I am interested in doing this to my 95 CCDRW 6.5ltr. What can I expect to invest to have it up and running. I would want a 12 valve with my 4l80... any recomendations on what I could do to save money or make it easier?
hey what you got for computer to run transmission and is the tranny built up? i have a 12 valve in my 2000 crew cab with 4l80e ran by tci. tranny is not working like i want it to so any suggestions would be great. thank you
@chevyfnrulz you got my address lol but you bitched out when i told your broke ass to come visit me ... instead you tryed to be a tough guy on the internet and still didnt upload a video of anything you drive... you FAIL and i OWN you bitch
@JustJeepin666 i've heard literally over 20 excuses about the duramax. yours is one ive already heard. isuzu designed the engine, and most of the parts are still made in japan, and shipped to ohio. deal with it pussy, and put isuzu mud flaps on your truck. oh, you don't have one.
just goes to show you people swap cummins into their fords and chevys .... you never hear about a dodge owner swapping a duramax or a powerstroke into their truck
@gilraine1225 ehh dodges are finicky sometimes they last forever and take a real beating.. and sometimes they just fall apart they are not consistent with quality like ford and GM are with their trucks
@CrackinVTEC666 dodge doesnt make the engine, its owned by a seperate company. gm could put cummins engines in their diesel production line, but that would be point less since they have their own engine and prices would go up
@TheyCallMeDingus funny thing was before dodge and cummins teamed up back in the 80's cummins actually offered gm a deal to use their engines but gm turned it down...just imagine how things woula played out had we seen oem light-medium duty gm trucks with cummins
@CrackinVTEC666 true but the engines usually being swapped into said trucks are 12valves, as they are mechanical and require less wiring and no computer hassle. i mean yes people have swapped 5.9 common rails in old fords, or even 6.7's i have seen swapped. but 9/10 times it's usually a 12 valve and the reason i mentioned has a lot to do with it, not taking away from the quality of a cummins, just saying
I've been looking at adapter plates for this type of conversion. Other than the flexplate change, do I need anything else to use a stock 4l80E transmission with a 5.9?
cummins is the best diesel motor but chevy is the best truck cause they have the allison tranny in the dirtymax and when you have a 5.9 24valve cummins in a silverado with a allison tranny you have a damn near indestructable truck.
@daltonj4life please you are a fucking douche look those numbers up again and keep lookin at them because since the d-max has been out they've been makin way fuckin higher numbers than any cummins, and still to this day. even in the performance world for diesels they have been slowly falling off the map and ford has even made some impressive numbers, dont get me wrong i love cummins i work on 555ci and 855's all day but you have to draw the line somewhere.they are all good except '03.5 upfords
hey prob a dumb question but i got an 83 chev with a done up 400 small block. it got the turbo 400 trans or something like that with b&m slap shifter... will the tranny hold up with a cummins pushin 400 hp?
@HondaProductions the good trick, i got a 93 2 door gmc jimmy and im looking for a chevy duramax write off so i can buy it take the motor and put it into my jimmy. :P be the first 93 deisel :P
The 'F' sucks stock tho. lol. And the 'S' version is comparably weaker than the Cummins or Powerstroke. But with a little work the 'F' version 6.5 TD is acually the best out of all the older diesels. I don't know why GM didn't just build them to the same specs as Ford or Dodge. :(
@4thstooge num nuts it aint that piece a shit dodge pullin it its the cummins and check ur numbers the new duramax puts out 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque making that cummins 350hp and 650 pound-feet torque nothing compared to the new duramax linked with the best transmission in the allison 1000 its ok tho u seem like more of a toyota guy!
once again a really fucking imature thing to say, i just dont understandd fucking faggets today that say gay shit like this, it doesnt even have to do with the chevy. and jimmys fucking suck, there old pieces of shit with a pos 4.3
mines got a 6.5 :) we can race if you want. mud, street lol i do both haha whats with you and gay? gay this gay that? are you hidding something? do you dress up like a girl or something? or do you just take it in the ass? either or man what you do with your life is not my problem but we dont need to have your sex life on youtube
how the hell did you squeeze a shitty 6.5 in a blazer? your a dumbass but i dont even care anymore, im done talking about this. at least your not a total dickhead like some people.
it aint shitty, and its a jimmy. we had to bed the fire wall a bit and relacate the oil filter to fit a second battery under the hood. it wasnt that hard "dumbass" but it is if not the first 93 jimmy deisel on the streets. getting a 6 inch lift soon too.
