  • THIS IS HOW ELVIS WENT OUT , HE WAS COOL, HE HAD SOUL , THEN HE BECAME A FADED POP MUSIC SENSATION, WELL THATS WHAT HAPPENED TO ROB TYNER :( TOO BAD , THIS GUY WAS A GENIUS WITH THE MC5 IN HIS OWN TIME. THIS WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE ROCK N ROLL IN THE 1960S WHO SANG : KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHER FUCKER. I WONDER IF ROBS TOMBSTONE NOW SAYS : KICK OUT THE JAMS, MOTHER FUCKERS :) GOD BLESS HIS PUNK SOUL

  • ITS TIME TO KICK OUT THE JOKES :)

  • It's Only Rock 'n Roll Mother Fuckers !!!

  • It's 1990, for god's sake; cut the man some slack!

  • I love this man dearly, but I've never been able to watch this clip all the way through. I forgive him for this misstep, though, given all that amazing things he has done.

  • a sad, almost spinal tap-like parody of what the late great rob tyner once stood for.

MC5 will live forever - but this? dunno...

  • I think it's great. He's a strong performer and knows what he does. Good rocking tonight.

  • Being a big fan of mc5 I gotta admit its difficult watching the videos of his later performances. I like his stuff a lot but it seems like he became a parody of himself near the end.

  • Any thing by Rob that is posted is completely righteous! Rob Tyner on any day is better than most others, on their best day!

  • @michelesaintthomas Way to TESTIFY!

  • this is well after his hay day,...but in his hay day...no one could touch this man!

  • Takin' on the Night...best song on the album. Awesome that someone is honoring him by playing that song. Wish they would have done that as the video...but sadly he died one year after this was recorded.

  • Damn, these guys are TIGHT!

  • I'd love to see "Taken the Night" off this same album "Blood Borthers"...my band does it, it's a killer tune.

  • EVERY ones a CRITIC! We LOVE Rob, so leave 'em alone!

  • He's rockin' it and sounding great.

  • @Carlos2024 you're joking, right? He was dressed as a women

  • Thank you for posting this. I haven't seen this in years.

  • you may not be able to visualize it from this video, but this guy was seriuosly one of the pioneers of rock when it really meant something. Rob Tyner knew how to kick out the jams (his voice is still good in this video too). The back-up band kind of sucked compared to Rob's band the MC5. Rest in peace Rob Tyner

  • I love this!

  • A legend singing legends

  • Reminds me of Rob Tyner singing from the heart.

  • Rob looked like a super-sized weird Al in this video.

    Sad.

  • I think Rob did a great job. How did he die. Was he a drugy? What a shame.

  • Screw all you complainers...Rob Tyner could have done a kazoo solo backed by a farting chimp and it would of been great music to my ears and much better than most bands out there. At least his band rocked, was still dressed in leather, and none of them were bald!

  • what in thee hell

  • I just got off the phone with Mick and Keith, they said they liked this version.

  • OH MY GOD. Still has a gread voice but god this is so sad.

  • Tyner had a great voice and the Five were a great band, but this is almost sad.

  • In this video, Rob Tyner reminds me of Drew Carey in a black afro wig, wearing holloween leathers trying to sing kareoke to The Stones! He'd be better off trying to get a MC5 reunion going with the surviving members! But hey, that's just me.

    Peace Out All!

  • He's not even a surviving member of the band, MC5. He died in 1991. This was recorded in 1990. Just a bit of history...whether you like it or not.

  • @jahellaspartan yeah man fuck you, this is beautiful, tyner is one of rock's greatest vocalist, people like you shouldnt be allowed to watch his videos or listen to his records, or read his book, the fro and the chicken wings, one day in punktopia, his name will be respected and revered, one day

  • Freakiin' ehh! Tyner looks like Drew Carey in a black afro wig and holloween leathers singing kareoke! This sucks! It would of been better if he'd done a MC5 reunion with the surviving members! ... but hey, that's just me.

  • i can't believe what i'm seeing....so sad... i would like to see his tubby ass do one of his james brown splits he used to do...i also like the fake crowd noise...

  • ha ha ...this is awfulll!!!

  • ...and, regrettably, it was his swansong...

  • take this down IMMEDIATELY!

    sonic is rollin over...

  • Not sure what you mean. What or who is sonic? I'll take it off youtube if given a good reason. I've gotten good comments from people who loved Rob, including members of his band. It's just one moment in history...

  • You're an MC5 fan, and you dunno Sonic? He was the guitarist for the MC5...

  • @joedaddy333 Who is Sonic?! Fred Smith, man! Come on! All nicknames aside, I think there's a place for this video. Here we see an older Rob rocking out and doing it HIS way, and if viewers don't like it they always have the option to fuck off, safe in the knowledge that were Rob alive he wouldn't give 2 shits what they think.

  • @joedaddy333 Sonic was Fred Smith's nickname,

he is the other MC5 member who passed away

  • One of the best YouTube comments ever!

    "take this down IMMEDIATELY!' LOL

  • so sad.

  • thats funny iggy pop did the same thing with his music

  • This is so lame! The singer has lost any balls he once had,the band is sucked out too!

  • Hey Shitheel - Wait till age changes your appearance.

