I find this video completely understandable. It's a pure numbers game of supply and demand. What still boggles my mind is that, at present, people are still investing in apts they barely use when there are Le Mans/Daytona history race cars of the best marques available for apt money. They are still making new apts. But they aren't building any new Oreca Vipers, 993 gt2 evos, Lister Storms, the list goes on. No, not cheap. But not quite a million. Yet.
@95115964: Sorry, but the lady is right. The three GTO's you're referring to are 4 liter models and therefore not officially called 250 GTO but 330 GTO.
The model in this video is actually a 64 model and there are only three of those officially made, and an additional four early models received 64 bodies later on.
This is a rebodied '63 GTO, s/n 4675GT, bought by Chris Evans for around $19m. And the 250 GTO '64 are always listed as 250's, there is no official 330 GTO.
If Ferrari recreates it, titally like it was, just mechanic, for a "adapted" price, they certainly could sell a lot of these, and thos bastards of speculators just would have to work to earn money.
Any work of art is worth what someone, anyone, is willing to pay for it. Many people might see an original Picasso as consisting of nothing other than a cheap piece of hemp canvas with some dried paint smeared across it, yet it commands top dollar at an auction.
That having been said, I think I'd likely enjoy having a 250 TR in my stable somewhat more than having a Picasso on my wall.
honestly??? i guess lot's of people would argue that it's a classic and blah blah blah, but i'd rather drive my 2010 Malibu sitting at $33 thousand, than that ugly thing, for 20 million, thats retarded.... people have too much money to spend on useless things...
@hellboy1976 how bout no... and FYI i wasn't polluting threads i was just adding my own comment, with my own opinions, if you don't like that, grow up... i was simply saying $20 million is a lot to spend on a car... thats not gunna get you to point a to point b any faster than anything else, i said, people waste a lot of money on things that they don't need...
@wordreet i was saying, in my opinion, there are alot more important things to spend 20 million dollars on then a frickin car that... i guess you could look at it as an investment... but still...
@aaronnhart Oh I agree about the 'value' of it. It's priceless and worthless at the same time. The only reason it has value beyond it's worth is the fact that either rich fanatics or over rich idiots will pay it. ;-)
@jupitersj it has every option available on it, and it it's the highest model, so really.... you have no idea what you're talking about... but thanks anyways...
@aaronnhart I have no idea what I'm talking about because I winced at someone spending 33k on a Malibu? Ok buddy, as long as you enjoy your car; it's your money. You could work on your manners though..
They are appreciating assets when supply exceeds demand. But, as an aging population dies out and the cars get older and more fragile, a point does come where the market will probably drop. This is true of most collectible items from the 1950s and 1960s - whether you are talking cars, guitars or vintage electronics - because the primary audience for these items will always be the people who admired them when they were children.
@nicky8866 and collect the insurance? Yes, still a good investment, but after you collect you will be on a bicycle waiting for your rates to come back down. Look up some claims on Veyrons etc. Scary stuff.
@NickJ95GB thats what i thought initially, but it is actually a gto, it has been rebodied since its racing career by some design house. so its a gto underneath, its got a 250lm windscreen and other influences like the low body with those taillights headlights and grill
This sort of invertment is whats called the righ get richer. These exotic cars r never cheap when countries economy is bad they drop in price that means most people find it hard to cover their bills and loose their jobs so their is no way they can fork out millions on a car that in a few years will be worth a few million more
It's a terrible investment, but a great thing to have if you want it badly enough. In 1962, it would be a great investment, but who would've known it would appreciate so so much in 50 years
@spartus09 any1 with a good eye could work is out, it won countless races and had the classic egg-grille, i bet the ALFA 8C and morgan aero will be vastly expensive in 50 years
Cant beat property considering population growth. My parents paid $25,000 for the house I grew up in it was sold in 1998 for $430,000, the same house now is valued at $900,000. Understanding thats no where near $20,000,000 but the chance of the average income owner with children owning your house will get further out of reach.
Needless to say I would rather live in a GTO or a 250 lm Im not choosy.
The "young ones" of today will probably not buy these cars when they're older..... and there's something not normal with such silly prices for "an old car" anyway. Is it "clean money"... I doubt it!
I love these cars as much as anyone, but I'm a young guy and looking at some of the people in my generation, cars like this will not be properly appreciated when we're older. Kills me to think of it
"... and everyone wants one." 0:39 i wouldnt mind havein one but not for 20 million. yeah its rare and its a ferrari but theres no way i would pay 20 million for it
yep the 1963 250 GTO with a Series II body work on a Series I chassis only 4-7(i think) compared to the 3 original 1964 250 GTO Series II built on Series II chassis
Allways use two stroke oil API TC 1% in your fuel to use modern aggressive fuels in those classic engines--the modern fuels let corrode your carrbs and tanks etc... Two stroke oil lubricates and protect all those parts!
A Ferrari is a work of art, and thus is a part of culture. Check this vid out, and see what really goes into crafting this "car", or "box on wheels". The time and the effort. The skill and the passion of the pursuit of absolute perfection.
P.S- Im more of a Porsche guy myself, but as a petrolhead, I must pay homage to one of the greatest machines man has ever produced. Its on youtube, its called Ferrari V12 Engine
@ engared... Your wasting your time with these idiots. If they can't see that car culture is relevant then they are living in a world you can't communicate with.. It's very simple.. Your right and they are wrong. End of story.
If I has a billionaire I would certainly get this thing in my collection. It is gorgeous, performs great, and is super rare. Unfortunately, I am not a billionaire so I will stick to fantasizing via youtube
Finally a marginally cordial answer. Now was that so hard? Top Gear is the most watched television show around the world outside of maybe American Idol. The UK times reported that 350 million people worldwide tune in every week to watch it, so yeah we petrolheads aren't so culturally irrelevant as you might think. :)