@lespaul12001 i have one. i dont haul any more than 8k and it pulls it more than fine. the 26 mpg isnt too bad either. and after the intake, turbo spring kit, straight pipes, and the heath performance chip, its pretty quick too. it definitely does not suck.
@lespaul12001 .. i would have to disagree they were a pretty good engine i got one with 275k on it ina 92 silverado and its been about the most reliable truck ive ever owned.. the only problem they had was they tranny but if you sway a 5 speed in ur in business.. but true they are no duramax
not entirely a 6.2L will get better mpg then a cummins will. also the 6.2L served its purpose. a light duty diesel intended for fuel economy not pulling houses down.
@1badazzblazer you are fucking crazy. First of all its 6.2 litres to 5.9. then isnt that what light duty diesel are for, isnt that the whole reason they put them in trucks is to pull in the first place.
sorry i am not f****ing crazy. 6.2L compared to a 5.9 is comparing apples to oranges.
the 6.2L will pull, just not like a newer diesel will. jump in a 454 and pull a trailer with a truck on it and you will probably see 7 mpg. throw a 6.2L on it, granted it will not pull as well or as fast as a 454 would but it will yield much better fuel economy. That is why the 6.2L served its purpose. in the 80s and late 80s people were looking for fuel economy. They still are.
just because an engine has a larger displacement doesn't necessarily mean it will go through more fuel. 6.2L used pre-chambers to mix the fuel and air before injecting it into the cylinder. the 5.9 uses direct injections which is made more for power but not fuel economy. if diesels didn't get better fuel economy then gas trucks there would be no use for them. especially when diesel fuel is almost a $1 more per gallon.
yeah you must run with the wind and pulled with another truck to get that. lol.
i'm not saying a 6.2L is better than a cummins. i'm just saying that the engine did what it was designed for. if you need a house pulled down go get a cummins. want mpg get a 6.2
and seriously you sound like a kid i go to school with. his powerstroke gets 44 mpg and his dad has it chipped and stuff (his words) when i asked if it was a chip or a programmer he didn't know the difference.
Despite all shit-talkers on this video who know little about diesel engines, you have a very nice truck with a Cummins set-up. You take good care of that truck, chevycumminsbuilder.
you would rather havea powerchoke then a cummins holy crap are you dumb as SH!T... oh ya and thats a sweet truck i hope to get mine all done soon i did a 24 valve common rail into my 72 gmc 10 inch lift and 40 inch rubber. i will post a vid
stupid, they didn't even have duramaxes then, and cummins are probably the best diesel engines made. proves u dont know anything about them, because they are alot better than powerjoke and duramax (which this truck never had)
hey man i gotta 99 gmc yukon im thinking very very very hard about doing the 12 valve swap on its currently the stock 350 with the 4l60e tranny ......... what do u think it will cost me ball park to do the swap?
My husband is putting a 5.9 cummins in our 94 gmc duallie with a 4l80e too. Was there any sources you used for wiring schematics for the throttle position sensor, tach, fuel and air heaters?
I have a few of the schematics but the whole system is pretty simple to hook up. I would need to know was it a 6.5, 350 or 454 originally and I could help you out.
Well it had a 454 in it when we bought it but it didn't run quite right, kept getting hot. So we did some investigating and checked the VIN tags to find it should have had a 350 originally and someone must have upgraded it, but never changed the computer. So I guess we are talking 350. The 454 blew a head gasket so we bought the cummins.
if you wanted to do this in a half ton, you would have to do a SAS to hold that 1100lb Cummins. the swap isn't legal in all states too, because of the emissions crap( diesel motor in a truck with a O.E. gas motor)
Ok i got a truck just like that a shop a 5.9L a adapter to chevy tranny what else do i need what transmission did you use. I can figure out the gadges and I know i have to lift the body 3in i can make motor and trans mounts how much did the transmission controller cost and where did you get it from. what oil pan did you use and front assories fan etc. i would like to do it this x-mas break so send me a message so i can save myself a headache thanks alot
Suspension hasnt been an issue with any of my swaps. I crank the torsion up a bit thats all. How hard was it? Well there is alot involved. I can do a swap in two weeks.
I used the P30 van adapter so thats the starter this swap uses. Its the same two bolt starter they use in alot of cummins powered school buses with an AT 545 trans.
I am interested in doing this to my 95 CCDRW 6.5ltr. What can I expect to invest to have it up and running. I would want a 12 valve with my 4l80... any recomendations on what I could do to save money or make it easier?

