  • @willymywonka It takes VERY little money to wake up an LT1. I went from 14.4 to 13.2 for under $1000 in a 95 Z28 Convertible. LT's, Tune, 1.6 RR, CAI, and Catback and you've got one hell of a rocket on your hands. Pop in a Stall and I SHOULD be able to just slide under 13.

    I only have 4.10 gears, ebay longtubes, pa racing k member, and a zex 125 wet shot and my car beats everything around here. I've spent less than 5,000 dollars total on my car too lol. Including the price of the vehicle.

  • @Texarmageddon well theres a guy on here with a bolt on 2v mustang gt, its the PI version and withe slick, full bolt ons, and gears he runs low 12's its all in combination, and driver. yet the lt1 and ls platforms are really fucking mean dude, just sold my 2v and bought a 1995 trans am lt1, its got a 3600 stall, cc306 cam, long tunes, 4.11 gears, and full exhaust its way faster than my HCI foxbody, this is why i got one.simple shit and it would smoke my old fox man

  • @sjh200765 lets look real quick.. not a ford fan but there is a reason for lack of power stock... Ford mustang - 4.6l v8 - 260 hp. chevy 5.7l (lt1)- 275 hp chevy 6.0l (ls2) - 400hp. If you see the trend.. smaller motor = smaller power.. bigger motor = bigger power.. but the difference between the 5.7 and 4.6 is pretty close. Thats the only reason i ever give ford props.. small engines, decent power.

  • @turbonegro1120 I was thinking maybe it had gears also, he was going through the gears fairly quick. One thing to remember is that the exhaust/shorty combo really helps the LT1 breathe on the highend (yes, even if they're shortys). So im not really suprised at the results.

  • @circlelt1 yeah but the GTO's arent slow at all, little surprising to see an lt1 walk him like that, im a mustang fan but i have to admit i love GM's big displacement engines because like you said on a 5.7l headers/intake does a hell of alot more than it does to a 4.6l engine. mustang is cheaper to mod but you get a hell of alot more outta the motor when its bigger, no replacement for displacement ;)

  • @turbonegro1120 Amen to that bro. I found out an LS2 gto can trap 106-108 stock. Most lt1s would need either full bolt-ons or some type of top-end work to hit that. My LT1/A4 when it had just I/H/E at 3160lbs did a 105 trap on the stock 2.73s. After holley tb/heads w 1.6rr/3.73s and 3100lbs w/o driver im at about 109-110, although havent ran it since to confirm, but thats the butt-dyno. So i could pull an LS2 but ive got more than what it says this one has, so idk. Mysteries....

  • @turbonegro1120 Yeah about 111, i havent had the chance to run a new SS yet. But im nearly 1000lbs lighter than them, currently sitting at 3100 even with full tank. Once i put in the new aluminum radiator i got (still using stock one) i should finally be in the 30xx's :D Only, if i hit a 111 trap it'll be a lot faster than a 13 flat ftw. And im still on the stock cam, that'll be the next thing to change this next winter i think.

Check this months issue of GMHTP. a 355ci TT LT1 making over 850hp without any serious changes. Still using the 23 degree heads, stock pcm, things like that. The ZR1 is only making 638 and it's a supercharged 381ci LS series engine.

  • Not according the the tests that have been done online. The Hennessy Camaro runs a 12.2 with poor traction and the GT500 runs 12.6-12.9 with poor traction.

    The Hennessy I've seen tested dyno'd 560rwhp. The GT500 doesn't make that much power to the crank so no exhaust only won't equalize the two cars.

  • It's actually underrated a little bit. And a normal LT1 Fbody will typically put down anywhere from 240-260, depending on whether it's a manual, or an auto. Also depends a lot on how well it's been maintained. With just intake, headers, full exhaust, and a tune, they will put down right around 300rwhp. And with full bolt-ons, there's quite a few in the 315-325rwhp area, with 33x being the record.

  • Well the mustang driver sucked then. I beat an LS1 convertible at the strip in my '08 GT. I have tune/cai, and borla mufflers, he had catback/lid. I ran 13.44 he ran 13.79. Both on manual trans onstreet tires. My car is capable of 12's w/ slicks and better launch. So how is that overrated?

  • With full exhaust you could possibly take a stock 05-06 Goat in your LT1. Just depends on the driver. I saw a guy take his stock '06GTO to a 12.9@109...so the potential is there for 12-second E.T.'s in completely stock trim.

    there is a reason they aren't made anymore, look at GM's performance lineup and what do you see?

    LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6, LS7, LS9

    there is a reason all of your modern GM motors have "LS" in front of them now, and it isn't because they are worse than the LT series, sure you can still mod an LT1 to outperform anything, but heatsoaked intakes and failing optispark gets old after awhile... just like the LT1 did

  • Where did you get the theory that LT1's suffer from heatsoaked intakes? That has to be one of the most erroneous claims i've heard in a long while.

    And while the LTx is now old news, so will the LSx series motor in the years to come...when GM starts putting in their forced-induction motors due up in the 5th generation Camaro's. Imagine what you will be able to do w/ just a pulley swap. That is going to make the LSx series engines irrelevant. No disrespect intended.

  • LT1's are indeed a big victim of heatsoak... there is a reason GM shyed away from those big ugly aluminum intakes

    I've been to the track enough to know how applications take to hot laps

    and even though GM is starting to incorperate forced induction, it's still forced incuction on an LSX motor, thus far anyways... the ZR1's/CTS-V's FI engines are called what? EXACTLY

    not to mention the new camaro's high performance model will be getting the LS9 powerplant just like the ZR1

    by the time the LSX motor becomes obsolete the muscle car war era will be over in the era and it will be the 1970's-1980's all over again

  • An LT1...as well as an LS1, L98, L89...or virtually any small block Chevy will suffer from heatsoak if driven hard in warm climate. That's just common sense genious. The LS1's aluminum block does not absorb heat as well as an LTx block for that matter.

    I've owned LT1's LS1's mustangs and cars with tiny british 3.9L V8's in them... the LT1 has potential, but not as depicted in this video and not modded like that

    I had an A4 with drag radials and a CAI... best of 14.0 @ 99MPH

    3.73's, built tranny, moser rear, 3200 stall, and a set of LT headers into flows later and I'm running a best of 13.4 @ 100MPH

    I've actually owned both cars in question, you obviously havn't lol

    and anyone that knows anything about cars a geared and stalled GM with DR's is the best of the best your going to get as far as driveline components

    now please, try and come back with even a little nugget of valid information. looking at your video's I can see you have none coming from the experience bank. just a bittersweet taste in you mouth as to how the LSX motor hit the scene and everyone forgot about the LTX, including me
