  • Thank you Grandpa you will never be forgotten nor will your 35 years of service.

  • Totally sobbing right now. <3

  • I have been sending Troop boxes over with this as an inspiration from Our Country, and GCS Distributing, since 2001. I love all of our Troops, their Families, our loving Countrymen and Patriots.

May God Always Bless all of them. And may God always Bless GCS for their support of my Dad and All of Our Troops ... Always!

That reminds me ... It is time to send a donation to GCS for all of their work! Love you!

  • To all these brave soldiers I say "well done" you've more than earned your corner in Heaven some day...My dad is a WWII Vet and I am as proud of him as I am of my son and daughter who have also became Military soldiers... Bravo!

  • The first time I heard this song, it sounded like it was composed 100 years ago - when we were an agrarian society. I thought of a young person on a farm, perhaps in Kansas, Nebraska or Iowa who wanted to escape the farm and go out to discover himself . Too bad the images related to these words are of Military Occupiers. SAD, SAD, SAD. Just the opposite of what this song is about...

  • Listening to this song, sang this well. Is as touching as anything can get....I sang this back in 8th grade in Fayetteville Arkansas. This song even then grabbed at my heart because I've traveled since the day I was conceived. It also makes me thing of my family in the military and also how I left my real dad for a better life. This song was not wrote for me or people like me...but its my life story in one song.

  • As magical today as 4 years ago when I first watched. Thank you.

  • such a chilling and beautiful song...

  • Today I watched a video on the Revolutionary war, and how the colonists from each colony came together as one, with barely any training, and defeated the world’s most powerful and victorious army.

Today’s small video clip in history class was a wake up call for me.While we here, are arguing about stupid things..there are thousands of men&women fighting to defend our Bill of Rights. Giving their lives for our country, for our freedoms.

” the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

  • I am singing this at a competition for the armed forces, in honor of my uncle and grandfathers. Thank you all for what you have done.

  • i thank my pawpaw and my cousin, Cameron. pawpaw wuz in the marines and Cameron is serving the NAVY now ;)

  • My choir teach sung this today in class, and i got teary cuz it was so beautiful.

  • im singing this in chorus ;)

  • i searched for this song after reading the looking glass series

  • ‎"Non Sibi Sed Patriae......... Not for self, but for Country"

Someday I will be in the Navy bettering myself and the world. I love my country, my ancestors and those who have died to protect that which we love so much and sometimes take advantage of. Hooyah!

  • this actually made me cry considering the lives lost. This song is about death sadly enough and made me think of all the soldiers that will not return home and see their families again, at least not for a while. But even if a loved one has gone from war or even if they just dies you can never loose faith and as long as you keep them in your heart and your memories they will never disappear. Spread the love and always remember, death is not the last time you will see them.

  • The cost of Freedom is great. Our women and men sacrifice dearly for our nation's safety. I pray that God will direct the paths of our leaders. No matter what the political affiliation the people in charge need to think of the message in this video. Count the cost and make careful decisions based on the reckoning of the lives sacrificed in honor of our wonderful country.

  • This song was written for a woman whose husband died in Afghanistan.

  • @jeb5896 This song is actually an old folk song. We sang it in my high school's choir ;)

  • Thank you John Ringo for leading me to this one.

  • Well I am preparing to leave on my 5 deployment, it is nice to read the comments of support. This is a great video and song. Keep making them, helps to remind people that we are still out there fighting.

  • God Bless America!

  • doin this in choir. hope to get the solo <33

  • I love singing this song in glee club!

  • I remember when this video first came out and saw it on a police forum that I belong to. I was very pleased to learn that BYU performed this. It tears me up each time I hear this song. I thank God my Heavenly Father for my job at AAFES which allows me to serve those who have served us so gallantly.

    Return With Honor!!!

  • reminds me about my friend.

    he got shoot in irak=(

    god bless him

    R.I.P

  • I Love this song ! I can't wait to sing this song at our concert

  • O man, if this song had an orchestra or wind symphony behind it it would be the best song ever. Not even joking

  • this video is one of the many reasons i want to go to the military protect the ones i love and i thot this was sad at first i just lost it at 2.51

  • during my freshman year of high school (2007) we sang this song in our spring concert and used this slide show - it's a beautiful piece and brought tears to everyone's eyes, thank you for posting this.

