  • I own both of these cars, as well as a BMW M5 e39, a BMW e30, and others. I've been trying to "thin the herd" and contemplated selling my VR4 (due to being too tall, hence ergonomics feel weird) but can't force myself to do it. The weight and the ergonomics are the only drawbacks to this car. I consider it among one of the best Japan created, along side the NSX, the Supra, the Z, and RX7. It feels more like a luxury euro-sports car than tuner due to twin 6 not a 4 cylinder, and the body shape.

  • It's an R33. R33 is the fatter looking one than the R32.

    BTW. The GTO MR performed about the same as the R33, and faster than the Supra, because of weight reduction (200 lbs), too bad we have to get the Heavier VR4 in the US and they kept the lighter, faster version.

  • i cant tell, is this a R32 or a R33. they look so similar lol, so plz only reply if u know for fact. BTW the 3000gt is the MR version which is the slower version but more agile and track ready.

  • @RustyShacklefeird The MR version was the Mitsubishi Racing edition which was not the slower version but it was the more agile and track ready version with the creature comforts left out like cruise control active aero and exhaust and no 4WS to save weight. the MR is Mitsubishi's equivalent to Nissan's GT-R. Allot or research and development went into these fine vehicles :D

  • @Miz300zx Engine for Engine the standered Twin Turbo is faster, not by much, but since they took alot of weight off the MR its probably about the same speed as the normal 3000GT. thxs for the info and yeah they really did go All out with these cars :)

  • In my opinion Mitsubishi should revive the VR-4 / 3000 GT with a succesor. All we have seen the past 10 years have been new Evo's but its time for a comeback of the 3K GT.

    In fact, now that the gentlemannes agreement of 286 hp is lifted, they could build a true supercar just like the Nissan GT-R or the Lexus LFA.

  • i love my 3kgt performance looks and comfort. it has it's flaws JUST LIKE ANY OTHER CAR but over all it starts every morning and I am happy im not driving a little ricer car.

  • 3000GT was a very nice car, but the parts were very expensive, in Holland though. That and some electrical problems with the four-wheelsteering and shockabsorbers, made the car really expensive. I went for the Supra instead, back then.

  • @PhantomR32 Haven't had many problems out of my 93 3000gt SL.. lost the trans from driving it too hard (automatic).. and an some random little problems from it being old/ having sat for several years before i got it. Like needing a tune up once it hit 85k (as in just replacing spark plugs).. other than that.. it hasn't let me down yet..

  • @MakingMoneyCV All the years are the same I actually found out, I thought there were different years but no, just different models. And good idea goin with a vr4 instead of a skyline, although skyline are fast as shit, its hard to get parts. You can pritty much just order parts for a dodge stealth r/t and they will fit perfectly due to the fact that they are the same engine and the stealth parts are cheaper. I know makes no sense but its generally true.

  • @07Z06ss They came out in 1992. 300hp was a lot of power in 1992 dumbass. The Camaro, trans am and mustangs had less than 250hp in 1992.

  • It isn't a normal 3000GT, it's a MR version, it should be lighter ad a bit better tuned than the standard GTO

It's not worth getting an old car if you have the option of opting for something better, get a bmw or a mustang gt (2011 ones). I have a VR4 and it is a bitch to take care of, and I'm only 18. I was school in cars mechanic so I'm kinda adequate at maintaining it. Get a 370z Nismo ftw.

  • @ckyrocksass Unless, Mitsu grows some balls and revamp the 3000gt vr4 again, which I doubt they won't. Now in today market, the top Japanese car importers are Nissan and Nissan. Every other importers are in the *hybrid* mode. The new Lancers are, imo, gay. Go for the European cars, as they are getting more aggressive with their cars now. We need a petition to bring back the 3000gt vr4, there are so many people I know that wants that car back. Even American muscles heads heard of it.

  • @ckyrocksass Don't get a GTO unless you're not mechanically inclined, or have not at some point acquired and owned a DSM. The GTO might be advanced, but its a Mitsubishi, they have problems at being long term reliable cars..unless you have mechanical know-how. But if you really want a twin turbo 6 cylinder engined car, get a 300ZX 2+2

  • @BlackStar250874 In case you didn't know, the GTO have some transmission and differential problems. The Mitsubishi Eclipse has crank walk. Most mitsubishi performance cars have some problems of their own and its usually complicated, as compared to your lancer. The lancer is by far the most reliable car mitsubishi has ever built.

