It's pretty obvious how it happened. That Golf was going up the hill too fast, didn't slow down, or was riding right in between the lanes, tried to stop but still hit the caliber head on.

Gee officer if there aren't any witnesses how do you know there was an accident? Maybe this was done on purpose? Maybe the cars were like that and were drove to the schene - did you think of that Yogi? I would say they could have fallen off a trailer but but wouldn't there be tracks - maybe they feel off of an airplane have you contacted the local and regional airports to see if they have lost any air Car-go (bad pun)
In all fairness to BoneJacker01's comment, the Police officer does appear to be asuming what had happened, he doesn't actually know what happened.

Here in the UK we have abandoned the term Road Traffic Accident (RTA) and replaced it with Road Traffic Collision (RTC) as RTC's are very rarely and accident because someone is always to blame.