You'll still FEEL like your 21.

What would you have the man do ? He was a Rock N Roller.

This cat was more of a rebel than you could dream to be.

    DIE.

  • Such a great singer! The rest of the band is only rock'n'roll - but I like it ;)

Nice instrumental setup. A Thunderbird Bass and a Les Paul Junior Guitar demonstrate excellent taste.

  • Nothing spices up a song like way too fucking many pick harmonics...

  • Don't get me wrong.. I really LOVE the MC5 and Rob Tyners Voice..

But the way he looks in this video, he reminds me of Richard Gervais in "when the wistle blows" in the sit-com "Extras" :D

  • Are you having a laugh?

  • & he even fixed that tooth split,

    he'd better shed some weight.

    All respect to him though.

  • So let me get this straight, music is invalid & unlistenable when it doesnt sound current always. THAT IS HORSE SHIT.

  • The only thing "terrible" here is every song off his 1990 album "Blood Brothers" wasn't a video. A true masterpiece tackled with tact & class from one of rock's greatest uncompromising voices. Is this a bit polished? Damn skippy it is. Tyner...strikes me as someone you really wouldve liked to have had a drink with.

  • you're joking, right? this is unbelievably dated and cheesy, in a bad way.

  • Of course it looks dated. It was recorded in 1990. As the director of this "music video", I had wished that any song on the album other than this was chosen. It was NOT representative of the talent of Rob Tyner. He was primarily an excellent song writer. We did this for no money. MTV just wanted to see the band perform. In retrospect, recording one of Rob's originals would have changed history. Rob died less than a year later - probably of a broken heart.

  • That's great that you had the opportunity to work with a true legend.

  • Nice Job.

Good opening number but sure seeing Tyner's own material would have been cool.

    Nice edit.

Fuck what does 'dated' mean ?

Is it different from 'retro' ?

Is it the same as an 'homage' ? ( ohh wait the morons who make nasty comments won't know what that word means)

His songs lives forever - the man had Soul.

  • terrible.

  • Eeks!!!!!!!!

  • no,the stones after exile,are not boring

    but this is your opinion

but after all,it is only rock n roll

    great version

  • They've done maybe few good singles after "exile" right, but come on! could you honestly tell me it wasn't much better with Brian Jones and all that R'NB sound before they turn into a rock stadium machine! still good yep but were's the soul man?. Blues is the soul not fireworks, balloons, and 1 mile stage.

But right, that's just my opinion.

  • Holly crap!!! that's an awefull 80's sounding version even with Rob Tyner on vocal. The Stones original is boring anyway, like everything they've done after "Exile on Main st" Go listen MC5 live stuffs in the 60's Rob was so much better than here.

  • The last time I saw Rob Tyner was at a party at Jerry Lubin's house for Jerry's birthday a couple years before Rob died. Off the stage he was really a mild mannered kind of guy and quite friendly. Very knowledgeable about rock and roll and blues music. I remember well the conversation we had about John Lee Hooker. Rob rocked out until the end. I know Robert Gillespie on guitar, but don't think I know the other fella. Saw Rob's new MC5 in the 70s with Gillespie and Mike Marshall. And Ralph I think

  • man detroit in the 80's

  • Wow, it's amazing how Rob still had it after all those years. Rest in peace man, you will be missed.

  • the rolling stones do this song a lot better!

  • Holy Cripes! I forgot all about this video. I was there when you guys shot it. (I gotta call Bankert one of these days)

The coolest part about Detroit is you can play till the day you die...at least that's how I plan to do it. God bless you guys. I miss Rob.

Jim Edwards - another rock-n-roll Detroiter

  • R.I.P. Rob Tyner. A2 FOREVER. KICK OUT THE JAMS MF's! Damn, we're all missing ya!

  • Didn't know the history of how the band (MC5) fell apart. Should be a lesson to todays kids. Seriously sad.

  • Damn, Rob... Oh well. At least it was 1990 and you were still sporting your white man's afro. Kudos to that!

  • Rob Tyner is great but that guitar player here sucks, I hate those lame hardrock guitar licks...drummer has a funny hairdo.

  • This is the guitar player on the video, ..Gee,..it was the early 90's,..what was I supposed to be playing, blues licks? Gimme a break, we were a hardrock band for christsakes! Anyway, it don't matter much to me what ya think, you're entitled to your opinion, that's cool, all that matters to me was that Rob wanted ME in the band and it was truly an honor to stand on stage next to him for many years. He was and always will be my friend and I miss him alot.

  • Joe...Joe...you should have been playing lame country banjo licks, everybody knows that! Bwa HA HA HA HA! Disregard the typical YouTube flake, they're normally over at AICN posting "First!" anyway.

Hey I recognize Petey but who is the drummer?

    -Dave

  • That's Joe Cline, great drummer, known him for years. He was also in AZ.U.R. You back in LA?

  • i dont think that it was his best period (in this video)

i like the sound of his voice, it was cool, but he was real great only in MC5 i think

  • LOVE TYNER - M. C. 5.

  • R.I.P Rob Tyner, we sure miss you :(

  • Any Rob Tyner or MC5 fans, please feel free to comment on this video.
