Eclectus Parrots are relatively slow-flying rainforest birds, they aren't comfortable "flying" at such high speeds. Birds do have comfort zones in flight speed, not every bird dives like a falcon, larger parrots (like the Eclectus) just make short dives from higher perches to build up speed, there is no "free-diving as an advancement of natural abilities".

@cactus200 it's more likely the bird can't fly away. most birds kept in captivity never learn to fly and have their wings clipped--not only to keep them from flying, but to prevent them from injuring themselves from attempting to when having never learned.

@dfhohj Nope, no bird but the Peregrine Falcon flies at that 200mph (even then it only acheives it in a Powerdive). And pigeons are among the fastest birds (117kph, why do you think the militaries of old used them as message carriers?). Eclectus Parrots average 20kph, so this is an act of disregard for the bird's safety and an act of animal cruelty.

I think this helped this birds cognitive abilitys, i would like to mention that studys show mice with complex maze tubes were far more advanced in task then those with simple running wheels, so in theory this bird will be smart for the fact it traveled, in velocity, faster then it was evolved to. that experience can only be positive for that bird, duh..

Parrots are smart, but this intelligence varies among families and species, you can't prove they fully understand our actions (birds don't think like humans, they think like birds). Also, a bird wouldn't enjoy flying outside its speed range, to a bird, this is a danger. Even to a parrot. This Eclectus parrot wouldn't know that its owner meant to "fly" it at 100kph, and no one knows if it would see this as fun. Either way, it's dangerous for the animal.

@dfhohj Animal cruelty doesn't necassarily mean the animal knows its owners are mean and cruel, but it does mean the animal is being mistreated, whether it knows it or not. Even if the bird associates being driven down the highway with flying, it doesn't mean it feels safe or content with what is happening. All I'm trying to say is that just because a bird can fly doesn't mean it is comfortable with all speeds of flying, and that this is an act of disregard for the animal's safety.

@dfhohj A scared bird does not always to panic, birds stay still when they are scared in some cases. Besides, the bird has no choice, a bird can't move effectively while it's holding onto an object moving at a high speed, and the bird's wings are clipped.

@dfhohj Just because a bird is meant to fly and can understand aerodynamics does not mean there is no risk associated with this activity. Eclectus Parrots are relatively slow-flying rainforest birds, they aren't comfortable "flying" at such high speeds. Birds do have comfort zones in flight speed, not every bird dives like a falcon, larger parrots (like the Eclectus) just make short dives from higher perches to build up speed, there is no "free-diving as an advancement of natural abilities".

This parrot is originally named Angus by a woman. He decided to fly around and unfortunately met this guy in his travels. The woman hopes to have her parrot returned to her, but it was obviously taking longer than expected. This parrot is NOT this dude's bird.
This bird shows no signs of enjoyment.
Why shouldn't we complain? We value life, big or small, important or unimportant. If it was a family of yours, would you care? No? Not surprised.