  • @mack1381 Correct. I was thinking if you mean performance cars, or Mitsubishi in general. I have always liked 3000GT/GTO, but not much Eclipse... What I think is hot these days, is Mitsubishi Legnum (Galant here in Europe - 2.5L TT, VR4). That or Galant VR4 sedan (97-98). Both those could be my next car. Four wheels is always better than two (mostly).

  • @BlackStar250874 the problem with the 6A13TT that came with the 8G Galant VR4 was the lack of aftermarket parts, your stuck between 350-400 bhp. There's a few who can make stroker kits and forged internals for the engine, but as said, FEW..

  • @mack1381 For your information the 3000gt is not a DSM. I have a 1996 Mitsubishi GTO MR here in england and I havtn had a problem with it. I do keep it up though due to the fact that im an aircraft machanic.

When you think of the shitty DSM's dont think Mitsu. think Dodge, DSM was a partnership to help dodge out, and to give mitsu. a larger domestic audiance; the shitty SOHC's ppl always complain about are the shitty engines that dodge asked them to build for them. Do you hear about Mitsubishi buying large stocks of Dodge engines? Do they re-badge american cars? Dodge imported 110k mitsu's. annually in 1980's.... Dont burn me Im just pointing out what I know

  • I dont get these ppl saying that the GTO MR was a "lighter" version of the VR-4 therefore faster than the VR-4.... I just did some research now and found out that the GTO MR only had 276hp while the VR-4 had 319hp (second gen model) not to mention that the GTO MR revved at the same RPM redline and that it weighed the same as the VR-4. The only difference between the MR and the VR4 is that the MR had less hp and was a japan only model... You kids need to learn how to do some research!

  • @mits92gto ok then you didnt"research" correctly it WAS advertised in japan with 276 hp. the 300gt vr4 had 319 and was advertised as 319 practically everywhere else.if your source is telling you that they advertised the gto mr as having any more than 276 than your source is wrong.its against the law in japan to do that.torque is different though.

  • @Bamavol89 My MR in stock form was dynoed to have 310hp, it was only advertised because of the agreement between the companies, ceiling hp should be 280, however most performance cars at that time DID NOT conform to it, even the GT-R in its most basic form has 330. It was only in the ads that they said 280

  • For something that weighs as much as the Cien tower, the GTO sure flies. Funny enough it's faster than the GT-R around Tsukuba aswell.

  • I miss my GTO.. I respect the car alot and love it, But the 300z Is a funner car to be in. But I sold my 300 to and bought a 94 wrx sti which is heavily mdded.. and I hope to sell that to get a skyline next summer. R33 has been my dream car for sooo long! The car that really made me start loving cars. Thank you Nissan for Building such a monster tunning machine!! I cant wait to get in one.

    Yea what happened to that golden age. The '90s were the best time for sports cars. The only Japanese company with balls these days is nissan with the gtr. Toyota, Mitsubishi, Mazda, time to catch up with Nissan. Evo does not count.

    Same engine 6g72 24valves twin turbo with 13g combresors.US version is 9b

    I love Mitsu, I'm pretty much gay for them.

    However, my best friend has A 91' 300ZX TT. Let me tell you this, it is very very nice. Also, both the Vr4 and 300ZX along with the Supra came out at the same time. They are rivals, but all of them are extremely nice.

    I been in everyone of them, and this is a unbiased opinion.

  • That 3000gt is the MR version only sold in Japan. It was lighter weight and bigger turbos than the U.S. version.

  • @Hauntedcorn10 Saying GTO>VR-4 is a flawed statement. The Mitsubishi GTO is the same car as the 3000GT, so saying the GTO>VR-4 is saying that a 3000GT is better than a VR-4. However, you are right in that this is not a GTO VR-4, it is actually a GTO MR (Mitsubishi Racing), a lower production version that was a little more powerful.
