This is brilliant stuff, comedy snobs can fuck off. The improvisation is brilliant, for me that makes good comedy. The actors look like they genuinely enjoy what they do which is better than some over scripted, over produced big budget tatt.

It's not witty or intelligent, but it can be funny. Comedy is like a frog - it dies when you dissect it.
@ailiepants People should say it's shit is because we pay a license fee and that funds this show, and I don't want that to happen, not when there's genuinely so much brilliant non-commissioned stuff out there. I never liked 2 Pints of Lager or My Family, but they look genius by comparison. This show was playing in Northern seaside resorts in creaky venues for years and that's really where it should have stayed. Humour may be subjective, but the craft of joke writing isn't. There is none here.

Yes it is a man which is an old British tradition of humour which if I remember Monty Python used quite extensively.

This is brilliant stuff, comedy snobs can fuck off. The improvisation is brilliant, for me that makes good comedy. The actors look like they genuinely enjoy what they do which is better than some over scripted, over produced big budget tatt.

I just have a great appreciation for BBC Comedy that is all Growing up the only channel that would allow British comedy was the PBS Station in NYC. If it wasn't for that station, I wouldn't have known about the great stuff they (BBC) was showing! Benny Hill, Blackadder, Hitchhikers GTTG, Monty Python etc. lol I still Love it British, Irish or whatever BBC Rocks! Great Stuff!

Sad how people seem to think there's a hierarchy of comedy. Comedy snobs, get fucked. If you can't appreciate other types, stick to your usual stuff, in your little box, telling yourself how clever you are that you like satirical, political alternative humour. That's great. Good for you. Personally I can laugh at this, I can laugh at the Young Ones, I can laugh at Blackadder, I can laugh at South Park. I don't compare them because they're so different.

@fasteddyuk Of course it is. Snobbery amongst music fans is nothing new, and people get so up themselves about what they like. So it has a low budget and it's slapstick, so what? If it makes people laugh why should anyone sit there and say it's shit? Humour is a personal thing. Sometimes in the right mood, someone falling over can make you piss yourself laughing. It's not witty or intelligent, but it can be funny. Comedy is like a frog - it dies when you dissect it.

@ailiepants People should say it's shit is because we pay a license fee and that funds this show, and I don't want that to happen, not when there's genuinely so much brilliant non-commissioned stuff out there. I never liked 2 Pints of Lager or My Family, but they look genius by comparison. This show was playing in Northern seaside resorts in creaky venues for years and that's really where it should have stayed. Humour may be subjective, but the craft of joke writing isn't. There is none here.

@Pixiesforever7 Seinfeld is shite, most of Monty Python misses the spot and has no real social content except from a couple of films, Woody Allen spends so much time up his own rectum most people find him a bore and the Simpsons is a cartoon not a live performance done in front of an audience dealing with complex issue that the waxing bit is just a small part. Yes it is a man which is an old British tradition of humour which if I remember Monty Python used quite extensively.

It's a good thing Les Dawson wasn't doing that 40 years ago otherwise Mrs Brown's Boys might look like a pathetic, horribly dated and lazy 'comedy'.

This program comes from Ireland and that is a conservative society bound by the catholic church. If you're looking at comedy that 'subverts the catholic hegemony' look at Bill Hicks, Stewart Lee, Father Ted. Any deeper meaning doesn't make up for how piss weak the jokes are in this programme. This is the comedy that Timmy Mallett would make.

@Pixiesforever7 No becos Monty Python were following a tradition dating back 2 the 19th Century so by your reasoning Monty Python should b dismissed. As to Timmy Mallet no subversion there. Father Ted never confrontd any real issue regarding the catholic church & particularly as the series is set in an isolated place far from any 'real' community. I'm a great fan of Bill Hicks but he was not an actor performer. Stewart Lee can be good but he gets nowhere near being a Lenny Bruce

I believe the CC is a very restrictive Religion and in many ways not a very "human" one if you know what I mean. I never understood why Priests and Nuns couldn't marry, and I think Fergal O'Connor on is appearances on the Late Late Show in the 60s was right in his views on divorce.
