@maxotromeros Oh yes, you're exactly right. It will require more force to steer but more importantly it will also take a lot more effort to get up to speed, be harder to brake because of the extra mass. I'd be interested to know just how much weight has been added to the front wheel. Also have to think about all that unsprung weight over bumps :) Could be fun.
It works because a heavy turning object has a big rotational momentum and thus is harder to change the direction of the velocity...This also means that turning might be a little harder, maybe?
lol what's fake? Go do your research this thing kicks ass! But I cant help thinking its for noobs who cant ride a bike, y'kno lik those little kids have on either side of their bike! But still its rather coolness xD
Okay for the first timer learning to ride a bike, but after that learn to ride no hands. The Fact that anyone thinks this device is at all necessary just shows how many people do not and never did learn to ride a simple bicycle.
No this should not be on motorcycles. And not all bicycles. It is a great idea and looks like it is very well done. It would be good for getting kids off of training wheels but not cost efficent.
You dont ride motorcyles do you? I do not want anything fighting me trying to go straight in a turn. besides motorcycles at any speed over say 30 miles an hour the tires/wheels are fairly heavy and make a very strong gyroscopic effect anyway. People have actually experimented with counter rotating disk brakes in an attempt to cancel out some of the wheels gyro force in order to make the bikes less stable, and easier to turn.
I considered filing a patent for a gyroscopically stabilized bicycle. The gyroscope would be a large 45lb steel disc mounted on a vertical axis and powered by a 5hp gasoline engine through a gearbox to increase the RPM to ~10,000. You would be able to ride on ice and the gyroscopic precession would cancel the tendency for the bike to fall over when cornering. You could corner the bike without leaning (traction on ice is still an issue however to provide the required centripetal acceleration).
I can do no hands up curbs and up and down hills while doing turns without a gyro bike but there was this one time i fell off my bike while doing no hands beceause i ran up a curb my but slipped off the seat the bike kept going straight for a while without me on it lol!
oh yeah well me and my cousin attached were doubling and i slipped off the seat and onto the tire and u can imagine the rest. we also put a sled on the back same with my quad
Haha brings back memories, yeah I doubled on a bike with my friend before and he was a guy so when he fell off the seat he fell into the tire and he hurt the family jewels. Then another time I ran over my friend with my bike because he was sitting on my bars and fell off!
i lol at he was a guy ya but what bout quadding like above and having the sled rolll now thats fun or the sled running into the quad. sled + bike + co-op = WALL
noooooooooo not that terrible imovie music aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Yeah, you're right. I thought about it some more after I posted 2 months ago and came to the same conclusion as you.
I've recently ridden on a motorbike, and I agree.
SpirallingBallJutsu 2 years ago
all bikes are self correcting gyroscopes
uawwildbob 3 years ago 2
that true but only when you are going at high speeds, going at slow speed theres a very weak or no gyroscopic effect

it is easy to ride a bike without hands i do it all the time on the monon for like half a mile

andykins118118 3 years ago 3
That's not a true gyroscope. A true gyrscopic bike would be able to remain upright while the bike is stationary.
What this bike does is basically store kenetic energy in it's front wheel to give the illusion of being a gyroscope.
zeuserx 3 years ago
I think it's great.

@oisiaa Hope the 5hp engine also powers the bicycle too otherwise that thing with its 45lb disc would be a bitch to ride up hills!
