  • idk. I am still trying to decide between the two. I wish they could have tested two cars that were a little further apart in specs.

  • my life sucks -_-

  • new youtube SUX!!!

  • You could put the 263hp Mondeo engine from the Caterham back in a Mondeo.

  • pff...cateham jaką lekką budę ma i moc to się nie dziwię, a mondeo waży z 1300 KG.

  • @pomidorowa00 1300? moje mk2 waży 1420, to mk4 na pewno nie mniej niż 1500 :)

  • yeah caterham is an amazing car for that money but the quastion is are u talented enough to drive one? its undriveble.

  • I would drive one... but i would die... verry verry painfully

  • Sunnies work fine. You do need a helmet in the rain, but nobody drives them in the rain. :)

  • i prefer the old r500...

  • @EVERLIVERPOOL I prefer the JPE

  • @shawn963741

    i prefer JPS

  • I want a Caterham!!!!!!

  • the caterham is actually faster than the vayron as tested by top gear lol

  • why not the 2.5 litre petrol engine from the mondeo?

  • is this journalism?

  • @poskyflyer carerham I'd 400-600 kg 800-1200lbs depending on model atom is 500kg anyway

  • Is there a car that weight less than a Caterham ?

I'm dreaming about to ride it. Only 1 time :(

  • @veyroPL aerial atom

  • I'd have the 911 if you don't mind :)

  • I hate the mondeo, but adore the caterham. BTW you can get weather kits for caterhams but I'd say they wud be lame, and it makes the car look stupid

  • @richboy900 why u hate the mondeo?i bet if u own both cars u would prefer the mondeo...

  • @EVERLIVERPOOL Nah caterham for me. It is less practical for sure and you'd only buy one as a second car but its more fun to drive than just about anything. I've had bad experiences with fords in the past like breakdowns etc. I'd prob take something like a mazda 3 or sumthing like dat (and yeah I know the 3 is based on the focus lol)

  • 1.15 ... Actually I love getting shot in the face!!!

  • sticker on the new tire(s)

  • "My brain's having trouble keeping up! AHHHHHHH!!" lol

  • If you died right now are you 100% sure you'd go to Heaven?

  • @777AreY0uSure I am 100% sure I don't care.

  • @doubletap85 Really?

  • @777AreY0uSure

    stfu plz

  • @zx6rtt Sprry but no

  • @777AreY0uSure

go spew your religious bullshit somewhere else. Maybe to people who actually care...

  • Caterham R500 is over priced you can get same kit car with a bike engine or even 2. and it will be faster and will sound alot better and will be chepper

  • @kingphil19 Better torque from the Modeo motor? Not that it matters because it weighs stuff all anyway.

  • @kingphil19 Yes CHEPPER. I ugree.

  • The R500 would be the first car I bought if I became rich ! Does anybody know how fast it is form 0-200 km/h?

  • whats that silver stripe on the r500's tire ?

  • @snowleopardism Its a new tire. Just a sticker. They should have broken in the tires so that it gets more grip. Not that it matters in the rain.

  • Porsche* Not Porsh

  • @XxTabasc0xX Ende

  • Mondeo RULZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ :D

  • Mondeo sucks... and C'on, this is not fair! hahahaha...

Caterham R500 can beat a ferrari in 0-60. Its amazing.

  • @sup3rcars a 36,000 pound price tag and performance that is superior to that of the veyron other than top speed is a very nice feature

  • @nickrulez809765 AND it's cheaper to fix too.

  • @sup3rcars no i was just trying to shut u up about ur muscles cuz i cnt stand big headed people

  • @sup3rcars u waz the 1 who started going on about muscles and being big headed about them so ur the 1 that pathetic

  • @sup3rcars i dnt have to say stuff over the net u know ill say it 2 ur face if i knew you and i cud not give a fuck about ur biceps i work out twice a week every week and my muscles are probably twice the size of urs and i do kick boxing so yeh im sure i would be cocky even if u waz stood right next to me

  • @sup3rcars u know wat m8 its a good job i dnt know u cuz i would kick ur fuckin head in so just shut the fuck up and get a life

  • @sup3rcars they aint made for luxurie dickhead their made for handling and their is very little road cars out their that can handle better than them and u must be so sad to spend hours looking on the internet to find out every little detail about the veyron.

