Whats the big deal? When i was 13 we were forced to take showers at the end of pe class and then about once a month we all had to stand naked for inspection by the pe teachers who did so to check for bruises indicationg abuse or anything else as well as proper hygiene by inspecting our pubic hair for lice etc. Though i can see being targeted for a strip search because some one accuses you of something. This decision will be interesting. I work in a school district in Arizona and this school, I believe exercised there right to search the girl in good faith. The keys to this case is one: Did they have a right based on the info they had to strip search her because the danger was inerrant to the student or the student body and next if so; was that search excessively intrusive! Now the latter is open for interpretation. There is no law in AZ that prevents strip searches although...
2. ..some school districts take that option away from their school admin by way of board policy like my district does. But because a district does not have a policy in place to prevent it does not make that, at least at face value, illegal if they strip search a student. Now there are a few other mitigating circumstances that people need to know and those are: that weeks earlier some students took some pills that sent several student to the hospital and they never found out what that substance..

People griping about this, where the heck are you in real life? For years I have been saying how we are losing our freedom (in person to people), and most look at me like I'm crazy. Whats the big deal? When i was 13 we were forced to take showers at the end of pe class and then about once a month we all had to stand naked for inspection by the pe teachers who did so to check for bruises indicationg abuse or anything else as well as proper hygiene by inspecting our pubic hair for lice etc. Though i can see being targeted for a strip search because some one accuses you of something. I had my backpack searched once. Someone on my bus said, "Can I have some gum?" And the sub bus driver claimed he said, "I have a gun." So everyone had to have their bag searched before they could leave. My backpack had a lot of pockets, none of which were looked though. It was pointless and made me feel LESS safe about school security than I had felt before.

I remember years ago I could bring aspirin to school and even give one to another student, and nobody made a big deal about it. But it looks like school administrators don't differentiate between substances anymore and treat them all as equally dangerous, and even the school nurses aren't allowed to dispense common over-the-counter medicine. There were at least 14 kids in my school district who had been expelled due to zero tolerance bullshit like this. Some of the mismanagement went almost as far as this. If it happened so many times in my district, I can't imagine the kind of atmosphere that happens all over... If children are being brought up in this sort of environment, who's to say they aren't going to perpetuate it when they've become functioning members of society, having been taught that it's normal?

This decision will be interesting. I work in a school district in Arizona and this school, I believe exercised there right to search the girl in good faith. The keys to this case is one: Did they have a right based on the info they had to strip search her because the danger was inerrant to the student or the student body and next if so; was that search excessively intrusive! But because a district does not have a policy in place to prevent it does not make that, at least at face value, illegal if they strip search a student. Now there are a few other mitigating circumstances that people need to know and those are: that weeks earlier some students took some pills that sent several student to the hospital and they never found out what that substance..

It is the Law, and I hope her school officials get fired, lose their fancy pensions, and that the school district will have to cut sports for 10 years to cover the cost of her lawsuit in order to deter this from ever happening again!!!

Such a search is in obvious and direct violation of human rights, and it's shameful that school staff would act in such a manner. I hope the Court case goes strongly in her favor, and therefore in favor of human rights.