  • Okay I have a few words to say thank god for America and thank god for the troops and their families people like them help keep this country together and to the people who say that words are not enough well what are we supposed to do have u lost someone have u watched someone get on board a plane with the look of fear in their eyes I would know my uncle is getting ready to go back again if u think that it's not enough for words then try being them for a day no great when I sing this song in Cho

  • The wounds the veterans sustain in the field, not just mentally, are severe. Some are untouched. Some lose it all. But all give something for our country. And how do they get repaid? By a, "Oh, thank you, God bless you." We should be giving them support for what they have done. To all veterans reading this, watching this video, and even you grunts still stuck in the field that have gotten some down time: For what you have done, and what you do, we are going to be behind you 100%. Thank you.

  • Fools. Instead of all of you saying over and over again that you are thankful and god bless you all, how about doing something for the people who have lost their family, their friends, the injured? But all you do is words, no? Those of you who have also lost someone should understand. Words can only help people so far, and then it turns into just mumbling, and then they forget. But the sorrow and anger at how they died lasts forever. Instead of just thanking them, thank them by doing something.

  • @138Zam Why don't you be more specific? Do what??? What can you do for families who have lost loved ones at war....besides be supportive and appreciative for what they've done....whatb they've given....what their loved ones sacrificed? Do what for them? You're the fool. This was a beautiful tribute. May God bless you! "Words are things" (Maya Angelou) Be careful with the words you choose. Do not call someone a fool when they are expressing themselves in a positive and loving manner.

  • I am so thankful to those who see a video like this as something besides glorifying war. My 18 year old Marine son lost his life serving his country and the flag he loved, the flag that draped his casket. This video reminds me that those who put their lives on the line for total strangers are the real heroes in this country. Thank you to the person who put this video together. It is beautiful.

  • That was heart touching when i hear this song it will allways reminde me of those of you how are out defending this county and our freedom.

    God Bless you all

  • I pity those who are not willing to go into harms way to defend their freedom. It's a good thing there are people willing to go on the front line on behalf of those who are too weak to defend themselves and those cowards who just want to make lots of money, have a big houses and lots of cars. Much respect for those military men past and present especially those that have given their lives for keeping us safe...

Much thanks from a Filipino waiting for a Green Card to join the U.S. Marine Corps.

  • @EichEiEmIhEs God Bless you. You are exactly why America is so great. Thank you so much.

  • @tjmjr63 thank you for your kind words. It's a pity i was not born an American. I'd love to be kicking ass right now. But I'm still stuck on the 1st hurdle and thats getting a Green Card. If only getting one would be easier.

  • wow i sang this song when i was in 8th grade choir like 3 years ago damn..

  • I'm in 9th grade choir and we're singing this song. Whenever I sing it, I think of my brother's unit in which four soldiers were killed last week. Thanks for the video and thanks for all men and women who have, are, or will be serving in the armed forces. I know that I will serve, if not for liberty than for the sacrifice others have made.

  • im trying out for the beggining for skool solo lol

  • I LOVE this song and love the video. I sang this song as a duet my junior year of high school.

  • I love it!

  • During my sophomore year of choir, we sang this beautiful song for our veterans day concert. While we were singing, there was a man standing in the audience, and I saw that it was my brother. In full uniform. It's a moment I will always remember, and I'm proud and so lucky to be able to call him my brother.

  • my dad is in this video. A little while after he got home, I was watching this video because my choir sang the song when we were in 8th grade, and my dad saw the picture of him and it was one of the few times I have ever seen him cry.

  • @musicislife94 Awwww! :)

  • its reality and the music adds meaning that its about how soldiers are people and would rather be home with family than away at war

  • One of the best renditions of this song. God Bless all our soldiers. I am proud to stand and say if it were not for them... we would not enjoy the freedoms we have now. All politics aside... soldiers answer the call. They stand on a wall and say. "Tonight, nothing will happen to you... not on my watch." I am alive today because of the pride of our military forces. We should ALL be thankful.

