does it run windows XP, what emulation prog are you using for XP?

  • I'm using Virtual PC 7. Check out my website which has more info on it, including benchmarks.

  • @PwrMacBlog

    The website is down D:

  • @PwrMacBlog WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR AWESOME SITE??

  • Like th video thx!

what graphic card are you using?

  • its an nVidia 6800 GT

  • thats really bad. i had that years ago.

  • Yeah but the G5 is an old but great computer. I have a great MacBook Pro but I still would like a PowerMac G5.