Erm i was cordial with you, trying to explain to you why this car was culturally relevant then you started with the name calling Mr.Bigot. Look at my first post in reply to your interests, i said nothing offensive. 350 million people watch top gear round the world every time its on so unless you have no concept of numbers or have your head up your ass, we are not a small group. Im not harrassing you Bigot, im replying to your Bigoted comments on Youtube.
Well go read the dictionary Bigot. Read what it says under culture then come back to me. You would soon discover much to your chagrin that the purchasing of this red car does fall under the very definition of culture, "the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic or age group". So my BIGOT friend, the Oxford dictionary has owned you. Go type in Ferrari in the search box. I bet there will be many vids with over 500k views. Thats relevance. Or is that too hard for you?
@engared For what its worth engared, its a nice car, but it certainly isnt worth a damn bit culturally, "inspires passions" i see this and i see a car. Just that. A car. Only fools would see this as any different from a ford pinto, in america we have a speed limit.
As a fellow gamer, i won't go into insults i normally throw at statements like this. But yeah, exactly, you don't see it. Other people do. Its like with video games, many people see them as toys, but i bet they are hellava lot more important to you. And video games have their own culture too, the Lan Parties, the Memes, etc. Thats culture. Cars do that too, the songs, the car shows, the festivals of speed just to name a few. You would be offended if i called you childish for liking video games?
@engared HAHAHAH holy shit you assume too much. They ARE just TOYS. Holy shit, just like a car, it's about how much your willing to pay for some fun. There isn't any culture in my games and i'm not stupid enough to think so. And no i wouldn't get offended if you called my games childish. I'm 16. And your going to write off what i say because of it. Videogames are just something to do. Cars are just something to drive. After a certain age if you still game regularly your childish. I.E. 25.
Best of luck my young friend. With a closed mind like that, i hope you'll survive in the 21st century. Its going to be hard for you but best of luck. The average age of gamers at the moment is approximately 28 years old, so i guess the average gamer is childish according to you. Dictionary definition of culture "the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic or age group" This car is apart of petrolhead culture and history. And its not all about driving fast :).
@engared If that means the average gamer is 28 years old and childish i will have to COMPLETELY 100% AGREE WITH THAT. I HAVE SEEN SOME RETARDED FUCKING PEOPLE. 90% of the gamers online are at the very least autistic...
Irrelevant? The 20 million dollar pricetag says otherwise. Once again, Mr. Bigot i believe its you who are irrelevant. Its our culture Mr.Bigot and we arent in the minority nor are we irrelavant. You arent interested in history or culture Mr.Bigot, only your version of history and culture. Stay with your books Mr.Bigot, stay in that fantasy world. Oh yeah remember child porn doesnt count as a book, Mr.resident expert on 8 year olds.
Well i guess that you are a neanderthal then if you consider that a box on 4 wheels. I don't see any "box" shape on it at all. Simple men? Ferrari inspires passions on a level you have no grasp of. Everything you have said reeks of elitism. Its our culture, just not yours; and as you obviously arent interested in other people's culture, culture isnt one of your interests. Gucci handbags are great! Just because your wife loves Gucci, does that mean shes simple? Another internet bigot.
Well this Ferrari has both so it should be right up your alley. Culturally relavant in more countries than just italy and historically one of the most beautiful sports cars in all of history. No other marque has inspired passion in more people. Cars are a lifestyle, they are for people who feel that the journey is more important than the destination. If you cant get that, i doubt highly doubt you can get culture. Should change your interests imo.
@snowfan True. But the problem is, you need to find that some one who's interested and have got the finances to pay that kind of cash. That may be about 500 people in the the world, who can actually afford it.
@Per770718 There are maybe 1000 people in California alone that could afford to pay $20 million for anything they wanted.. There are about 1400 billionaires in the world and thousands with worth over $500 million. If we said that anyone with worth over $100 million could afford, or would be willing to pay 20% of their cash to buy something then the number worldwide who "have got the finances" would go into the hundreds of thousands. But again,"It's worth what someone is willing to pay" Cheers
@snowfan its wrong because just cause someone doesnt want to pay that doesnt mean its not worth that, and its right cause if no one wants to pay it someone might settle for less and wont be able to get whats it worth. if that makes sense
@leparditas But you are from Lithuania where nothing is worth nothing - what would you know about wealth - you live in an ex-communist block nothing country - go put some heroin in your arm.

If we said that anyone with worth over $100 million could afford, or would be willing to pay 20% of their cash to buy something then the number worldwide who "have got the finances" would go into the hundreds of thousands. But again,"It's worth what someone is willing to pay" Cheers

@snowfan thats what everyone says. its true to extent but its also not true

@daniel55645 You need to expand on your statement. All you're saying is my statement is true but not true. Where is it not true and why? Thanks.

@snowfan its wrong because just cause someone doesnt want to pay that doesnt mean its not worth that, and its right cause if no one wants to pay it someone might settle for less and wont be able to get whats it worth. if that makes sense

@daniel55645 You're making my head hurt... I'll stick with my original comment...LOL

20 million for a car? What a joke. Even 2 million or 200,000 is a joke.
I hope a bird craps on it, just because it is so rare.

@PigMine It's not a car, it's a piece of artwork with wheels and an engine.
Also, it's worth what people will pay for it, not what you think it's worth.

kinda of odd that now a days if you buy a car the value immediately drops as soon as you take it out of the car dealership
kind of shows you the true quality and appreciation for generations that have past...