  • Such a great presentation with such a heart felt message. When I first heard this song, it reminded me of a loved of returning home to being with the Lord. I had not thought of it in soldiers returning from battle.

  • Best video tribute to our military, May our soldiers come home safe!

I too will be joining the Armed services as an officer in 2015 a month or two after I graduate from college because I needed financial help.

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I listen to it every night. It was sung by the BYU singers who are AMAZING!

  • @jread1000 ..... I just uploaded a really nice slideshow with this beautiful song as the background with some questions being asked of those who doubt the risk our Vets take. As a Vet myself from the Vietnam Era I dedicate it to ALL Vets.

  • hooah.

  • hey i sang this song for contest in chorus. haha :)

  • @random24601 wow that is cool

  • I love this video my friend sung it as a solo and made me cry. I love YOU IYONNA.

  • a friend forwarded this when son in law was 'over there', never cried so much as i did sharing this with friends and family, and daughter. bought the CD. God Bless the men and women who serve the U S of A!!

  • a friend sent this to me about 4 years ago when son in law was over there. never cried so many times as i did sharing this with family and friends, didn't think i could find it again until i got high speed. anyway, about 4 years ago i bought the CD homeward bound, through my public broadcasting station, listen to it often. soldier is home safe and sound and a retired staff sgt with the 82 airborne. God Bless all men and women serving the U S of A

  • My choir JUST got this song. buts its a straight girls choir. but, this song is probably going to be my favorite to learn how to sing. I just hope we can do this AS GOOD as this choir.

  • hey. great video. plz check out my videos. my greatest one is "faces of fallen heros" plz comment and rate and pass my videos along. i will do the same with ur videos

  • im singing this in my JV Choir and i am positive it wont sound this beautiful but it will hopefully be just as tear jerking

  • there are stupid people just don't see the human side to these men and women. They have families and they have feelings.

So don't forget that they're just as human as everyone else.

In my prayers I ask for the Lord to watch over them as they fufill their duty to their country and people.

  • omg i love this song(: lol

  • Love this song! My solider/ only big brother is gonna be homeward bound this Friday and I can't wait!!! but sadly i'm losing my love to basic/AIT for 6 months :(

  • I'm going to post this on my blog.

  • Beautiful song.

For a better version (in my opinion) go to Homeward Bound James and Donna. It is the longer/better Tabernacle version.

  • To all of the brave men....thank your for your sacrifice. We owe you our freedom.

  • you forgot the brave women too.

  • @ 7 GMcG7 Kinda like in WWI, and WWII when all of Europe and Asia was screaming for us to intervene. You want the help of the United States, you don't get it when its only convenient for you, you get it when its in our best interest.

  • i luv this song!!!!

    im singing it for chorus!

  • me too but my teacher makes it boring

  • goosebumps everywhere when i listened to this...

  • I'm singing this for a choir contest, and I feel even better about it now. :)

  • girls in my choir class are too

  • @emdog56 MEE TOOO. =D

  • Even though i believe war is never the answer for anything and dont agree with what they are doing, i strongly support our troops for giving there lives for us. Also i hope ever single one of them returns safely to thier friends and family

  • @triluve

We tried that, then 9/11 happened... or did you forget that part?

  • @exile907 well it wouldn't of happened if America wasn't over in the middle east, instead of just minding their own business.

  • um... To what are you referring? we went to the middle east because they flew planes into our buildings. Before that the only reason we were there was to get iraq out of kewait, at kewaits request for help i might ad.. at that point it became our concern. It would have happened, because it did.. and it happened because they hate us.. and everything we stand for.. and i hope we kill every single one of them before we let them try for another 9/11 style attack.

  • @7GMcG7 omigod not another "it's america's fault" lunatic. Bin laden crashed those planes into NYC at a time when america was the greatest contributor of foreign aid to afghanistan. Maybe we should just mind our own business, stop building cities, towns, bridges, sending food, aid, medicine, and keeping the middle east alive. I think that's actually a good idea. We'll see how long it takes for them to beg us to come back

  • I see no way in which this video glorifies war and death. It glorifies the bravery of all the men and women who put their life on the line day after day to protect our safety and the safety of others. Glorify their bravery it should. I consider myself in complete disagreement with the nature of this war but can't help admiring our armed services. I can't help but cry every time I watch this video or even listen to the song, a perfect tribute.