  • @sup3rcars u hav no clue cuz most peolpe h8 the look of the future cars thats why no1 buys them stop speakin 2 me nw the caterham is better end of

  • @sup3rcars the bugatti looks shit. its 2 big and bulky and looks like a car from the future. get any short track in the world which has sharp corners and not many long staights and i will bet any money the caterham will win.

  • @sup3rcars the veyron dosent do 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, many people say it does but it does it in about 4 seconds an i would rather look like a geek and have lots of fun that be in a buggati havin no fun

  • Duratecs rule!

  • it does have a wind screen as an optional xtra

  • best car in the world superb handlin and accelaration and i would rather 1 than a bugatti veyron = they are shit handling and shit accelaration the only thing they are good for is top speed and that takes forever to get to

  • @JH05GO1 shit acceleration? c'mon get real... i hate the veyron but i do accept that is a great feat in engineering ....it's ugly and heavy ...but there is nothing that comes close to bringing you that speed combined with comfort and luxury ....the R500 along with the Atom would leave the Veyron around a track with corners and bends.......But!!! i know which one will bring the ladies running.......the one that won't ruffle their hair on a summers day

  • @oddjobjujitsu Actually if you look at the atoms, veyrons and caterhams times around the top gear testtrack you'll find the atom 1.2 sec slower than the veyron, the veyron 0.4 sec slower than the caterham and then theres the veyron ss which is 1.1 sec faster than the caterham and (i cant remember by how much) the new atom 500 is the fastest of the lot.

I'd still have the caterham.. that performance for that money? wow.. :D

  • @emme114 sorry i should have made that clearer with regards to the atom...the atom 500 was the car i was referring to.......the veyron needs all that money and power to go that fast..who is ever going to go over 200 mph? give me the atom or the caterham for the fun any day of the week..o'h unless it's raining lol.... i don't live too far from the caterham factory

  • @emme114

The Keating TKR needs only 1.7 seconds to reach 60!

That is the most brutal supercar of all times!

  • @emme114 The Atom V8 is at the top of the board...

  • @moleylane atom v8=130k

    r500=30k

well the is a lot of diff in price but only 2.8s slower

  • man, I love the mondeo...

  • @MrOldCrow me too!!!!

  • such a stupid review... lets see what a mondeo does against a tuned engine - half the weight?! duh!!!

just noticed around the 1:32 mark at the intake filter... would it cause any issues with the volume of water hitting that... surely after a prolonged driving session it would be pretty damp/ maybe get a drop of water or 2?? Maybe introduce some form of guard to deflect the water over the filter???

  • @Nickamsweet No, many cars use an air intake in the front grill, this has the advantage of delivering cool air to the engine. There isn't enough water in a downpour to bother the engine, the inlet has a drain too, so bulk water doesn't build up.

  • Aye there is a sump usually that has some form of drainage, but usually the intake path is a lot more complex... due to the N/A nature of this engine and with it being tuned I am guessing that it has ITB's, which, as you know, is a direct pathway to the intake of the engine... and since the filter is in the position normally associated with ITB... that's what I was referring to...

It must obviously still not pose a problem, since that's something that would be rectified during the design phase!

  • The drainage is usually slow compared to the quantity of water in the air. Many motorcycles and old cars have no filter or just a mesh screen. F1 cars have no filters and the air intake crams air straight down the inlet horns. The engines just don't mind ingesting a downpour at 200mph.

  • haha cool. cheers for clearing that up for me :)

  • Why would you even bother!

