  • Thanks for this info,

2 questions: 1) I ordered oil from Norkro - red and blue applicators - what is the difference? 2) no oil on gear teeth?

    Thanks

  • Thanks for the really clear explanation.

  • What about the main springs ? should they be oiled or greased during service ?

  • Thanks for this clear, simple account.

  • Im checking out your other videos, nice job!

  • What type of oil are you using? Aren't you supposed to clean the clock works before oiling? My dad's friend used to ultrasonically clean the movements to get the crud out of the movement. Let's think about an 100 yr old clock mechanism that's been sitting around for 50 + years. I bet there be crud and dirt in the mechanism.

  • @Lockemeister: Clock movements should be oiled every two years. I don't suggest cleaning a clock movement that often. Cleaning solution is a corrosive and is harsh on the metal parts. Cleaning the movement is more of a 10 to 20 year service and should be done by an experienced clock repairperson. I posted this video so any clock owner can do the oiling and many people put oil where it does not belong. I hope this video and information is helpful to most people who view it.

  • Great to see how it is done - Thanks very much!

  • I think you put too much oil on the escape wheel. It will just attract dirt if you use too much.

  • cool, thank you!