  • Thank you for your service and your sacrifice.

  • All of you in our Country's service....

    God bless you.

    Thank you.

    Return home safely.

  • Hey Thistownnotme....

The VERY REASON you are free enough to make such an ingnorant comment is because of brave men like these who have gone out and KILLED evil men who would ENSLAVE naive people like you.

  • every time i see this video i get chills and can't help from tearing up. this is by far one of my favorite tribute videos i've seen.

  • All of you young men who volunteer to go into combat to ensure the freedom of this country....thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

You are the greatest among us.

For a different (Better in my opinion) version of this song, try Homeward Bound James and Donna. This is the longer, Mormon Tabernacle version.

  • jrb51055,

How excited I am for you. Regardless of how we feel about this war, a soldier is coming home. THIS, in and of itself, is something to rejoice. I will NEVER forget the feeling, as long as I live. Please hug your Matt, for this family, and please.....thank him!

  • No one is "glorifying war" in this tribute. Part of "protecting our borders" is fighting abroad so as not to bring the war into your backyard. America has been blessed by God & has achieved peace through her strength. It is honorable to help those who are oppressed and give them the same chance for freedom. Don't tell our soldiers' families that these pictures are "glorifying" war. They know better. Stop ur drivel & be thankful for their sacrifice which gives u the right to ur next breath.

  • @OvertlyRevolutionary Dude, are you serious? What exactly do you think what your saying is? It's propaganda for a retarded belief that only crazy people that don't know the story believe in. Don't preach to me about the idea of peace, no nation was ever created by peace, no great nation ever existed in the world by peace. War sucks, yes. But it is a necessary thing to maintain order and structure.

  • you are an idiot, there is no glory in war. This is real life buddy not some fairytale movie. My brother will be over there come next week fighting for us and OUR country. This is the reality of what he will be going through, it ain't all rainbows and butterflies now deal with it.

  • @OvertlyRevolutionary we can have a revolution but what happens when we change and no one else in the world does? what happens when someone disagrees with our new change and we have nobody to protect us? revolution needs to happen worldwide, not just in our own country. it needs to happen in the countries that have mass genocides and the people who still believe in dictatorships. it is a worldwide change. and it will probably never happen. so be thankful for the people who serve and protect.

  • Also in countries who use their children as soldiers. Don't forget those countries.

  • Im Canadian, but God bless the American troops fighting for us all

  • I sang this in a ensemble in High School. My friend, who is now in the army, was in it with me. This song now makes me sad but it's beautiful.

  • I thought this was gonna be a video of Sully Erna's Until Then Military tribute song, which incidentally is beautiful, you guys should check it out. This is a nice video none-the-less.

  • we sang this when i was in chorus back in 8th grade

  • Our school played this video to the Veteran's at our Veteran's Day Assembly! Our choir sang the song with the video it was great!

Thanks to all those who've served and are serving now!

    GREAT VIDEO!

  • One of the most beautiful renditions I've ever heard. Truly amazing.

  • This video plays a part in "Manxome Foe" by John Ringo. A girl sends the sentiment to her boyfriend - a Marine deployed very, VERY far from home!

"Love you miss you Be Homeward Bound In Time Brooke".

Eric looks it up and replies "In the quiet misty morning".

  • my choir class is going to be singing this song ;D and i love this song.

  • my name is guardsmans girl that it will be forever , my fiancee goes goes on 4th oct 09 for 6 half months ... i no he will be safe i no his battalion will be safe .. nulli secundus boys xxxxx

  • I remember that helicopter crash in 2005. My heart is grateful to the family of Sean Kelley. That was the same year my grandson, Chris enlisted. I'll never forget the day he came home and asked me for his birth certificate. I said, "Chris, please tell me why." He said to me, "Grandma, I'm trying to make a man's decision." He was only 18. And that he did, he made a man's decision. And I have never been so proud of anything in my entire life, than him, at that moment.

  • WE sang this song in honor choir and we used this vid too.

  • I cry as I write this, so beautiful!

  • Great video, and an awesome sound track.

