@JeffersonDinedAlone I would agree, I would further add that with art it's impossible NOT to be influenced by others and old masters and such but it's important to remember the important distinction between inspiration and imitation

Their inclinations may be further focused in personal response to that exposure, however, their inclinations must supercede any influence, or they would merely be aspiring to imitate others, which would negate any original expression, and be tantamount to creative suicide. Imitiating another artist may only show you how to see as that artist sees; only creating original work willl show you how you see.