  • is this 5th gear???!!!! cos their shit

  • @l3w15h0y its not 5th gear, its a online magazine called iMotor

  • 5th gear is pretty bad, but i think this is worse..... yeah

  • How emarrassing, I own a Caterham 7 and a Ford Mondeo

  • I'm planning to make my own caterham-style car with 2.0 BMW E36 engine and gearbox. I think 150hp would be good to start with. Original caterham is way too expensive to buy using savings from polish shitty payments.

  • i cant see anyone who drives a rs500 driving a mondeo

  • Lol why would they even compare these cars in a race????

  • probably because they have the same engine....

it's not the best match-up. but at least it makes sense.

  • ha! Caterham still has the sticker on the tire!

  • I wonder how much difference there would be if the engine was left alone in the caterham?

  • Impressive ! I would do a drag race between the R500 with the K series engine and the R500 with the Mondeo engine. Would be quite awesome :D

  • He is going in a strait line and his brain is struggling to keep up? he should put a post it on the inside of his helmet saying 'keep on this line' :)

  • That is a lot better of a deal than a Porsche 911 because you got a family car and a race car for the same or lower price of a sorta race/Family thing.

  • quim

  • you actually can get a roof as an option its not much of a roof but it would keep you dry windscreens r also available as an option but purely for racing purposes youre better of with just a helmet

  • Note to camera man, If you want to get across the concept of how fast the caterham is try and have the Mondeo in shot.

  • Wow

  • to be honest bareley anything can keep up with a caterham 7 especially on a windy road i mean not much can come close to light wieght track day cars like the caterham 7 and ariel atom.

  • british are great at making cars that are absolutely useless in their country

  • Lol! Well, because our roads are so shit we just make track cars. Our car companies don't have the fincial backing aswell, well, apart from Aston Martin!

  • "Because our roads are so shit..." Do you mean in the UK? If you do, I can't actually believe I've just read that comment. We have some of the best drivers' roads in the world!!!

  • Yeas I do mean the UK, and yes we do have a few fantastic roads, but most our roads have hundreds of speed cameras, speed humps, bus lanes or just plain twats filling them up you can't enjoy them.

  • Where do you live and where do you like to drive? I agree that in built up areas etc. there are lots of cameras, and that on main city roads and motorways there's infuriating amount of traffic and appalling drivers, but surely you wouldn't want to drive fast there anyway? I frequently go to places for a good blast where I know there will be no cameras and minimal traffic. And believe me, there are LOTS of places like this, you just have to know where to go. ;-)

  • I live in Kent, in a village called Burham, and some of the roads around there are great, but a friend of mine uses a road in Sevenoaks, but recently the roads are shit as no one does any repairs. I do agree that in some places there are some very good roads, Scotland for instance, but from my experience from at home or travelling I can't have any fun.

  • Well it's better than not making cars at all... (like you guys) lol

  • true, true, but maybe that's not the right choice of words there, you should've said "not as bad as"

  • lol say that to the koreans, i wish they would just stop already.

  • "It'd be like getting shot in the face!"

    Lawlz

  • pointless.

  • emm ,can i have one.

so they gone back to ford engines.

  • The CSR uses the 2.3 litre Duratec. The top versions with 260 bhp. The R500 uses the 2.0 litre with 263 bhp, and weighs less, BUT, the csr has a MUCH stiffer chasis and inboard dampers and springs, which makes it more aerodynamic and handle far better (especially on a bumpy road/track.

  • Aprende antes de te armares.

  • huele a palisa jeje !

  • Doesn't the R500 use a 2.3l engine?

  • the old r500 had a 2.3 rover engine the new one has the 2.0 duratec

  • I think you will find that the original R500 had a Rover 1.8K built by Minister / Powertrain - you're right about the latest one though.

  • my bad im sure the old one had a 2.3 though.

  • Fist R500 was 1.8 Rover K, then 2.0 Rover K, and the new R500 is 2.0 Duratec.

  • I was going to say, I taught they used rover k series engines...

  • @superlightS7 I thought it was the 1.6?

  • That would be the CSR

  • I want one!
