CT sang this as a scathing poetic attack on Neville Fernando for singing his popular songs with a twist, lyrics by Karunaratne Abeysekera. Just listen carefully to lines "kusagini hedhunata indhul nokavu, thana kola nobudhithi sinha patavu", "gayuvata imihiri padha uputa, kovuleku venavadha kalu kaputa", etc. Every line is a rub against Neville. Why? Because Los Caballeros' version became more popular on SLBC-Eng than CT's originals.
Neville and his group initially sang English and Spanish songs only. At parties, many people requested them to sing Sinhalese songs. Therefore Neville adapted CTs 'Mage sudu mame' to suit them. Because of the use of western techniques (harmonization) and western instruments, their version became more popular than the original. CT publicly protested against this. Neville's first attempt at a Sinhalese song was 'Mal bara himidiriye' which was an adaptation of CTs 'Pun sanda hinehenne'.
Jude,Thanks 4 post these CT's goldies.I thank you for preserve this records and put into U tube. Our SLBC should recorded these songs to CD's using new technology but unfortunately they ruin them using nails.Even M.S.Fernando's songs,Marina, marina,Kolomba kakkek I think we never heard them again.
Hi Kasuni, Thank you very much for the lovely comment. I agree, that SLBC should have invested more effort in preserving the classics. From what I heard, that they have one of the largest collection of records of the world, and some classics that not even BBC has. Also I heard the present director general is making an effort to digitise all vinyl records !!
What a song of all time..How many times we have sung this song and played it...It gives real pleasure to listen to it..You have added very valuable images of CT

CT didn't write or composed, to my knowledge. I think this is by Karunaratne Abeysekara. Thanks!

Friends,
I love CT's songs including this one.
