Even the greatest artist of all time screwed up now and then; the image of Adam in the Sistine should not have a belly button, as Adam was created, not born.
@JeffersonDinedAlone Michelangelo was very inspired and full of knowledge about the topic and doctrine. The bible is not all literal, furthermore the pope Julius II questioned the doctrines on this painting, but he finally said: "it seems that God speaks to his artists more than he does to his priests." I believe he was right.
Excuse me! this presenter asserts that Michelangelo owed so much to Domenico Ghirlandaio.... I don't have a problem with the assertion, its perfectly reasonable but he presents it as a matter of fact.... which is utterly ridiculous. It's a theory and nothing else.
you can learn alot from master drawings and sculptures, like simplifying masses, design etc. but you can learn more from nature, but it is hard to jump right into drawing the round,
@oetamFCTC I don't understand what someone's nationality has to do with them appreciating great works of art. Everyone experiences art in their own way, whether they are "stiff" or otherwise. That is really a silly thing to say.
I've created a video of Michelangelo's 50 best works (art, sculpture, architecture, and drawings). Please check it out and tell me what you think. Video link below. Much appreciated :).
@JeffersonDinedAlone I would agree, I would further add that with art it's impossible NOT to be influenced by others and old masters and such but it's important to remember the important distinction between inspiration and imitation
@Ihatemyusernamemore Excellent. So very well-said. Artists are more visual than other people; their exposure to everything is further awareness, however, the amount of influence varies tremendously. Their inclinations may be further focused in personal response to that exposure, however, their inclinations must supercede any influence, or they would merely be aspiring to imitate others, which would negate any original expression, and be tantamount to creative suicide. (Cont.)
@Ihatemyusernamemore All that any art class may do is to expose you to the limitations of the instructor. In their perspective, in their comprehension, and in their ability. Imitiating another artist may only show you how to see as that artist sees; only creating original work willl show you how you see.
@JeffersonDinedAlone Modern art classes which obsess over giving a Freudian analysis to art are largely useless but during the height of the renaissance were a young Michelangelo or Da Vinci painstakingly learned his art in the Florentine workshops was time well spent, and necessary to then surpass their masters.
@thecanadianvandal the only originals i see in this docu, are the ones shown in the british museum, the ones used in the drawing class are ofcourse reproductions. so i dont see the problem... by the way im happy michelangelo didnt destroy his drawings, ive learned so much of them! and as michelangelo believed in god, lets say it was gods choice to let michelangelo save same drawings for the following artists and public.
"The drawing can be seen by any serious student". Fuck, the typical Brit motherfucker. I am not a serious student, and still I saw those drawings. Fuck you, you snobbish Brit piece of shit.
@bruceaisher "You're command of the English language". "You'RE command" ??? Ahahahah! My friend, English is not my native language. I do hope it's not yours either :-)
:-) I know the difference between "Your" and "You're". For instance, I write "You're" a stupid fuck instead of "Your" a stupid fuck. Anyway, no matter how you write it, the meaning does not change...you still remain a stupid fuck. All best.
@salvyy And you still remain an incompetent, illiterate and blind swine. I see 'your' written correctly in my comment to you, so, it would seem you are the 'stupid fuck'
