This is Carl Perkins one of the finest originators of 50's Rockabilly music, not some second rate imitator... Let's get this straight, the Beatles are a 60's boy band who sang bad versions of everybody else's songs.
@MrDeejay45 But The Beatles only covered songs on the BBC album, bits of Rubber Soul and a few on Please Please Me. Their actual song writing was miles above Carl Perkins, as much as I love him. magine Carl writing an epic like Strawberry Fields- madness!
In an unisued version of this song from this session Jerrys playing is more clearly heard. That's also why he(Jerry) is on the Million Dollar Quartet session, because he was playing on Carls recordings that day. The sessison was in fact for "Matchbox", so in fact later after this was recorded Elvis dropped by.
Jerry Lee Lewis recorded a version for his Sun album released circa 1958. Lewis played piano on the original Carl Perkins version. The Beatles performed the song on the BBC and released it as a 45 in 1964, reaching no. 17 in the U.S. Carl Perkins wrote the music. The song uses an old line from a blues song that goes back before Blind Lemon Jefferson or Ma Rainey. The rest of the lyrics are by Carl Perkins and the music is 100% by Carl Perkins. Ronnie Hawkins and Bob Dylan also recorded it.
I was listening to Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan's "In Session"...decided to research this song...low & behold, it's Carl Perkins...Love it...thanks for posting!
Yes, records are so much fun too play! It's also just as much fun to find records at garage sales and thrift stores. I would recomend a crosley. They have great sound quality, readily available low price parts that are (for the most part) interchangable, great prices on players, and nice old-style styling.
@airplaneguy53 And as you probably know Paul McCartney did a duet with Carl Perkins on Paul's "Tug of War" album, the song being "Get It". Great album. Wikipedia has an article on that album by the way, the article entitled "Tug of War (Paul McCartney album)".
Yeah. The Killer was a session pianist for Sun until his career took off. He is also on Billy Lee Riley's Red Hot, which would have become a hit if Great Balls Of Fire had not been released. Rock on. King Killer!
shit!! where did i hear this from or which others do the covers ??

@airplaneguy53 Actually I like the way the Beatles did it with Ringo singing, but this is better. Carl should be better known today.
