  • This made me cry when I saw it a few years ago. Beautiful.

  • I still think "Next to Normal" deserved best musical, but this is a beautiful show.

  • this gives me chills! billy elliot is awesome

  • GAWD, I remember seeing this when it first opened in London. Everyone was bawling.

  • i got very sad when they sang this song. i could relate to this play alot

  • Heselthine and Thatcher was here.

  • I saw this on BROADWAY!

  • The training along with the emotions these singers/actors went through to make this as stunning as it is is incomprehensible.

  • This is such a great musical. I saw it on tuesday when adam vesperman was playing billy and he was great. This was one of the best songs. It's at the end and made me nearly cry, this musical has sad and happy parts. One minute i would be laughing my head off and then the next i would be in tears!! Must see!!

  • Very fitting for the current Occupy LA situation

  • Saw this on Thursday, I actually get constant shivers. This whole play was just beyond brilliance, one minute I'd be laughing my head off and the next I'd be practically in tears. And this song just sends so many shivers through my spine that I can't help but get all het up about it :D

  • @MrsLovett112 I saw it then as well!!!!!

  • @BabySharkSong NO WAAAAY I literally was just singing this in my head as well. Where abouts were you in the audience? We were up on the tier thing

  • @MrsLovett112 we were on dress circle!!!

  • @BabySharkSong That is so cool :D

  • 3:25... holy shit.

  • ughh....This is my reaction, chills up the gazoo

  • :') <33

  • Taers in mah eyes <3 :')

  • This song made me cry! so powerfull! <3 this musical is truly amazing and if you havent seen it you should go because it is the best i have ever seen! such a powerfull song.

  • i've seen this show and once you've seen it you just can't stop singing all the songs!!:D as soon as you come out of the theatre you're just like 'OMG I WANNA SEE THAT AGAIN -NOW!!!!!' i love this song so much with all the harmonies!! and this song is so beautiful - LOVE IT! :D x

  • We don't really have coal miners like this in England any more...we have people in some sort of cave getting coal but not in such hard and dangerous suitations. Though i don't think they get paid very well

  • I listen to this every time I play spiral knights :3

  • Fantastic score. But Next to Normal was better than this. It may have been a photo finish, but this was not the best new musical of that year.

  • Even if you don't like the musical (impossible) or the song itself (also impossible) you have to amitt they have amazing voices!!!!!!! (I'm a girl.) How can you dislike this??

  • i was in this on west end and stanging next to them this is soo amazing it gave me goosebumps everytime

  • I have a very, very difficult time deciding what my favorite song from this show is... which is a very, very good thing. :)

  • and im only 11!

  • i performed this musical in the glasgow pavillion with Shine Youth Music Theatre

  • An incredible piece of theatre and music. So powerful in so many different ways.

  • I am in a choir and this summer we went to Estonia and met up with different choirs from all over the world and participated in different kinds of ateliers and learned new music, the Musical atelier did this song at the end of their performance and when we all left the huge auditorium someone suddenly sang the last verse and eventually everyone joined in, this song makes me relive that memory <3

  • Two people have no idea what amazing means...

  • I remember when i watched this was pure silence as their voices echoing throughout the theater and as they got lowered down it gave me chills very powerful and my class and i watched this as our end of the year trip every time i listen to this i reminds me of my class and last year :')

  • I had to search this after the theatre, such a powerful song, and scene, when they were being lowered to the mine into darkness with their headlights.

  • THE best theatre performance i've seen. <3

  • I loved this at the theatre, really powerful. Sent shivers done my spine!

  • I also loved the lighs.

  • tony is acctyually really nice.

  • i watched this in theatre....and they shone there lights in my face D: loved the song but damnnn...

  • @ZSHudson yeah I know, they blinded me too xD

  • @auqablue400 I guess you can say you were enlightened!

  • @ZSHudson

yesh It was pretty awesome. the music was so frickin' loud!

  • doing this in sunderland with my drama group on the 21st of may ! im sooo exctied!

  • no doubt this was one of the highlights of the whole show. It's enough to make you cry when the miners go down and all you can hear is the brave echo of "the ground is empty and cold as hell, but we all go together when we go". And then after that, silence. I was overwhelmed and loved every second of it!

  • i just saw this play today and at the end when they were going down and it was dark i said to myself "holy shit!!!!"

  • @AbdilainesBlackMagic it is amazing i saw it a couple of days ago and it was the best musical i have ever seen

  • Can't wait to go see this in London. The school production is sounding pretty good so far but it will be amazing to see it done professionally.