and seriously you sound like a kid i go to school with. his powerstroke gets 44 mpg and his dad has it chipped and stuff (his words) when i asked if it was a chip or a programmer he didn't know the difference.

chevycumminsbuilder 2 years ago 33
Despite all shit-talkers on this video who know little about diesel engines, you have a very nice truck with a Cummins set-up. You take good care of that truck, chevycumminsbuilder.

@chevycumminsbuilder
Wow what an idiot... That's pretty badass with a cummins in it, but I must say I like powerstrokes more.

Z71ricrkilr 2 years ago
stupid, they didn't even have duramaxes then, and cummins are probably the best diesel engines made. proves u dont know anything about them, because they are alot better than powerjoke and duramax (which this truck never had)
whyzee125 2 years ago
@jbeasley702 in the 1999 models they put in 6.5L detroit diesels

kx250ltr450 3 years ago
I was wondering how you go thru emission testing and pass, since you put a cummins in a truck that came with a VIN # that says it's a gas truck
Z71ricrkilr 3 years ago
We dont have any emissions testing here. But I know several guys that have changed their titles to diesel.
chevycumminsbuilder 3 years ago
My husband is putting a 5.9 cummins in our 94 gmc duallie with a 4l80e too. Was there any sources you used for wiring schematics for the throttle position sensor, tach, fuel and air heaters?
CountryGirlZ28 3 years ago
I have a few of the schematics but the whole system is pretty simple to hook up. I would need to know was it a 6.5, 350 or 454 originally and I could help you out.
chevycumminsbuilder 3 years ago
Well it had a 454 in it when we bought it but it didn't run quite right, kept getting hot. So we did some investigating and checked the VIN tags to find it should have had a 350 originally and someone must have upgraded it, but never changed the computer. So I guess we are talking 350. The 454 blew a head gasket so we bought the cummins.
CountryGirlZ28 3 years ago
any help with that would be great!! I would lve if you had any tips for doing the same thing in my 6.2 Chevy, its got the 4 manual in it.
vsandmnv 3 years ago
hey do you this would work in a 93 half ton chevy? or too heavy?
chevy350651 2 years ago
if you wanted to do this in a half ton, you would have to do a SAS to hold that 1100lb Cummins. the swap isn't legal in all states too, because of the emissions crap( diesel motor in a truck with a O.E. gas motor)
Z71ricrkilr 2 years ago
BTW. You COULD get a Z-71 1/2 ton in this body style with the 6.5 Turbo. The swap would be completely legit.
ruquik 2 years ago
yeh, that would be completely legal, but he wanted to do it in a newer 1/2 ton
Z71ricrkilr 2 years ago
great combo!

BruceCountyFinest 3 years ago
how hard was the swap and is your suspension holding up to the weight of the cummins?
Z71ricrkilr 3 years ago
Suspension hasnt been an issue with any of my swaps. I crank the torsion up a bit thats all. How hard was it? Well there is alot involved. I can do a swap in two weeks.
chevycumminsbuilder 3 years ago
which starter are you using?
1988diesel 3 years ago
I used the P30 van adapter so thats the starter this swap uses. Its the same two bolt starter they use in alot of cummins powered school buses with an AT 545 trans.
