I notice how you didn't touch on the fact that Kepler literally stole Brahe's astronomical data immediatly after Brahe's death. I understand Tycho's wife wasn't too happy.
I don't think I've heard anyone outside Denmark pronounce his name right xD
It's more like tyyyko braaa, with the special danish sound of the 'a' and 'y' maybe I'll make a video response with the correct pronunciation... but probably not
In the version of the story that I heard, he died because his bladder ruptured due to the sheer pressure inside. No idea if that's remotely realistic though. Thanks for shedding some light on other possible causes.
Hey, I dont know if you use questions from youtube, but after the question about the sun rise, I really wanted to know if being a scientist, does it ruin watching movies by looking for the details? Or can you still enjoy it?
Most people without fillings have a maximum of 5-10 micrograms per liter of urine. Most practicing dentists have levels below 10 micrograms per liter, even though they are exposed to mercury vapor when placing or removing amalgam filings and typically have amalgams in their own teeth.
You ingest more mercury eating a Tuna fish sandwhich than filling every tooth you have with amalgam.
I held in a number 2 while watching this. I know it was just a coincidence, but I held it in anyway, the entire time with my chin up, in honor of tycho brahe. I'm also going to GO number 2, in honor of Tycho brahe.
Tycho was a pretty cool guy and definitely a legend both in terms of his scientific achievements and his eccentric life. Dr Pearce actually went through this story with us (Nottingham Uni's first-year physics students) a few weeks ago in one of the astronomy lectures.
@rabbitsib most people describe canadians as having american accents. and I agree with those people. most americans sound like the people I talk to everyday. I am of coarse ignoring americans from and around new york, from the south and canadians that are french or from the east coast. how would you say her accent differs from an american accent?
@urantivirus I'm from Wisconsin and her accent is very Northern like saying party its more like paaarty and drunk=drunkaa the words are stretched a bit, but they think Wisconsin people sound like that or at least commercials do.
He lost his nose in a duel about who was the better mathematician?
The argument was not about who was the better swordsman. You'd think they could've had a brutal math duel instead until one of them beat the other into submission with the mad skillz at the chalkboard.
@BeardedBill86 Yes. And Kepler was a Lutheran. He strongly disapproved of Tycho's lifestyle, and their collaboration was going nowhere. IIRC, Kepler had just about made up his mind to leave when Tycho fell ill, and made Kepler promise to carry on his work. So it wasn't just Tycho's work but his death which made modern astronomy possible.
@1RadicalOne I don't think that anyone seriously claims that his bladder exploded; rather, that he contracted a bladder infection, which certainly can happen from "holding it in." On the other hand, the level of mercury found in his remains is a big "that too."
No, you would have to land pretty hard, and that would rupture other things, your liver and spleen among them. Had that happened, he would have died in minutes.
@1RadicalOne Ok, you're almost certainly right. But still, the next time I trip and fall down in front of someone, I'm going to scream out: "Ow, my bladder!".
Tycho needs to be the hero of a new quirky videogame, or some steampunk story. He and his moose and hispsychic dwarf and his gold nose, fighting the forces of bizarre evil and static heaven.
As far as I know, an elk is not the same as a moose. So it has to have been a pet moose Tycho had. Though the Danish word for moose is "elg", which may or may not be a source of confusion for English-speaking people.
@pitupraveen hi, that depends on someone choosing him... the videos on @FavScientist are with a different group from a different uni, and they decide who they want to talk about...

I don't think he died of not going to the toilet for a few hours, because if you have a bladder infection you have bacteria in your bladder.
Bladders are normally sterile.
And just by sitting stil I don't think you can get bacteria in your bladder ^_^

Noone with any knowledge believes Brahe died by holding his urine so long that his bladder ruptured or exploded.
The sphincter is simply not powerful enough to withstand pressure sufficient to do that.
