  • how did you use animation controls to the mushroom clouds? i'm looking for that right now.

  • @orlanduce The mushroom is a donut shape, with bones placed around it, each pointing outward. When the bone rotates, it rotates that part of the donut. All the bones' rotations are linked to a master bone, so you only animate one, and the others rotate along. The mesh is distorted using displacement, and Hypervoxels (Lightwave's volumetric solution) are attached to the mesh and given random sizing. When the mesh rotates, the clouds do too.

  • was that blender?

  • @FireForHighr Lightwave

  • noticed you liked visual effects videos and i thought you would also like mine.

    zach

  • @ghostlightdigital what programs did you use to make that nuke i mean in the future i want to make something like this with paintball but i have no clue were to start when it comes to programs

  • @LuckyGameing We currently use Lightwave 3D, which is pretty easy to learn as far as 3D animation software goes. Compositing was done with Shake, though we've switched to using Nuke.

  • So much work for something that still doesnt look real .. could see its fake instantly

  • @TheMyTrance Good thing it's a comedy.

  • can you give us the mushroom cloud / nuke explosion

so we can use it in after effects?

  • movie: pop it

    sequel: bob it

    prequel: twist it

    tv-series: twist it

  • You need more Shaking.

  • That bum is bat fuck nuts

  • I'm familiar w/Lightwave, but when you say "animation controls to make it roll", what specifically are you referring to??

    Thanks, it looked like fun!

  • We used bones that had linked rotations. Spin one, the others spin, that spins the geometry, which spins the attached Hypervoxels. Cheers!

  • @ghostlightdigital -expression driven bones!!! You da man. On a torus yet! I'm kinda surprised there wasn't tearing. Bravo.

  • i knew that mushroom cloud looked familier.... it WAS from 24.

  • 24's nuke was very cool and impressive, so we used their technique for inspiration. Our nuke was, however, created from scratch.

  • That´s a nice nuke composite there. . What camera are you guys using?

  • This video was shot on the Canon XL-2. Canon makes beautiful picture, but they need to jump on the tapeless media bandwagon. Right now we use the RED.

  • wow, this is really educational. thanks for the vid

  • maybe it would help to show the buildings getting destroyed?

  • Yeah, that would've been fun, but we didn't have the time. Also, might not have been as funny seeing buildings destroyed.

  • your mushroomcloud looks fucking sick. so realistic its insane

  • this was sweet! actually you inspired me to try that technique in 3ds max, here is how it turned out. thanks for the tips!

  • Wouldn't it be easier to take a picture of the door, cut it so it fitted whole image, and then use on a 2d plane with the image as a texture, then animate and motion blur it?

  • "and who doesnt wanted to destroy LA"

    xD funny

    and awesome video! =D

  • What 3D program do you use? I have 3DS Max. I need to know how to make a nuke with it.

  • The video show an old program "LightWave" which I wouldn't recommend because we use it in college and it's very bad and uses an old engine. Watch some nuke explosion tutorial for 3DS Max...

  • actually the software is only as good as its user. as you can see it can do some decent effects. the reason why it was "very bad" is because you are "very bad".

  • It wasn't "very bad" it is "very bad". It crashes every 5minutes of your work, and you have to save all your work every time you add simple detail. We had to create a car (which you can see in my videos) and we were given much more time than we would get with 3DS Max or Maya because the lecturer knows that Lightwave crashes a lot, so we needed more time for this car. It's not PCs' fault because it crashes on every PC, even those we use at home but finally we're moving to 3DS Max next year.

  • Lol i work in VFX and have been working in the field for 14 years. I use all software and all software has its problems. again, its up to the user. I rarely have crashes because i know how to avoid them. 3dsmax??? dont make me laugh.

  • also going to school for 3d is a waste of money. lol. but I will let you find that out on your own time. Just remember the following: "Those who cant do... teach."

  • I do it for free lol

Even though I do graphics, I do programming at home... I know what's good what's not... And I'm doing games development course, not the graphics only. Alos, if you wanna talk do so by PM :P

Remember the following: "You can't teach if you can't do" lol

  • How can i have some of those pops??

  • excellent nuke, and cool info about HDRI

  • Very Cool! But wouldn't the nuke destroy LA? and leave some damage? 5*

  • Yeah but damage is hard and I'm tired.

  • i live in l.a and dats offensive

  • Nukes are funny.

  • good work guys

  • ROFL....nice one~

  • Cool!!!!

  • Very impressive! You guys do excellent work!

  • wow, thats pretty neat

  • That's a really simple way of get a nice looking mushroom cloud. Congrats!!!

  • Great ! Very interesting ! I'll go visit your web site too !

  • Very cool!

Congratulations!! I go to visit your web site!

  • Nice!!!

  • So much detail,..genius

  • This is a great "somekind of Tutorial" - I've constructing a Nuke by myself right now, and found a similiar Solution like yours... it's great to see others have allready tested this successfully :)

  • BAMF

  • awesome!
