This is such a great musical. I saw it on tuesday when adam vesperman was playing billy and he was great. This was one of the best songs. It's at the end and made me nearly cry, this musical has sad and happy parts. One minute i would be laughing my head off and then the next i would be in tears!! Must see!!
Saw this on Thursday, I actually get constant shivers. This whole play was just beyond brilliance, one minute I'd be laughing my head off and the next I'd be practically in tears. And this song just sends so many shivers through my spine that I can't help but get all het up about it :D
This song made me cry! so powerfull! <3 this musical is truly amazing and if you havent seen it you should go because it is the best i have ever seen! such a powerfull song.
i've seen this show and once you've seen it you just can't stop singing all the songs!!:D as soon as you come out of the theatre you're just like 'OMG I WANNA SEE THAT AGAIN -NOW!!!!!' i love this song so much with all the harmonies!! and this song is so beautiful - LOVE IT! :D x
We don't really have coal miners like this in England any more...we have people in some sort of cave getting coal but not in such hard and dangerous suitations. Though i don't think they get paid very well
Even if you don't like the musical (impossible) or the song itself (also impossible) you have to amitt they have amazing voices!!!!!!! (I'm a girl.) How can you dislike this??
I am in a choir and this summer we went to Estonia and met up with different choirs from all over the world and participated in different kinds of ateliers and learned new music, the Musical atelier did this song at the end of their performance and when we all left the huge auditorium someone suddenly sang the last verse and eventually everyone joined in, this song makes me relive that memory <3
I remember when i watched this was pure silence as their voices echoing throughout the theater and as they got lowered down it gave me chills very powerful and my class and i watched this as our end of the year trip every time i listen to this i reminds me of my class and last year :')
I had to search this after the theatre, such a powerful song, and scene, when they were being lowered to the mine into darkness with their headlights.
no doubt this was one of the highlights of the whole show. It's enough to make you cry when the miners go down and all you can hear is the brave echo of "the ground is empty and cold as hell, but we all go together when we go". And then after that, silence. I was overwhelmed and loved every second of it!
Saw this last night. Oh. My. GOSH. The miners helmet lights and them going down into the mine...COOLEST thing ever. Gave me shivers and I could NOT look away. Throughout all of the songs, I was just entranced!
I absolutely loved in when the miners turned away from Billy and looked out into the crowd with fog obscuring their bodies and faces, with 20 or so mining helmets shining through. Then effect of decending into the mine was completely moving, the elevator cracking and ringing, their voices getting quiterr and farther away, the final boom when they reached the bottom. Best scene of the entire production if you ask me.
The acapella at the end sends shivers down my spine, along with the angry dance. This musical literally took my breath away. At the end all i wanted to do was sit back down and watch it again. To be honest, i don't think they leave a dry eye in the house.
We performed this at school and every night without fail when i sung this i got shivers. Its one of the most powerful and epic songs out there. The acapella part is beautiful and you get a real sense of pride. An unforgettable piece of theatre.
The end of this song with the miners standing with their helmets lit in the dark and the melody they sang a capella made me break into tears. Such a powerful scene and song.
Well, being a member of the group you refer to as "people", part of the responsibility lies with you. People still band together, you just have to keep your eyes open.
They do use the northern accents in the New York production, don't they? And do the Americans get all the political jokes? Because when I went to see it with my friends most of the younger audience didn't get them all.
They use northern accents but pretty light ones -- it's really hard for us Americans to understand heavy British accents. When I saw it, I remember there being political jokes that I thought were funny, but there were probably some that went right over my head.
I'm the younger audience. And I bet some of the jokes flew over my head. But the majority of the time I laughed when everyone else did. Then again, I'm a very political person.
@ltmishastraskov Indeed! Those miners were once the backbone of England's coal industry for hundreds of years, but now they're just relics of history. Only very few people work as coal miners in England now, compared to the time before they had the strike. :(
