  • Very moving at the end.........

  • My gosh! Fonteyn certainly had very substantial legs. I wonder how the guy could pick her up at 3:59

  • My gosh! Font

  • I'm speechless, this is beautiful.

  • does anyone know the name of the song that plays from the beginning to 01:42???

  • @Niggaloko That's just called 'Dance of de Cygnets' or 'Dance of the little Swans'.

  • @MagicalGirl379 THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!! :D

  • Aren't we lucky to live in a World where everyone can dance? How wonderful it is to see it all on you-tube. The old and the new the east and the west.. are you picking on my lack of capitals or agreeing with me? Her Salut D'amour was a wonderful thing. How lovely to have that piece and how gracefully she danced it.

  • No mueve los brazos... lastima.

  • I love Margot Foteyn. I love Swan Lake abut act 2 is the best for me.

  • I love this play but I've seen it done by Bolshoi and it wasn't this fast but it was still amazing. That's just my opinion don't take it the wrong way.I just like the other past.

  • @IndiaHicks1 Question. When did you see the Bolshoi? Who danced?

  • Srust me you'll think this is a fine life!! But a lot of pain and effort went into those girls!! I know cause I am advanced ballerina and teacher.

  • For those of us who appreciate the finer things in life.

  • Jesus, it IS art!

  • Great performance. It just shows you that not only the Soviets had great talent at that time.

  • Does anyone know if there is a cd with this music part in it. I just love the music and fonteyn also, but i tried to look in itunes and they have it slightly cut down, which i dont like, so if anyone knows where i can get this track i would be really grateful

  • Can anyone please tell me the names of the series of movements she's doing between 2'52 and 3'23?

This is my favorite moment in all of ballet.

Moira Shearer does an excerpt from this scene in The Red Shoes, but without the drama and beauty of Fonteyn or Plisetskaya.

Thanks so much for posting it.

  • I think it's a form of fouette. Done with a jump and landing in arabesque fondu in Giselle, Karsavina refers to it as fouette en l'air.

  • Thanks for your response. This excerpt from Swan Lake with Fonteyn is sublime.

  • She starts of doing fouettes going in the diagonal. When she hits center stage she does what are called entre chat quatre followed by passes to 5th back

One of my teachers is Henry Danton.....one of Margots partners actually

  • Thanks so much for the great analysis.

I think Henry Danton was in the original cast of Ashton's Symphonic Variations - with Margot Fonteyn, Michael Somes, Moira Shearer, Pamela May and Brian Shaw !

  • Yes he was. Ashton said that no other cast in the world would be able to do it better. Past present or future.

  • those movements are called fouettes

  • Thanks for your input. I though fouettes were the whipped spins (as in 32....). These are slower, more deliberate - just different. So there are different kinds of fouettes?

  • jkircher314, the 'whipped spins' you mention are properly called 'fouetté rond de jambe en tournant'.

  • I really appreciate all the responses I've gotten from this learned group. Many thanks.

  • it seems sped up xD gorgeous tho

  • Definitely not sped up; she was just very quick, with excellent control.

  • Beyond belief. So gorgeous.

  • Those entrechats where stunning

but what i love form Fonteyn is her personal reaction in every role

  • Adorei esse video.Sensacional!!!!!!
