  • can someone give me a link to a video where they show how ur not ment to telegraph ur movements

  • ...at least he's wearing a lame..

  • Brad Bogus, you have poor form.

  • And my French surname is Rapier...how funny is that ha ha ha.

  • I'm sorry but everytime I see Fencing it reminds me of that Part in Indiana Jones when that dude is doing all that crap with his sword and Indiana just shoots him.

  • that is one of the less advanced attacks in fencing

  • thx!

  • "How to Fence : How to Fake an Attack in Fencing with a Feint" or "how to make a simple thing sound complicated"

  • a defensive parry as opposed to an offensive parry...?

  • @L33tHackzor I reckon he's just being more explicit about the purpose of a parry maneuver when he mentions the "defensive parry", rather than implying there's such a thing as an "offensive parry". I guess a "beat" is the nearest actual maneuver to anything that can be described as an "offensive parry".

  • Cameltoe much?

  • I'm fine and all with him trying to teach people basic things (I'm actually a beginner myself), but I think that when it's just this guy alone and no partner, I couldn't make heads or tails of this. I know enough to understand what he's saying, but if I didn't know this already it wouldn't help.

And I agree. Why did he put his mask on?

  • Wow, so many experts here. I'm indeed blessed to draw from the knowledge of so many fencing masters. There's nothing bogus or even poor about this guy's technique. It's intended as a beginning lesson. Give the kid a break.

  • @Quillons1

Are you blind? To give a tutorial you don't have to be a 'perfect' fencer but this guy's technique is definately bad.

  • @evannalynchje Again, I'm blessed to have you to tell me what's good and bad technique. Who cares? He's teaching basic techniques. He's not doing quantam physics. There's nothing wrong with his explanation. I'll keep my eyes peeled for you in the next Olympics though since you're so good at this.

  • @Quillons1

^_^ Not the next one. The one after that? I'll be there. Trust me.

  • @evannalynchje Then I'll be rooting for you! Take it to 'em!

  • His NAME is Brad Bogus.

I think we all know what he's trying to tell us.

  • @slackalope That this video is bogus

  • at first i laughed at these but then i thought... well these videos can be useful. i can make my students watch them as motivation to train harder. because if they don't, they will have terrible technique like this guy

  • why did he put his mask on?

  • He's shy?

  • shut up bro

  • wow. ok. u may be making this for beginners, since more of them would like to learn how to feint, but i was looking forward to some advanced tactics. *when feinting, u can also change from ur line from 6 position to 4. this gives ur opponent no other choice than to attack in ur 6 line. this is also feining when trying to provoke ur opponent to attack u.

  • i started fencing when i was six im 12 now

  • shut up bro.

  • no one gives A SHIT

  • What age is advicable to start teaching kids fencing?

  • depends, if u want them to be world champions i wud start at 5 years old. gennerally the kids lessons are for 5 or 6 years old to 13 year olds. hope tht helped

  • Yes it did. Thanks rndmnrd

  • Thanks for your response

  • Cutover... Sorry for commenting twice, but I'm commenting as I watch. I have NEVER heard anyone call it a "cutover". Coupe, I believe, although I most likely got that spelling wrong.

  • Cutover would be the English translation, as... "coupe" means cut. Disengagement is also "degagement".

But as fencers know, some words are "kept" even when using *English* w/ fencing (such as 'riposte')... but the word "parry" is the English translation for "parer".

Aussi, nous avons "counter-attack", mais, c'est contre-attaque a la francaise.

So... when speaking in English about the "parer avec riposte", we should TECHNICALLY say "block & answer" or "parry & answer".

    C'est stupide, non? :D

  • I know this, but I just think...

If you're going to make a video in english about fencing, you should use the commonly used english terms. Don't you agree?

  • i do get what you mean but why would u focuz so much on names and words instead of the skill and useful knowledge for the fencing?

  • That's the thing. Not only is he using terminology nobody uses, he's demonstrating terrible form and execution.

  • If you establish the right-of-way, then feint, and they counter-attack, there is no need to parry their counter-attack. That's overkill. If you finish your action, you get the touch. In fact, with the more advanced fencing, if you try to parry, they will most likely get you anyway because of the hesitation of your attack, and the touch is more likely to be called against you.

  • my name is inego montoya

    you killed my father...

    prepare to die

  • I love that part.

  • Thank you so much! I have never fenced in my life, but now I know I can, "KICK ASS!" i CHALLANGE ALL COMERS! I am ready!...I meam it!

  • I'll kick your ass.

  • wow...please dont post anymore videos. "cutover?" where did you learn how to fence?.... Fencing for dummies?....idiots guide to fencing? just embarassing

  • yeah the fient advance has won alot of matches for me

  • wbout foil?

  • whats more popular in the US colleges? epee foil or sabre?

  • take epee way. sabre is gays' job

  • sry guys i sound like a noob here.. but which type is more popular?? epee or sabre?

  • from what i know epee is more popular in Europe and Sabre is more popular in America

  • Does anyone know where to watch the olimpic fencing matches online??? They´re never on TV!!

  • God, who the fuck cares!?

Oh well done, you can fence, so can I.

Now, shut up and watch the damn video!

  • Why should any foil fencer in the world parry a counter-attack??? If your opponent rectas to your feint by doing a counter-attack, you just continue your attack (make an attack out of your feint).

