They all worked at a radio station and got paid different wages. It's none of Howard's business what Jackie earns. It wasn't Howard's responsibility to try to muscle management into paying Jackie more money. Jackie's a grown man. He made the decision to leave the show, because he thought he wasn't being paid enough, good for him. Unfortunately, he realized his mistake weeks later. He tried to get his job back, but Howard and the rest of the show moved on, and so should you.
Freahley100. How the fuck can u give Jack the credit for the stern show being funny ?
The only thing Jacky did was a fake ass laugh. And let Howard make fun of his fucked up drunk life. Artie was not the best comedian in da world but by far betterthan hacky that stole every bad joke in the book.
If u disagree with me just look up a Jacky bit on utube and count how manny times u laugh. Ps. U won't need a pen and paper
Jackie could easily take Arties job at any time. Jackie made that show..and Howard knows it. Howards ratings AREN'T as good as he claims, because the show genuinely isnt funny. This bit here for example..they still need Jackie (who wasnt there) to get laughs.
Finally, a comment from someone with a brain. Although I don't care for comparisons between Jackie and Artie, (IMO, irrelevant) I, wholeheartedly, agree with your assertion that Stern's show lacks any comedic edge without Jackie.
Jackie wasn't funny. Howard RIPPING on Jackie was funny.
Howard never claimed to be a comedian or say his show was a comedy show. In his own words he does a "stream of conciousness" radio show.
And ratings ? As soon as Howard signed with Sirius their subscriptions shot up like 300% ! Satellite radio was on the verge of DYING before he came to it. Get real.
@frehley100 you are wrong howard has spoken about this several time and each time he siad he has committments to the new people that he will not break.
@frehley100 you must be wacko or this is a really old post from more than 5 years ago. howard IS NOT JUDGED via ratings now he is judged by SUBSCRIBERS of which he has millions. if howard was not on sirius - siruius would probably loose half of their subscribers or more
I never really cared for the show as much after Jackie left. Nothing made me laugh harder than hearing one of Jackie's many laughs in the background, the circus Jackie music, or the cast making fun of something foolish Jackie did. I could listen for hours. Now I listen for minutes. As they said back in the day, F Jackie!!!! Oooo Who Who!!!! Oh Oh.
The beauty of the old show was not the fact that Jackie is funnier than Artie (he's not) , but that he always had that seething resentment toward Howard. Artie is great and all, but the friction made for great radio. Howard won't say shit to Artie when he fucks up...
I'd say Jackie is funnier as a comedic writer and hilarious with off the cuff jokes. Especially his material he wrote for Billy West for the Jackie puppet. Whereas Artie is funnier as a standup and with his stories. So I'd say Artie is more suited for the mic and Jackie is better suited for the writing and occasional mic time. Totally agree with ya on Artie/Howard situation. Artie never would stand up to Howard like Jackie did. Hence the lack of friction between Artie and Stern.

Jackie is and was an overrated turd. The only highlight of the old shows is the rest of the crew tearing him apart over his legion of shortcomings as a human being. A total hackey, jokey fuckhead who bit the hand that fed him. If we never hear from him again we'll be lucky....
I'll bet anything that during the "Jackie more money" saga, Howard told the company to refuse. I'm pretty sure Howard used the opportunity to let Jackie go.
Robin, as if you were ever a great contributor to the show. Her role was always circumstantial and situational. There is not a funny bone in that broads' body......
They bash Jackie, but here are the facts... Jackie used to pass Howard notes with jokes on them, during the show. Howard got the credit for Jackie's creativeness. At the time of Jackie's contract breakdown, Stern was making somewhere between 17-20 million dollars per year. Jackie was offered $800,000but held out for ONE million.(a reasonable demand) Jackie could have been afforded, by the station, if Stern wasn't so greedy. It's true, Jew boy had to have "all the marbles" for himself.
Even if they would not pay him, he should have stayed. He had a lot of other streams of income from that show. Now, he is no longer relevant. Artie is doing all those big gigs now. I like Artie but it seems he is on a death wish.
Jackie was over 50 years old, at the time. He had already paid his dues; why should he have to get a part time job? Afterall, his creative force is obvious, (and sorely missed) now that he's gone. Stern's extent of humor begins and ends with silicone breast whores and lesbians. Jackie brought the more mature, thought provoking and, therefore, longlasting type of humor. Not all Jews are bad, but sterotypes exist for reasons. And Howard Stern is all about the money.
The stereotype to which you refer exists because for centuries (nay, millenia) Jews have been marginalized and forced to accept the occupations others didn't want (like moneylending, often illegal for Christians, in the old days)
Money lending and greedily hoarding, for oneself, are two distinctly different subjects. In my opinion, Jews suffer from the same insecurities as African Americans, in that they often refuse and or refrain from denouncing the bad individuals amongst themselves. This failure of inaction, ultimately, leads outsiders to believe "they're all like that".
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Dear Smartass, The station had a budget, say for instance, 25 million for the entire cast of characters, of the show. If Howard demanded 80% of that figure, obviously, there's less to go around for all the others. If Jewboy wasn't so greedy, the station could have afforded to pay Jackie what he wanted.(which was 1/20th of what Jewboy was making)
Wow, I didn't realize you conspiracy "the Jews own everything" nuts still existed. Certainly you realize there are fewer and fewer of you crackpots around right?
So anyway, I suppose I should wish you luck in maturing to the point that you realize all the problems you have are of your own doing, and not the fault of an entire race of people, a race you believe run around in the shadows trying to mess your life up so grow up, be a man, and think clearly from now on, okay Wacko
Calm down and gather your thoughts before writing; for, you are the nonsensical party. 1) You asserted "Jews own everything" ; I did not. 2) I did not complain of any problem. I simply pointed out many Jews are greedy , selfish, and unscrupulous, when it comes to financial matters. I have not pre-judged in that assertion. It comes from personal experiences with Jews. 3) Jewism is not a race, it is a religion. 4) No "conspiracies " nor falsehoods coming from this camp, simply facts. Good day.
Let me make sure I am following you, be patient, I am not your doctor or the person who prescribes your meds;
So as you see it, the one who has had a couple of experiences with folks, who might have been Jewish, and then makes a generalization about all the rest of the Jews, is the one who is "sensible" and has a firm grasp of "the facts"?
Look, you probably got fired from your job for a good reason, meth, tardiness, who knows? Just be a man and own it! And stop whining about Jews