  • Saw this last night. Oh. My. GOSH. The miners helmet lights and them going down into the mine...COOLEST thing ever. Gave me shivers and I could NOT look away. Throughout all of the songs, I was just entranced!

  • I saw it today, it's just one of the best Brodways I've seen. I wonder how the plays are in Europe.

  • @PierreRMB AMAZING!

  • @53tgh1 I belive you. :)

  • @PierreRMB HAHAHA!

  • Saw it yesterday & i cried (well like bawled my eyes out right) through the acappella!

  • this show was so amazing.

  • i saw this at the imperial theater NYC with my theatre class. 28 students - all of us were speechless.

  • Also, does the elevator cracking and the other sound effects mean that the miners die or something?

  • @pupsothedog Nope, it just means its an old, creeky elevator XD

  • HOLY SHIT 3:25! BEAUTIFUL

  • Goosebumps.. I cried more at Billy Elliot then I did at Les Mis.. and that's saying something. I would love to see it again!

  • I cried almost the whole time at the victoria palace in london..

    so beautifull ....

  • @666Katsumi666 u seem quite sympathetic for someone who puts "666" in his name

  • @u7alll Thanks..! I always suprise people like that or the way i'm dressed..

  • @666Katsumi666

Me too! I've never seen anything as powerful and emotive as that scene- brilliant, and so very true...

  • @666Katsumi666 Me too! It's the most powerful and emotive scene ever... beautiful and so very true to life...

  • I absolutely loved in when the miners turned away from Billy and looked out into the crowd with fog obscuring their bodies and faces, with 20 or so mining helmets shining through. Then effect of decending into the mine was completely moving, the elevator cracking and ringing, their voices getting quiterr and farther away, the final boom when they reached the bottom. Best scene of the entire production if you ask me.

  • omg i loved the entire play. i saw it with peter mazurowski

  • i love this so much....has anyone met cesar corrales? if you have...talk to me

  • i LOVE THIS SONG!! I STARTED CRYING WHEN THEY ALL WENT DOWN!! AMAZING!

  • I cried at this part.. :)

  • Saw this in New York. Best musical I have ever seen.

I plan to use this and "The stars look down" for the communist dwarves in my D&D campaign, as they march off to defend their homeland.

  • Cried my way through this number in London last week. So powerful.

  • I heard that the guy who directed this will take part in co-directing the London 2012 Olympics Ceremonies.

  • This song is so moving and so powerful, I had goosebumps especially at the end! The harmony is so strong. It makes me want to get up and sing.

  • The acapella at the end sends shivers down my spine, along with the angry dance. This musical literally took my breath away. At the end all i wanted to do was sit back down and watch it again. To be honest, i don't think they leave a dry eye in the house.

  • Saw this on the West End. The acting was so raw and powerful, especially in this song.

  • It should be the new English anthem.

Even better than "god save the queen"

  • we have two thatcherites in the house.

  • our school just did the show, this was the best part of it! <3

  • 2 people were never kings

  • HOW CAN ANYONE DISLIKE THIS billy elliot is the most AMAZING musical ive EVER SEEN the songs are sooo powerful and moving... i LOVE IT!!

  • I fricken LOVE Billy Elliot! :D was amaaaazing in theature and this song almost made me cry! <3 x

  • Saw B.E live on Monday. This part nearly had me in tears.

This is one of the most powerful things in musical history, I swear it.

  • "You are very fucking special. Now piss off before I start to cry." LMAO

  • @norlytheborly98 oh really now? has anyone been to hell, then come back to tell us the temperature? no, so shut up

  • @vguandbloopers Oh my gosh! why do youtubers have to make a big deal about everything? I was just kidding.

  • @norlytheborly98 well you sounded like a serious toned dumbass, so...

  • i am in love with the musical and film of billly elliot! :) im its biggest fan

  • when all you could see was the light from the flashlights was so powerful. i wanted to cry. i loved this play so muchh

  • i saw the musical but it had a lot of questions, because i didn't see the movie. but the play was okay at best. such language

  • I LOVE this musical!! Along side Blood Brothers and We Will Rock You, This is my favourite musical!

  • i went to see this not long ago with my school, and it was AMAZING! I will love this musical forever! It's so very powerful! I love it! :) x

  • We performed this at school and every night without fail when i sung this i got shivers. Its one of the most powerful and epic songs out there. The acapella part is beautiful and you get a real sense of pride. An unforgettable piece of theatre.

  • I just saw this, and omg it was so strong. I always love a capella parts in songs.

  • The end of this song with the miners standing with their helmets lit in the dark and the melody they sang a capella made me break into tears. Such a powerful scene and song.

