hey kev ive been stick welding for a little over 4 years i started real young and i like burning the stick rod hotter than normal like 180 amps for 1inch plate with a 4mm rod and for 1/4 inch i like 90 amps just alot hotter than most but that works very well for me ive never ever had a hot weld break by lack of strenth but thats how i like to weld and it works for me and im sure welding the way you do works for you to cheers for the vid kev i liked it and im going to sub cheers mate
@kawasakicrazy04 The most important part of welding is finding what works for you.
Just remember that there is always new stuff to learn about this field. Reading and videos are a great way to learn from one another. Or even a class at a local school.
If I may, like Kevin says Amperage requirements vary greatly with material thickness, temperature of material and that of the day as well.
I use a scrap of the same stuff I'm welding to check what I think the current needs are, this is dependent on your voltage too.
Practice Practice and still more practice, I grew up on the farm where my dad taught me the basics and by the time I was 14 or so an accomplished welder. Largely self taught like Kevin. the KEY is Patience and practice.
@thedirtymammal Damn.... That is a really good question!! I will have to check in the morning and get back to you. Right now I am drawing a total blank.
(Damn, turned 50 a couple months ago and the mind is already going out the back door.)
Didn't know that miller packaged a tig and a stick welder together..... I have seen a tig and mig together though..... Next video???? First to comment..... Wooooo Whooooo
As always great videos !!!

hey kevin, I weld thin steel around 125 or 130 amps. I weld 1/8" aluminum on 230 to about 260 amps. is there a decimal point on your readout?

You can weld STICKS?!? Wowsers! :-)
We have to limit you to a nice 110v HF mig to really test you.
Still over my head, but helpful video. There's a voice missing.
