Most people without fillings have a maximum of 5-10 micrograms per liter of urine. Most practicing dentists have levels below 10 micrograms per liter, even though they are exposed to mercury vapor when placing or removing amalgam filings and typically have amalgams in their own teeth.

You ingest more mercury eating a Tuna fish sandwhich than filling every tooth you have with amalgam.

Tycho was a pretty cool guy and definitely a legend both in terms of his scientific achievements and his eccentric life. Dr Pearce actually went through this story with us (Nottingham Uni's first-year physics students) a few weeks ago in one of the astronomy lectures.

@BeardedBill86 Yes. And Kepler was a Lutheran.  He strongly disapproved of Tycho's lifestyle, and their collaboration was going nowhere. IIRC, Kepler had just about made up his mind to leave when Tycho fell ill, and made Kepler promise to carry on his work. So it wasn't just Tycho's work but his death which made modern astronomy possible.

Noone with any knowledge believes Brahe died by holding his urine so long that his bladder ruptured or exploded.

The sphincter is simply not powerful enough to withstand pressure sufficient to do that.

As far as I know, an elk is not the same as a moose. So it has to have been a pet moose Tycho had. Though the Danish word for moose is "elg", which may or may not be a source of confusion for English-speaking people.
