Don't let it fool you. You are in enemy country. Be alert. Suspicious of everyone. Take no chances. They have had no free speech. Had no free press. They were brought up on straight propaganda. They have been trained to hate and destroy. Don't argue with them. Don't try to change their point of view. You will not be friendly. You will be aloof. Don't clasp that hand. It's not the kind of a hand you can clasp in friendship.
God, this is an absolutely awful version of this song. Maybe I've been spoiled by the 12" but there is WAY too much of the sassy girl BG vocal is this, making it so goofy as to being almost unbearable. Just try "Drinking Gasoline" if you're looking for Cabaret Voltaire's best work from their dance-y period.
@drphonic7 Whilst you're entitled to your opinion, I think you are wrong. CV have always evolved, and this 1987 track was the next stage of that evolution. This features the genius that is Bill Nelson on guitar. Like it or not, CV were heading towards a more commercial direction, possibly not to their liking, but as they were now on an EMI offshoot, and commercial success would have been expected. despite this, the track is classic Cabaret Voltaire. I love the 11 minute cassette remix of this.
@brianartillery Well yes, that is my opinion: that the commercialized, water-down version of CV blows. And I strongly doubt that most CV fans would agree with you that this track is "classic Cabaret Voltaire." But like I said, it's the lame BG vocals that mainly get on my nerves.
Fair enough, but I've been a fan of the Cabs since late 1980, and my favourite period of their work has to be from then until and including 'Microphonies'. I really enjoy their work, and if I was pushed, I'd have to say my favourite track is an oldie - 'War Of Nerves [T.E.S.]' from '2X45' Not a girly vocal in earshot.
ok..since emi has posted most of the videos made by director peter care and cabaret voltaire here on you tube, has anyone heard of any plans to reissue their emi catalogue?
@miketb42 I personally saw to reissuing Cabs' missing catalogue, including videos. I was quite thorough even doing 12" versions of videos, but well, I might have missed a few things. All reissued digitally mind, but available now after a long period of absence.
I own a copy on vinyl that I bought for 7 dollars in 2003, and I see it on vinyl for less than ten dollars pretty often. Worth every penny...and also available on I-tunes. BUY IT!!!
love the chick in red bikini. i've got 2 different 12"s of this single, the other one has attractive green and black graphics and 2 mixes that are a more clean electro sound than this
very nice. and that was 1987. the vid have good theme and could made in the late 90s. but it was 1987- very cool

The voiceover bit comes from a US Army propaganda film called "Your Job In Germany". It's worth a watch.

@drphonic7 it's the 12" version that has the sassy girl vocals... the album (4:26) cut does not.
