  • Tatsuo Suzuki passed away on July 12th 2011 at the age of 83. He died having lived a very full life doing what he loved everyday, Wado Karate. Truly a martial arts legend. And an amazing man to know. To learn more about the man, read his story in his own words in "Suzuki, The Fullness of a life in Karate" which you can find on amazon in hard cover or soft.

  • @mamunestor

    Hello,

I really appreciate your video because I practice karate and I too am

    inspires public demonstrations.

Moreover, I find the music beautiful and I would love to have it.

What is its title and author?

    In advance thank you.

  • today Sensei Tatsuo Suzuki passed away...R.I.P.

  • Rest In Peace Senssei !!

    Hai !!

  • hanchi Suzuki Sensei is Wado - Ryu not just a part of him he is now the embodiment along with Grandmaster Ohtsuka. :)

  • Thanks man you made my day.

God how much I miss Wado...

  • 02:40=Wow!!!Suzuki Sensei,the best!

  • i am a shotokai black belt changed to wado for a more all round style

  • 8th Dan, Wado Ryu, right?

    "Bow to your sensei!" lol

    Much respect for this guy.

  • Wado is one of the most beautiful style of karate because is a mix of jujutsu, karate shotokan/shito ryu and a little part of aikido.

  • Well Otsuka did train with many different karate-ka, but formally he only trained under Funakoshi. There is no Akido in Wado, it is Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu

  • There is a bit of Aikido in Wado Ruy style. Wado has a lot of irimi and nagashi technique.

  • i first saw tatsuo suzuki, giving lessons here in bristol england in 1969,i was 15 he looked old then to me,to think this amazing person is still teaching today..

  • I'll be honest, I never had much respect for Wado-Ryu until I saw this video. That's changed now.

  • Hanchi Suzuki came to the Netherlands this weekend. I never had a training like that, unbelievable. :)

  • shiahn suzuki was my first sensei back in 1964... a brilliant instructor and a real gentleman.. true karate-ka.

  • that old man is awesome

  • Thats my boy! Suzuki sensei is freaking awesome!

  • He was fantastic back in the 70's and he still fantastic today.

  • he has graded my dad and i have trained with him several time!

  • That man is truely amazing. He is the head instructer of my style, which is wado-ryu. I have had the honour to meet and train with this man not once, but twice. Really theres nothing more to say than this man is amazing, when he walks on the floor, he is a totally different person. He may look old and fragile but he is fast and strong. And anyone training wado should take any oppurtunity possible to meet and train wit this man.

  • Suzuki Sensei is the chief instructor of Wado Kokusai. Wado Ryu's Chief instructor is Jiro (Hironori II) Otsuka.

  • Tatsuo Suzuki is the leader of Wado International Karate-Do Federation (WIKF), or Wado Ryu.

  • You do know that Wado International Karate-do Federation when said all in Japanese is the Wado Kokusai Karate Do Renmei right? So what I said is correct.

  • Wado Ryu is the Otsuka family branch. Wado Kai is the JKF branch.

  • otsuka is dead. Anyway, Dr. Kosslow is a member of the Wado Ryu technical committee and my instructor. Suzuki sensei is definately the head of Wado Ryu. Believe me. Now lets quit arguing about which godlike blackbelt is the head of what "branch" of karate and just learn. Or attempt to anyway.

  • You should ask him again. I know him pretty well. He is a member of the technical commitee for the Wado kokusai Karate do Renmei or WIKF USA. My instructor is currently the president of the WIKF USA and we train with Suzuki Sensei and sensei Kosslow quite often, as well as the rest of the technical commitee for the USA. We were together in Japan last April training with Suzuki Sensei. Otsuka's son and grandson are apart of Wado Ryu so the Otsuka family is still alive.

  • I know, i was refering to otsuka sensei being dead. Ill ask. I was pretty sure it was Wado Ryu however.

  • I SAW HIM IN U.K. OUTSTANDING.

  • What a fantastic video, it shows the professor and the Art of Wado in the best possible light and clearly you can see how Wado is a complete system.

  • Proffesor Tatsuo Suzuki was born on April 27, 1928 in Yokohama and graduated whit a degree in economics from univ. of Japan He began training in karate at age of fourteen, reciving direct instrucions from the founder of Wado-ryu karate, Hironori Ohtsuka.

  • I have visited that University in 2003. I just got back from a trip to Japan with Suzuki Sensei. We did some trainng in Iwakuni and traveled all over the Kyoto Osaka Nara areas. You can read more on my blog and see some pictures. I blog on myspace. Look up mamu_nestor and you will find it.

Thanks a lot for this video ^_-

  • Even though I attained my Shodan in Kyokushin Karate. My first introduction to Karate was attending Wado Ryu classes at my local school. Even now in his later years Hanshi shows true power and grace in the execution of these moves.

    Respect

    Osu

  • Thanks! It's always interesting to see Suzuki in action. By the way, what's the name of the song?

  • It is from the sound track to The Last Samurai.

  • Suzuki Sensei has such a mastery over true Wado-Ryu. I have had the pleasure of training and grading for my shodan with him and it was a truly a rare karate experience.

  • That it is. He will be in Dallas Texas this November for WIKF Winter Training and Suzuki Cup Tournament.

  • This wado-ryu is so beautiful, Suzuki sensei moves like a lightning bolt.

  • Yes he is the best exponent of Wado that I have ever been taught by or met.
