I don't know about this specific competition, but "Lover's Waltz" is an illegal tune in most fiddle competitions since it is a modern copyrighted tune by Jay Ungar. Almost all fiddle competitions state public domain tunes must be played.
I guess the judges thought different. She won the whole shooting match. This was a fiddle competition, not a violin recital. I feel all three tunes were done very well.
World champion of what? I live in TX and am 30 yr member of TX Old Time Fiddlers. Tell us your name and we shall see if you are truthful. She does appear to have quite a bit of classical training. Only one tuner is not the norm for contest fiddlers. But she plays amazing waltzes. Breakdown technique comes with sitting in with the best. For her young age she is very very good. Just need to get her out of US and into TX. TX Shorty, Dale Morris,Randy Elmore will get her into World Champ shape.
That's why they have contests. I learned to play and competed in contests many years ago. Terry Morris won about all the ones I went to. But you learn more in the back when these guys and gals jam with you then any other teacher can pass on. And as you know Tx has always had it's own style. I think she does a good job on her waltzes. She has a longer version of same one elsewhere on here. She hits all her dbl stops well. Still sounds a bit classical but very pleasant.
That was beautiful. Thank's for the comments and tips. You are one heck of a fiddle player. I used to only play fiddling music but now I'm at a school that only teaches classical and I miss fiddling. Keep up the good work and if you're ever playing around Tampa, Fl let me know. In Christ, Kyle Hammond
Did anyone notice that she is "good lookin" too? I think she is plum pretty.

although this is well-executed, the texas aesthetic does come off as a bit forced at those high tempos.
