@juliannator13 delivery trucks, bread trucks, only place ive ever heard of it, do some online research, people sell these trucks online, or if you have delivery/bread places near you, maybe ask them
Thats a super clean installation. The exhaust is a super joke but the engine bay looks real clean :) Put some 4 inch comming right out the passengers front fender ;)
i had wanted to do this for a while, but realized they are just to heavy for a cj/yj/tj, and have another diesel planned for that (super secret, lol) but still am considering a 4bt in my j10
I love these conversions! If you know what you're doing you can get great gas milage (30+mpg) and if you wanted to hot rod one of these you can get over 300hp and close to 800 foot pounds of torque. not to mention the fact that you can run them on WVO, bio-diesel, or even automatic transmission fluid, but you really need to know what those guys are putting in those dump tanks. and the noise is amazing!
Yep, just gotta clean it REALLY ridiculously well. Don't want metal shavings in your truck. lol I've heard of people doing that with used motor oil also.
I know a guy who mixed up all sorts of old junk paints off his shelf and ran it through his MBZ Diesel. What an idiot, but it ran! Haha...
you can run atf in place of diesel. its actually better in my opinion. a friend of mine had an old mercedes diesel, and a friend who worked at a transmission shop, he would stop in about every two weeks and fill his fuel tank with used atf, owned the car about a year and someone walked in the parts store where he worked, asked who owned it, and then offered him 2500 for it on the spot, which was 4 times what he paid for it. title was in the car, he sold it right there and got a ride home.
also, i know another gentleman who has a 98 chevy 3500 with a 6.5, with 400k on it, its run atf since new, and still has the original injector pump! these engines on regular diesel cant seem to make an I.P. last more that 200k
It's about the same size as a chevy small block! If I remember right, it is a little shorter and narrower, but a little taller. About the same weight also. This is my memory from when I was making sure I could fit one into my CJ5 Jeep... (haven't found an engine yet.. :(
From what the tubes just told me, the 4BT "wet" (oil, pumps, turbo etc) weighs about 700-750#, the same as a bare (Dry) Chevy Big-block, or a couple hundred more than a bare CSB. If you have a super-light rig, then run the suzuki or a lawnmower engine for that matter! If you have a normal weight vehicle, and you want it to have the power to drive over the mountains at the speed limit, a couple hundred pounds really isn't that much for all the extra power this thing will put out! -At Idle... ;)
To the dorks that are commenting that the stock 4.0L has more hp, you are idiots. This engine is far superior for rock crawling to the 4.0L because of it's high torque at extremely low RPMs, not only that, but his rig probably gets about 30MPG.
Torique can be multiplied so even a high reving low torque engine can be used to rock crawl (just look at the spidertrax guys who use 1.6l suzuki engines and 6:1transfer cases). This engine may actually be worse because it weighs 750lbs whereas a 4.0 weighs about 500lbs.
its spelled liter. And a tractor cummins engine turns a jeep into a whole new crawling hauling machine. And yes improved gas mileage. If you are serious about off roading then this engine would be brilliant. So much torque. The 4.0 is good, but a cummins has serious advantages
I emailed the overland guys and they didn't respond to I will try you. Does your tachometer work? Because I see the stock ECU was retained and i know when people put chevy 350's in a TJ they use a chevy ECU and the stock jeep one at the same time. Basically the Jeep ecu still thinks its powering an engine but one that is not running so the Tach does not move because its is controlled by the ECU on the CCD bus. I am curious as to how they solved the problem. My guess is a Euro spec diesel XJ ECU.
Tach doesn't work yet. Cummins 4BT has no ECU or any "real" electronics. Flywheel/crankshaft position sensor notches will be cut into a ring on the front pulley, and the stock Jeep CKP sensor used, which gets hooked up to the stock harness.
I thought so. Hope it works and does not throw codes at you. If you go with a European Diesel XJ computer it might be easier because they are all mechanical and the computer only drives the gauges.
Love to put a little Kubota diesel in my Ranger.
