I really love your tank. It must have taken a lot of time and money to get such a gorgeous result. Too many people have reef tanks with a couple bleached out pieces of rock and a couple tiny coral and it just looks so barren. Your reef tank looks ALIVE. One of the nicest I've seen.
@2424Anthony You can't really clean it as such, but as long as you turn it over regularly it should be fine. I started using a gravel vac and found that this was enough to keep it looking whiter. essentially your just moving the unexposed substrate to the surface, while moving the algae to the bottom where it dies off.
@2424Anthony i just found this vid, but anyways i just got a purple tang and had several types of algae on the sand, kept re growing and would constantly be there... purple tang... fucking destroyed all the bad algae in the tank. also bullet gobies can help with sand problems
i also have a 75 gallon sw tank. what is the ideal wave pump should i use. currently im using a seio 1100 wave pump -- just gave this to me by a friend of mine. not sure if it is a correct pump for 75g.
@moofdebowl I was wondering what type of lighting your using along with filtration...IT LOOKS AMAZING !! I have a 75 gallon that I am just starting up and I cant seem to get rid of the Diatoms and now ALL my rock is turning green. Any Ideas?
CunningStunt123 i'm new at coral and i know mushrooms don' tneed a lot of light but how much light for a 29 gallon do you think they need and for traceelements anythign?
I am inclined to say they will survive just about everything short of Being Eaten by a Predator. I have a few, some of which have migrated into Dark recesses, These ones lost there Zooxanthellae And don`t photo synthesize. Yet they Still persist regardless.
2 thumbs up for me, took me many goes to finnaly maintain elegance corals. yours look very happy! they are a tough coral to keep. congratulations! continue the good work pls post when more stocked!
yes i say it is a very beautiful tank bro,i see quite a few people comented on your choice of putting a sailfin tang in your tank.i have a purple tang in my 75 gal and i am now wondering if it was a bad choice, you can check my video if you like it is karlee's 75 gal reef and i just upgraded the video please tell me what you think.
Thankyou, I checked out your video, your tank is amazing. Well done! As for the tang, well I think you may have made the same "bad" choice as me. Enjoy it while it's small, then talk yourself into upgrading your tank if possibl!!
great tank bro... but i feel bad for the sailfin tang because they are big swimmers and they need a minimum of 130g to be in a perfect environment.. awsome tank though !!!
Agreed, except for the "perfect environment". I would still say their perfect environment is the ocean, but why split hairs lol! The sailfin was a bad choice for this tank, but I can't get it out of there. I've tried various traps and netting techniques to no avail. Perhaps it was just meant to be. Thanks for your comment.
Yes the sailfin is a mistake I'm afraid, it looks really out of place in there, the other fish look a bit scared of it too, just keep trying to catch it that's all. A flame hawkfish would look great in there, (really amusing fish) or a couple of sexy shrimp, nice and cheap too.
Stunning man! Wow! I love the reddish purple colours of your corals. By the way, how you manage your huge Elegance corals? Are they hard to keep? May i know wat you feed them with?
hey just wondering how much did this cost you? cuz i'm your tank is amazing and I"d love to have one one day. but the price seems to dwell into the 4k+ is that the case here?
I guess thats about right. Over 2 years though... not in one hit. I used to add it all up but soon discovered that this practice was not a great idea, especially when the wife sees how much it cost!!
hey just wondering how much did this cost you? cuz i'm your tank is amazing and I"d love to have one one day. but the price seems to dwell into the 4k+ is that the case here?
G'day, lights are on for 10hrs everyday. 10am to 8pm. I have them come on a bit later in the day, so when I get home they are still on for me to enjoy the tank. Cheers.
Is that a trick question?? he he he, there are three! One is a Brain common name is moonstone brain (bottom left). There is a Frogspawn (top right) and the one at the bottom is a mystery to me, but it's growing beautifully! Cheers.
this tank is simply phenomonal. the obvious popping of the contrast in colors certainly adds to the visual aspect but not so much (in my opinion) as the variety of specimens you have successfully housed. awesome job my friend.
he he he, thanks for your support. Everyone has their own opinion, though most people don't seem to understand that others often don't care what it is!
G'day, I don't have any pics of just the rock stage. but as a rule when I'm setting up a new tank, I pick a big piece of rock, put it to one side of the tank towards the back, then just try eack piece at a time to see which ones fit together in the most stable way. I couldn't say I've ever gone for a specific design, with the rock at least. I dont really have a lot of rock in this tank, just enough to place the corals where I wanted them. Good luck with your setup, post a vid!
that is a badass tank. don't get much better than that. everything is spread out nice, not too crowded. awesome aquascaping. this is all under compact fluorescents?
Thanks! Always nice to hear such positive feedback. Believe it or not the lighting are standard Fluoro's, this tanks been up for three years, and the corals seem to be well satisfied with what most would think is sub standard lighting.
Beautfiul reef, excellent color on your corals. Did you use red slime remover to get rid of the cyano? Im very weary of chemicals in any of my tanks, but it got out of control to the point where I tried it and it worked well. No harm to fish or invertebrates.
Hi there. I too am very conscious of using any sort of chemical remedy. I bought about 15 very small hermit crabs, after siphoning off all the cyano bacteria, I also do weekly water changes of 20L now. Together, these have all helped keep the substrate nice and clean!! The other practice I have adopted is to gravel vac the front of the tank, I never used to, but have found this also helps in keeping the gravel "turned over". thanks for stopping by.
Hmmm, I guess I must just be lucky!! I've never really tried to encourage coraline algae growth, but was surprised when it started. I really only add calcium, strontium, magnesium, and iodide, perhaps its a combo of these items that stimulates its growth. I only use a three bar fluro, so i doubt that lighting has anything to do with it. Thnks for checking out my vid.
Does that Manderin Dragonet have enough pods to eat with just the rock in your 75 or do you have to suppliment the tank with pods for him to eat? It seems that with your fish load and only a 75, he would starve to death.
Hi there. Believe it or not she's doing just great. Very plump and much larger than when I got her now. There's lots for her to pic at, as I really only have one fish that competes for food with it (a six line wrasse). I also target feed her brine and mysis shrimp every second day, which she gobbles up very quickly. Thanks for posting.
hey i know this has nothing to do with your tank but i was looking for some help. i have a 55 gallon reef tank and i had two anemones in it and they both died now my tank is really cloudy and my yellow tang is dieing. is this from the anemones? or something else?
Theres a good chance the necrotic flesh of the anemones is poluting the tank. I assume of course they have been removed, but how long were they in there before you realised they had died? Of course the main plan of action would be to get the tang out to a quarantinte tank if one is available, do a couple large water changes and let the tank settle down, the reintroduce the Tang. Good luck.
yeah one was in there for awhile cuz it really had no signs of being dead untill i moved it and it fell apart. i took the tang out and put him in another tank hes way better now. i lost a copperband butterfly and a plate coral. i did a water change. the tank is looking better
Their all store bought, its quite illegal to collect pretty much anything from Australian waters unless you have a specific permit (of course fishing is permitted, but regulated). Thanks for stopping by.
Thankyou so much. I checked out your page, love the goldfish pond. Sometimes even the most common fish can show you how special they are. I loved the Black fantail at the end. Very Cute!
