If you knew the situation of his death and not pay attention to the movie you would know that he was found outside of his car a gun was near him but not in a place that it could have fallen out of his hand plus why would someone use their right hand to shoot them self in the right side of the head, the coroner ruled it a suicide but there are to many missing pieces. I for one do not think he killed himself outside of his girlfriends, was just easier to rule suicide and move on
@ivan764607 They were actually recorded about the same time in the summer of 1967. Barry Gordy didn't like Stevie's version at first but it has since gone on to be the most recognized and popular version of this song. HTH =)
To the.. YOUTUBE team would u please fix this video Its off key badly, Paul williams is not on the same page ,as the song ,thank u ...LOVE THIS SONG..
i hate how the movie just shows him as an alcoholic when in actuality he had sickle cell anemia and he used alcohol to ease the pain. it's sad that he didnt get the help that he needed. rip
I don't know if he committed suicide, and I don't know if anyone really knows whether it was suicide. But those that are using a scene in a movie to decide reality, need to realize that scenes are created to build reaction. I would hope the scene is accurate but not being there no one will ever truly know
So nice to hear Paul on lead, he truly was the soul of The Temps, they revolutionized harmony as a group but paul OWNED this song. Sad because he was singing ironically, for once in my life its all good, but in true life he was falling apart. We miss you Paul.
(b. 1939, Birmingham, Alabama, USA, d. 17 August 1973).
Paul Williams left the group in 1971, to be replaced by another former Distant member, Richard Street; Paul Williams shot himself in 1973, after years of depression and drug abuse.
The same clip of Paul singing this on the TCB special was fine up until a few months ago. Whoever has it, please upload. I miss watching Paul sing his heart out.
This rendition of the beautiful song is my very favorite!! I love how it starts with "Thank you very kindly" TCB was a great show! I remember watching it as a kid! thanks for the upload!
If you people think he didn't commit suicide then you must ride the short bus and drink chocolate milk from a scooby doo thermos. The movie was 100% accurate seeing as how Otis Williams depicted thee entire thing. I know it's sad to think a great singer like Paul would go out like that but it's true. HE DID. there is no conspiracy theory.
@dyantis1 You must be on the bus too! The movie is not 100% accurate. How about you go out and read the book. There isn't a single movie mad that is 100% accurate. Rambo dies in the book, lives in the movie. Lets not even talk about the Harry Potter movies, they are so far from the books. David Ruffin was taken to a hospital, his body wasn't dumped and found later. Otis Williams even said the movie isn't word for word. Paul in the movie was in the car. In real life he was laying outside the car.
@dyantis1 Movies are what they are....Entertainment. Do some research!! Get off the bus!!! Quit watching reality TV. Do some reading. Oh, by the way reality TV is also scripted. They aren't real either.
Paul commited suicide...Wikipedia can have false information. The movie is depicted through Otis William the founder and still living member. You should google more accurate information about the Tempts because it is true he did commit suicide. Watch the movie.
@rere2010ish I know that's right there was one where it was perfect i don't know what happened to it anyway I have it on my playlist if they haven't taken the whole video off. I will check and see love this I missed it when he sung it on Ed sullivan, I have a friend who saw it and said he cried even back then and that had to have been in the 60s or 70s
Paul Williams killed himself due to him being kicked out of the group because of his alcholism. So sad to lose such a great artist. He will always be missed.
HIS SON IS JUST AS GOOD. THANK YOU SR. AND JR. . I WILL FOREVERR WILL LOVE THIS MAN'S VOICE HE IS SO GOOD. YOU ARE A BLESSING TO US ALL. LET IT DO WHAT IT DO SIR. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. LALETHIA
@quontis09 As far as we know yes, but there has been some speculation that he was killed. I read something a while ago that does make it you think about it and sounds like it was set up.
but why did he have to leave the group? sorry but i dont know