From a Proud US Navy Veteran

  • To a PROTECTOR, Fair winds and Following seas as you move on through life! Thank you for your service...from one of the PROTECTED

  • When my grandson Chris was deployed to Iraq for 15 months, this video made me feel closer to his world. It comforted me in ways I cannot explain. And it made me so very grateful for his love. And he is HOME.

  • Tell Chris...Thank you for our service! From a grateful American

  • ....and thank you for your appreciation for what my grandson was privileged to do for his country. I will thank God, for the rest of my life, for sending him home to us safely. He's a better man, for the experience.

  • dcrose...your grandson has made us better for his service. My husband is a USMC 'Nam vet...and was not given welcome home for his service. Not until he rejoined the Navy Res. as a nurse and deployed to Desert Storm. He still serves. The day his plane landed in Kuwait for his 2005 (1/26) deployment was the day 31 Marines died in a helio crash...one (Sean Kelley) was from our hometown. Non sibi sed patriae...not for self, but country

  • When I was in high school, there was a group of us that would prepare care packages, that were sent to our troops in Viet Nam. There was such my pride in my heart doing it, and what a sacrifice our soldiers made then. PLEASE, thank your husband for me, for HIS service. I'd like to think that maybe, he got one of our care packages, lovingly sent to some very brave men that we admired so very much. It was a hard time to be in the military then. We live and learn.

  • dcrose, I will tell him of your efforts...Thank you.

Gratefully, yes, we are learning. I have been to the airport in Atlanta, and stood among the throngs that rise to applaud our servicemen and women as they pass. I have sent a letter of thanks to Bangor Airport's greeters who, at 2am one cold night, opened the airport's bar and eating facilities to welcome home my husband and his unit when they returned for Iraq/Kuwait. I was grateful that there were Americans there to welcome him home.

  • dcrose, i will pray for your grandson, and EVERY other member of our Armed Services, may they ALL COME HOME!!!!!

My Son is doing 2nd tour in Iraq, Its tough on us parents too...

Be Safe Matt!!! See you in Dec!!!!.

    dad

  • My prayers are with your wonderful son, Matt. Please wish him well, when he returns to you, and thank him......from one military family to another. And thank you for your kind words.

  • This is for you "jrb51055." Sorry I didn't address you directly. Yes.....it's tough on us parents...........I hope your Matt gets the homecoming he deserves, after two tours. Please tell him how grateful this family is, for his service to our country. Nothing like the men in our Armed Services.

  • it will be my HONOR to show him these comments. and thank you so very much for the support. and the kind words.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

    JRB

  • 13 more HOURS, We should be hearing from him tommorow sometime in the ATL.. then 40 min. hop to jax.. i'm cryin already!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • where can i just buy the song?

  • I support the troops, not the war

    make out, not war <3

i pray for all the war vets and troops

  • See the LDS church does care about our soldiers and we pray for them as well for everyone else in our lives.

  • the most strongest army built with the money of all the world.

  • Great video guys. Thanks from a Iraq vet.

  • I'm proud to support our fighting soldiers!

Hats off to those who give so much to keep this land free from those who wish to harm it.

  • i am so proud to be American and more proud because of every single one of our military...I pray everyday for their safety and homecoming.... I know, unfortunately but I will always be proud, never bitter, but it still hurts!!!! God bless America!!!

  • Thanks for keep us safe!

  • Awesome video :-D

    -Proud Army Girlfriend

  • Though I appeared strong, many times I'd sit alone and cry for my son. My heart aching for him to come home. Now he's home and I still cry, for I know the heartache of the troops and families yet to be reunited. Such a beautiful, heartfelt song and video. Thank you for supporting our troops.

  • I do hope that they are homeward bound someday.

In my seminary class I've heard allot of girls sing this song and it is beautiful.

  • Just a note to all military - I (we) are thinking about you this Independence holiday in America. May you all be safe. Until then...

  • It Is Sober.. Good Job!

  • When my son was in Iraq I would watch this and absolutely sob....Now that he is home, safe and sound.....I still sob.......for those still there, and for those that will never come home.......

    A very Proud Army Mom.......

