Are all believers guilty of horrible things like this? Obviously no, but they're part of a system that doesn't allow them to think freely and only fools believe what they're told as opposed to what they have seen and experienced. Personally, I'm Agnostic. I believe there's a lot of crap going on we don't know about, but it's not explainable by any religion. Religion is a creation of man and is just as flawed.
Atheists hate religion because we believe that all the negative things that have happened because of religion are a complete waste. The Dark Ages? Nearly a millennia wasted by our species because science and reason were punishable by death. Terrorism? Countless suicides and murders of innocent people because of religious differences. The Crusades? Don't even get me started on the bloodtrail behind Christianity and Catholicism.

fair enough, except religion is just a symptom... it's not the cause. there's racism, irrational thinking, logical fallacies, prejudice, you name it... for example people say Sweden or Czech republic are so smart and full of atheists, but you'd be surprised at how many these atheists are just ignorant agnostics, they believe in homeopathy, astrology, white supremacy, loony paranoid conspiracy theories, etc. Simply Christianity or Islam here is replaced with some other bullshit to fill the void.
To all you religious people who think religion is a good thing, I invite you to look up the crusades... Very specifically the FOURTH Crusade. And then I invite you to look up how LONG it took the CATHOLIC CHURCH to apologize to Istanbul (the city formerly known as Constantinople) for what happened during said Crusade (and you wonder why only the first three are taught to most kids) (hint Pope John Paul II did the apologizing).

I am with you, however I propose a solution; 1. Try to unbrainwash them using logic and proof, 2. If that doesn't work and it happens to be legal to kick their ass then kick their ass and warn them there will be more to come if they continue preaching their shit to other people. 3. If it is not legal to kick their ass (which is likely) then investigate them until you find something they are doing illegal and get them arrested.

When science DOES have an answer, that's when you have a theory. Science doesn't give facts. It looks at the facts and gets a theory from them that is meant to explain the facts - After rigorous testing and peer review of course. The scientific definition of theory is entirely different from the colloquial usage.
Here what you blind Athiests need to do .If you actuly take the time to read the bible and not some small vers maybe you would learn the truth more. But hey its up to you!! I agree with much of what you are saying and I am religious. I think the ultimate goal for any human being is to be able to retain with integrity your core belief system and strive to live peacefully with other people. The problem lies in the tendency of religion to promote intolerance. I think this is largely an interpretation error based on human flaws and arrogance, rather than an error in the religion itself.

Love is supposed to be some sort of extreme attraction which is special in its own way, but i just dont understand why that would exist and how it works. People constantly say they're in love, then get a divorce with their wife or husband or what have you soon after. I just dont get it.

Love itself is an emotion that does exist, just like happiness, depression or anger. Many people have never experienced depression, but that doesn't mean depression doesn't exist.

The existence of emotion is proven by the very fact that you can experience them. Emotions are simply chemical reactions inside your brain. However, saying you "feel" God therefore God must exist is silly, that would be like saying "I feel fairies, I have faith that fairies exist, therefore fairies must exist".

If you are very attached to someone and feel a lot of affection for that person, then of course it will feel bad when your relationship with that person ends. The reason we feel love is because it helps the species to survive. It's entirely evolutionary. "Love" makes people pair-bond. If a mother and father love each other, they "pair-bond", they stay together and both care for their child/children, a child is more likely to survive if it has both parents around to support it, protect it, and provide for it.

To all you religious people who think religion is a good thing, I invite you to look up the crusades... Very specifically the FOURTH Crusade. And then I invite you to look up how LONG it took the CATHOLIC CHURCH to apologize to Istanbul (the city formerly known as Constantinople) for what happened during said Crusade (and you wonder why only the first three are taught to most kids) (hint Pope John Paul II did the apologizing).

I am with you, however I propose a solution; 1. Try to unbrainwash them using logic and proof, 2. If that doesn't work and it happens to be legal to kick their ass then kick their ass and warn them there will be more to come if they continue preaching their shit to other people. 3. If it is not legal to kick their ass (which is likely) then investigate them until you find something they are doing illegal and get them arrested.

I think i might have figured it out. even though people deep down know religion is wrong (c'mon, the moon creates light?) people need assurance. something to have their back against the wall so they have something solid, concrete and indisputable. something solid in their life, like a rock. religion offers this, all u need is to lie to yourself a bit, or omit ur critical thinking. science is different, it only offers answers WHEN it can. it doesnt provide an absolute for everythingm not yet

When science DOES have an answer, that's when you have a theory. Science doesn't give facts. It looks at the facts and gets a theory from them that is meant to explain the facts - After rigorous testing and peer review of course. The scientific definition of theory is entirely different from the colloquial usage.

They have told me that the bible is so full of contradictions that they can't find any reason to see it as a credible source for anything. Hear how religionists say "athe-ist" like its just the random name of another religion. But the word "a-theist" literally means "NOT-theist" (a believer in theology). It's like if I say I'm "not-Irish", that doesnt mean I am therefore Bulgarian. The term a-theist is too academic anyway, lets just say "you are a religionist", and some other people are "not".

I agree with much of what you are saying and I am religious. I think the ultimate goal for any human being is to be able to retain with integrity your core belief system and strive to live peacefully with other people. The problem lies in the tendency of religion to promote intolerance. I think this is largely an interpretation error based on human flaws and arrogance, rather than an error in the religion itself.

And America was founded in part because of religious intolerance. English pilgrims settled in Plymouth County in order to escape religious intolerance back in Britain.

Love is supposed to be some sort of extreme attraction which is special in its own way, but i just dont understand why that would exist and how it works. People constantly say they're in love, then get a divorce with their wife or husband or what have you soon after. I just dont get it.

@cornflakeclusters I'm a 15 year old kid, by the way, and i have had relationships with girls and believed I was "in love" at one point, but then i realized i was only physically attracted to this girl after I realize how much i dislike her personality and couldn't relate with her. Now there's a girl at my school who i find really attractive and interesting, and i feel a special attraction towards her, but how could it be any different than physical attraction if I dont know ANYTHING about her?

@dakiller234 Your logic is flawed. You're basically saying love can't exist because you haven't experienced it. Just because you haven't experienced a certain emotion, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Love itself is an emotion that does exist, just like happiness, depression or anger. Many people have never experienced depression, but that doesn't mean depression doesn't exist.

@dakiller234 No, it's not the same at all. We know certain emotions exists (like love) because if someone experiences an emotion, it must obviously exist. The existence of emotion is proven by the very fact that you can experience them. Emotions are simply chemical reactions inside your brain. However, saying you "feel" God therefore God must exist is silly, that would be like saying "I feel fairies, I have faith that fairies exist, therefore fairies must exist".

If you are very attached to someone and feel a lot of affection for that person, then of course it will feel bad when your relationship with that person ends. But that doesn't mean the emotion "love" does not exist. What you're saying doesn't negate my point.

The reason we feel love is because it helps the species to survive. It's entirely evolutionary. "Love" makes people pair-bond. If a mother and father love each other, they "pair-bond", they stay together and both care for their child/children, a child is more likely to survive if it has both parents around to support it, protect it, and provide for it.