Whoever has a chance to see this musical DO IT!

  • I saw this musical two days ago, and it was amazing.

Focking amazing. Hey, that's how it sounds.

This really is a very powerful song, you get chills listening to it, especially the end, where the miners are going into the mine.

    The entire musical is AMAZING.

  • I wish people stuck together today as they did then

  • @ectasymeansrave

Well, being a member of the group you refer to as "people", part of the responsibility lies with you. People still band together, you just have to keep your eyes open.

  • i loved the whole thing

  • I forgot how this song made me feel. A very cool part of the play.

  • I could swear when I saw this in Melbourne it was just the men singing this, seemed slightly more effective that way...

  • I saw it in NY, I have to agree.

Easily my favorite song in the play.

  • So Good !

  • this is my favourite song from billy elliot!!

  • i saw this at the west end, its soooo gooood :)

  • this song has a way of making me feel strong and hopefull it has that vibe to it!! i cried when ii saw it everything about this show is amazing!

  • They do use the northern accents in the New York production, don't they? And do the Americans get all the political jokes? Because when I went to see it with my friends most of the younger audience didn't get them all.

  • They use northern accents but pretty light ones -- it's really hard for us Americans to understand heavy British accents. When I saw it, I remember there being political jokes that I thought were funny, but there were probably some that went right over my head.

  • Yes alot :L Like you don't hate Maggie as much as we do!

  • all jokes are funny as long as you do the work to get them, i mean fraiser showed me that

  • I'm the younger audience. And I bet some of the jokes flew over my head. But the majority of the time I laughed when everyone else did. Then again, I'm a very political person.

  • this song is so powerful in the theatre i cried:P

  • the accapella bit at the end is the most powerful thing i saw at the theatre. wow. :)

  • @SpoonFullOfEmily I know. I saw it at the Orpheum in Minneapolis yesterday and when that part started i was like "NOOOO KEEP SINGING!!!!"

  • the best show i've ever been. a friend recomend me, and when i stayed in london this summer...

LOVE IT! this part bring me tears too.

    amazing

  • i loved the musical.

    i cried at this part.

my friends laughed at me :D

  • Those poor miners...

This is one of the best musical songs I've ever heard. So emotional.

  • @ltmishastraskov Indeed! Those miners were once the backbone of England's coal industry for hundreds of years, but now they're just relics of history. Only very few people work as coal miners in England now, compared to the time before they had the strike. :(

  • ohh my gosh this song is sooooo powerful at the theatre, especially the acapella part at the end

  • I cried.

But only because the flash lights made my eyes water.

he song is fooking great though.

Can anyone get it for me?

    x

  • The acepella part absolutely brings me to tears!

  • I saw this with school on tuesday. This bit is so amazing when they all face the audience.

  • this bit sends a shiver down my spine and leaves a tear in my eye everytime i hear it! it was just so powerful at the end, what a show i didnt expect it to be that good. just amazing!

  • This reduced me to tears. It was breathing taking to watch.

  • I saw this on Wednesday and i totally agree this bit was sooo powerful

  • I have a friend in the original cast and went to see it last month--this part is just so freaking powerful.

  • yer i agree with libitb, the miners facing the audience was amazing, i saw this on saturday, it was the most amazing thing i have ever seen in my life.

sent shivers down my spine it was so powerful

WOW I WANT TO SEE THIS AGAIN!!

  • i really liked it when the miners faced the audience with their head lamps shining at us and all. and the singing towards the end as well. wow.

  • i cried in this musical

  • I just came home from seeing this musical. I'm fully American and I don't really know too much about what happened in England at the time, but this scene really captured me. When they were going down the elevator-type thing it was incredible.

  • You don't need to know the actual events in England in the 80s to appreciate the musical. Descending into a mine speaks for itself. Its an amazing scene. It had me in bits when I saw it. I've tears in my eyes now thinking about it!

  • I saw the show two days ago and it was amazing. My feriends in show choir are doing this song.

  • i've seen the musical its very good

  • Just type "Once We Were Kings lyrics" into google.

  • anybody has the song words of this song. could you please sent it to me thank you very much

  • Je mapelle amazed et joy. =) I no what that means.... Weird right?

  • No it can't. It is beyond their work.

  • yer ur right

  • What!? That shite could never be compared to this work of art!...Sorry, but eww!

  • Hehe, good....All is forgiven =] :P

  • when ever i listen to this song

i get shivers down my spine because of its awesomeness

  • :'(

makes me cry all over again just listening to it! a magic musical - absolutely fantastic.