  • I do hope our soldiers come home soon. Other than that they perfrom a great job doing what they do best and that is keep this great land of ours free from those who wish to harm it.

  • I sang this song in choir.. and it sounded super close to this. Any who. I love this tribute, I couldn't of have done it better myself.

  • To everyone posting anti-military and anti-government comments, this is to you:

"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

  • If you do not understand the correlation between Americans and government fascism, then you evidently are the odd person.

This is no longer the Republic we used to know and hasn't been for a long time. That being the whole point.

Btw, What Freedom we still have is WHY I can "say" things people such as yourself do not like.

You prove my point fellow "Amerikan".

You likely oppose peace as well, not to mention free speech. For shame.

  • What is totally astounding is the fact that most people do not associate the "NWO", or, the Anglo-American Order with anything. Amerikans have a problem with recent history. Endless wars, torture, rape, and fools gold; funny how peace is never the prospect for this, or any country.

  • AmeriKans? You are an odd person. Please don't say things like that here.

  • Beautiful. I only wish all those in Iraq & Afghanistan would realize they are fighting & dying for the sick purposes of the NWO. It was different when I was in the military - It was mostly peace time. My heart goes out to those who are ignorant of the NWO & their families. We were not put here to die for their empire or for their notions of eugenics. The armed forces are supposed to defend Americans - on American soil. I grieve for the uninformed & their loved ones. May God bless them all.

  • thank you mormon tabernacle choir.. so beautiful

  • It's actually the Brigham Young Singers (BYU Singers) . . . :) I agree it is beautiful. You can hear more of them at BYUmusic website

  • O that's great. They are like the tabernacle choir. I am from BYU-Hawaii. I am proud of the students from the Lord's school. They are the future motab singers. thank you for letting me know about that.

  • Pretty Close. Both Are Great. Awesome Vid Btw.

  • I hope everyone had a enjoyable and safe Memorial Day weekend. I had to stand the watch (i.e. work) the entire weekend, but that's OK. I know that it could have been a lot worse for me. At least I'm on shore duty and not sea duty. I also hope that everyone took some quiet time to remember those who have gone before us in the fight for freedom. As one very wise person said, "Freedom is never free."

  • this Memorial Day weekend when we are barbque-ing, going to the beach andspending time with friends and familly, please take a moment and think of those who have layed their lives upon the altar of freedom for our nation......thank you,...........A proud Veteran

  • omg

    chills

  • hello GracetoHope. do you believe it is righteous to defend something you believe to be sacred? How do you make peace with someone unwilling to accept peace? obviously to let them continue in warlike offense towards yourself is not 'following' peace. Anyhow, i understand where you're coming and hope you're never brought to a painful moral dilemma like choosing the wicked, homicidal rapist or your virgin daughter for life.

  • Mormon here. I can't necessarily speak for all Mormons, I'm sure there are a wide variety of views on this. But I think generally speaking Mormons believe it is a duty to fight for righteous values. To fight for the freedom of our families, and our religion, when there is a force threatening to take those away.

  • Sounds like someone is enjoying their Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, and Freedom from Fear, . . . and should be thanking brave Christians who fight for that right.

  • Doesn't the bible also have stories of war victories of David and many others with God's help. God bless our troops.

  • Not LDS nor a Greek scholar, but it was explained to me that the better translation of "thou shall not kill" is "though shall not murder," and in the Western--read Judeo-Christian--tradition, soldiers killing the ememy is regarded differently than murder. You also must be careful to not cherrypick verses from the Bible. Finally, remember that even Jesus threw the moneychangers from His Father's house by force. Finally, if you don't see a need for military, go live where ours won't protect you.

  • In answer to GRACEtoHOPE Mormons don't agree with killing by any means. But we are strong believers of defending family/religion. Along the lines of war in general we're not just going to stand by while for example the Iraqian's bomb New York. It's not that we're out to kill people, it's more that we're defending ourselves/country. We don't go out and kill people for the heck of it, there's got to be a valid reason behind it.

  • Amen Brother. Atheists and Monday-Morning Quarterbacks always conveniently cherry-pick scriptures to make themselves look smart. Well said. "If you don't want to stand behind our soldiers, feel free to stand in front of them."