@hernje It does seem that Howard's entire career was a lead up to getting $500 million from Sirius and marrying the younger blonde and weekending in the Hamptons.
The fact that the show was genius at one point (w/Billy & Jackie)
@wheelinthesky300 -Agreed. Billy West is very talented and so was Jackie and even Stuttering John. Those years (during the OJ trial and right after) were the funniest.
@wheelinthesky300 - I not sure if John had/has talent. Remember how they would send him out to ask question they wrote to celebrities? That was great! John was great because of the studder. He used to show up at important press conferences (Jennifer Flowers) or at one of Burt Reynolds book signings. "Are they drooping yet?" to Rachel Welch. But the best was when John used to ask celebrities - "what is it that you do that makes you famous?" Classic.
I think that the two comedians who have been sidekicks on Stern are two different people entirely.Jackie was more of a whipping boy and, great writer contributing to the show.Artie is more real than Jackie with (I think)a bit of a quicker wit.I love Artie but, I confess that I laugh out loud more listening to Jackie. The funniest thing for me is when Fred and Howard turn on the Jackie voice and start berating him mercilessly.Thank you so much for posting this.A real trip down memory lane for me.
Jackie was the head writer and made Stern funnier. Artie only has to tell funny stories and do his own thing. Artie is better on air (not Jackie's strength), but I always found Jackie more fun and silly and Howard was MUCH funnier IMO with Jackie.
Your out of your tree, artie kicks jackies ass. arties stories are great and his quick thinking comments are intellegent. He is what makes the show great
I've gotta agree with you, beanxxx. I've never laughed harder than at Artie's "Babe the Pig" coke story. When he talked about finding the shitty coked out diareah in his motel bed and compared it to that scene from the Godfather? Priceless.
jackie rules, artie sucks unfunny and unpleasant to look at artie is boring and contributes nothing to the show, whats artie angle hes cool cause he drinks and and falls asleep, sort of what i do when i hear his sob stories and his lame ass act
I love Artie but the show hasn't been as funny since he left. The thing I would like to see to keep Artie and bring in Jackie as a writer. Keep Benji if they want too.
I remember when Artie left the show recently, Jackie left a message saying that he'd be glad to "fill in" for Artie until he got better. I'm sure he's still itching to come back. F Jackie
I would welcome back Jackie anytime. The show was so much better with Jackie and Billy West. F Artie the fat junkie who cries about his life everyday to listners with real jobs. F Artie!
F Jackie, indeed! watch jackie's face on any given channel 9 show. he's always got a fake smile on his face. his mouth is smiling but his eyes are dark and calculating looking.
They should bring back Jackie and return to this kind of radio again. I didnt even know Artie was in this clip till almost 5 minutes in. The show was just so funny when they goofed on each other

@hernje I think those are accurate numbers,
and Jackie had every right to ask for $1 million.
Why, I wonder, did Jackie not get a gig on another radio show?

@hernje whoops... 39....

Jackie was funny. Artie sucks!
phillydog17 3 years ago 2
Jackie made Howard funnier because Jackie is so easy to goof on, he was endless fodder!
Artie is MUCH funnier than Jackie, and he doesn't need Howard, he makes fun of himself just fine

Jackie is the "David Caruso" of radio!

I miss Jackie but Artie is the shit

Jackie was the head writer and made Stern funnier. Artie only has to tell funny stories and do his own thing. Artie is better on air (not Jackie's strength), but I always found Jackie more fun and silly and Howard was MUCH funnier IMO with Jackie.

Artie kicks Jackies ass. In fact artie is the funniest on the show
beanxxxx 3 years ago
Once Jackie left the show started to suck.Artie is an unfunny hack loser that falls asleep and tells shitty stories.
Sureshot82 3 years ago
Your out of your tree, artie kicks jackies ass. arties stories are great and his quick thinking comments are intellegent. He is what makes the show great
beanxxxx 3 years ago 3
I've gotta agree with you, beanxxx. I've never laughed harder than at Artie's "Babe the Pig" coke story. When he talked about finding the shitty coked out diareah in his motel bed and compared it to that scene from the Godfather? Priceless.
seanoshomegrownflix 3 years ago 5
@seanoshomegrownflix I've heard that story, and there is no humor to it.
It is just a cokehead story.

jackie rules, artie sucks unfunny and unpleasant to look at artie is boring and contributes nothing to the show, whats artie angle hes cool cause he drinks and and falls asleep, sort of what i do when i hear his sob stories and his lame ass act

F Artie!
leeweaz 3 years ago
Yeah.... Billy West was fucking brilliant. His Marge Schott was the best, wish he'd come back
mnkycmkydu 3 years ago 2
@mnkycmkydu He won't come back.
He is the most successful cartoon voice of his generation,
he is earning millions of dollars,
why wake up early for a relatively low-paying radio gig?
Stern had his chance to retain Billy, and he blew it.
Billy took 20% of the Stern Show laughs with him,
Jackie took another 20%.