Anyway these movements dont look too professional to me...

  • They shouldnt, if they have a good director and have point in line, but if the counter attack comes before the complete extension on the part of the feint a lot of directors will call the counter the attack. which is why having untrained directors (which you always will short of nationals and FIE) sucks.

  • thank you for letting me know wait a sec while i see if i give 2 shits what you think.......

    nope srry

  • LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THOMAS VANEK!!!

  • In a disengage, you only use your fingertips, which he says...but then he uses his whole wrist when he does it...

And did he just call his foil a "sword"? LOL

  • daing people are rude these days!!!! It was a pretty ok video.

  • omg why are all the comments lyk so rude? come on ppl show a little respect

  • If they go to make a counter attack in foil whats the point in parrying it? You have the sodding right of way!

  • I think he means beat but it's just in case you have someone like him directing the bout...then again he'll probably call it the other person's parry...

  • Oh I love the modern age where someone can look up an article on wikipedia and become an "expert" in five minutes. THis man has obviously never fenced before.

  • Its called a COUPE dickshot

  • it can also be called a cutover. there's more than one name. it just depends on what you've been taught.

  • He isn't a fencer! Or if he is.....man..... levels have slipped

    SWORD!? WTF?! It's a F.O.I.L

What the heck is he doing on "Expert" village!?

  • a Foil is a training SWORD

  • A foil is a thin whippy piece of rectangular metal that can't cut for toffee

hmmm, yes, sounds very like a sword to me

  • Right you obviously have never been hit by a foil before, why do you think you have to wear so much equipment? SO you don't get shanked.

  • No... Foil used to be my first weapon, I have my own steam and electric foils, I fence epee and THEY can leave their mark, foils are just a wee bit bendier!

  • Stabbing weapons(Foil and epee) don't have a cutting edge. You new to this planet?

  • A coupe, or cut over, is to reach over a parry to land the touch, and its still made with the pointed end. Youre correct, there is not necessarily a cutting edge, and the move is made with the point, but irish dancer is not wrong either.

  • epee and sabre can't cut either but that doesen't make them wimmpy

  • a foil isn't just a training sword. other people compete in it. also, i think the better word for sword would be weapon.

  • NO a foil is not a training sword, it is a gentlemans weapon used in the early days there are actual foil competitions I think that a foil is better than epee and sabre

  • You're the reason why fencing isn't a popular sport like Basketball or Football.

  • oh man this sucks so much... Are you realy fencer or you just have lucked in your book and trying to copy?

  • You hit the ceiling while putting your mask on too =D!

  • It's not called a CUT OVER. It's called a COUPE

  • it can also be called a cut over.

  • I'm sure that there is many names for all of the fencers terms but i have learned it as a cutover

  • why on earth are you putting your mask on are you trying to protect yourself from low flying insects. and this is "expert" village not "some guy who gives a half hearted attempt at a lesson with all the wrong language village"

  • Poor. An attack to draw a counter attack to parry in second intention is a false attack not a feint. A feint draws a parry. Also "you feint, they parry and miss, you come around for the counterattack?" He doesn't have a clue.

  • a feint is a false attack...

  • feint- a simulated thrust to draw an opponents parry. I have always differentiated based on the opponents response. I guess it's a difference in semantics. I still disagree with Mr. bogus because of his monologue. I apologize for and retract my statement of his not having a clue.

  • I'm with jedimasterham. I think it would be "less worse" if he was showing this with another person. Perhaps than we could get it.

And he calling the foil a sword is really sad!

  • it would be more understandible if he drilled it with another person

  • Dude, please be a little more masculine and stop calling it a sword. It's called a foil.

  • The cut over???

  • lol. i find it an ironic coincidence that his last name is "bogus."

  • for those people that have never seen quality fencing (high national and international level) this is what it is about. this man disgraces the sport by calling himself an expert.

  • your parry doesnt need to completely go across the body unless its a really deep lunge

  • that was sad.

  • his reposte on the lunge was terrible he wobbled like he never normally lunged like that before!

  • "...with your sword..."

    *headdesk*

  • for me as a noob fencer, i somewhat understand, but I'd need to see another person doing this with you to really get what you're talking about..

  • The video instead is more about a very basic tactical application of a feint of why you need to feint and also what to do when your feint is successful. I guess I thought the video was geared for more advanced students while it is more for beginner students. From the thumbnail I thought it was going to be a video on Golubitskiy.... ah ahaah!! (Comment Part 2 of 2)

  • I dont do fencing, os that made NO SENCE WHAT SO EVER

  • Nerdlinger!

  • lol his last name BOGUS

  • i think it is an excellent idea to post these sort of things, and i hope that there will be a hostile free environment for questions. Because i was curious, why would you need to parry if they go for a counter attack. Surely it would be better to just continue the attack and keep right of way giving you the point?

  • Because, your opponent would obviously parry you if you just attack head-on. Its just trying to anticipate your opponent's move.

  • no but the point of the feint, is that you draw their parry and then dissengage.if they start extending the arm, and then they go for a counter, and you go to parry there counter, you will mostlikely not make it, but also you will have lost the right of way.

  • Thank you for spreading knowledge about this great sport. Good job with the video, and happy fencing.
