Well the only ticket i've ever gotten in my life was with an escort x-50. My v1 i've never got 1. So take that for what it's worth not saying the x-50 isn't a nice unit running it right now. Just a general observation.
i have a cobra 10 band 360Laser and it goes off when im in front of a shopping mart. after, i passed by a few cops that pulled someone over and it didnt go off. then i passed by a cop on the street and numbers showed up on the display but didnt beep...
Valentine Reasearch doesn't carry "A line" of detectors like other companies they only carry the one the Valentine one. Which is widely accepted as the "Bench mark" for radar detectors, and radar detection. As far as priceing? 399.00 dollars plus the 29.00 case is recommended. With a unit as nice as v1 you better have a case to put it in. I'm going to be sending mine in for a retune here very soon as it drastically needs a retune.
That would be kind of hard no wouldn't it considering uniden is out of the detector department, since they got shut down for not Reuping FCC certifications, uniden sounds pretty cheap when it comes to detectors. Now their scanners thats a different story, their scanners are some of the best i've delt with thus far.
mine works pretty good for what i use it for...the reason why cobra radar leaks is becuase it emits a low radar signal that is uses to help cancel out false signals
Radar Detectors in California legal. Laser Jammers Illegal, although i'd be using one anyway the prolaser 3 is in use so heavily a detector alone is not enough, i'd use a kill switch on my LJ as the prolaser3 doesn't even have jam codes, neither does the ultralyte which is also in use out there, well the ultralyte does have jam codes, although it frequently gives off the E07 code no matter what so if a kill switch was used once u got to legal speeds u'd be good. N they couldn't tell.
I just bought a XRS 9430 Cobra 12 band and it works just fine. I wanted to test it out so i went to a highway that is known for speed traps. It's really good it started ticking slowly from far away. going 70 miles an hour it started ticking faster and faster and in about 10 seconds after beeping going 75ish mps i came across a cop. Pretty good range imo. idk why people say cobras suck. maybe they don't know how to mount it worth shit.
10 seconds thats it? I've got videos where im alerting k band on a x-50 for 2.9 miles try that with your cobra, between that difference and this leakage issue, they truely are an annoyance for any other true
detector on the road that is a high performance detector. Not to mention you can forget picking up Lidar. I've actually got overage with an x-50 and a valentine one of 1/2 a mile before to laser traps, i guarentee you can't say that about your cobra. Cobra and Rocky Mountain Radar have
the worst detectors you can purchase. They may be marketed very hard but that doesn't make them top notch. Cobra makes a very great CB but when it comes to a radar detector you might as well put it in front of your front tire and run it over.
Radar? HIGH. Laser Low. Laser just above the windsheild wipers, radar just below the tint band. Best of both worlds if they run both midwindsheild is the most reccomended.
I'd recommend mid windsheild, slightly tiped ~1 ~2 degree's to the front. This will ensure you will alert to every Lidar/laser speed gun hit. Also, i've noticed beyond resonable beleif, that Ka band is so narrow now days it acts like Lidar. And if you mount to High it seems to degrade it. No tests have proved it.
There have been no proper tests done of the Ka band thing I mentioned although from personal experience it seems to work better on Ka for some reason when mounted mid windsheild than when I moun on the visor. This could have to do with the metallic tint band too. You've gotta watch to not mount behind the tint band it will degrad your response times as well. As for the Ka thing, IDK the only thing I can figure is it's do to the new NARROW beam width making it harder to sniff out.
Although, Typically with radio waves they are "LINE OF SIGHT PROPOGATION" meaning you can only sniff out as far as you can see, meaning "Typically" the Higher the detector is, the more distance you'll pick up Radio waves just like CB or anything else. Although, With Ka band like i've said i've noticed what midwindsheild works better? Why maybe it's just me i'm going to have to put it to the test with my 35.5Ka, 33.8Ka, and 34.7Ka band guns and find out??
Yes thats right because a person that is concidered a Radar Fanatic and owns his own radar guns/laser speed guns/ Pop radar/ x,k,ka,Laser,Vascar,VG-2, and a Spectre II R.D.D. wouldn't know anything. Typical Cobra user.
this just proves that cobras SUCK! ive owend a cobra and a V1 2 completly diferent radar detectors and the V1 is badass....but anyways...any high end radar detector will go off to a cobra just cuz they leak to damn bad...they advertise good because of the way they make em look but overall their performance=shity.
hey uh triple homicide......stfu if ur such a bitch and im SUREEE u go exactly the speed limit never one mile over.. which i personally got pulled over before 36 in a 35! so fuck off!! radar detectors are made to save ur license because if u get screwed like i did 3 times in 6 months u lose ur liscense ....so screw off
that's not a simple radar detector, or the dsp's in either unit should have filtered it off.
imagine what would happen with you going past cars with cheaper detectors otherwise.
i imagine the guy had a jammer installed that he forgot to switch off. the alternative would be that both v1 and sti are crap at filtering out falses, which i doubt.
either way, you got owned. just think for a second before posting vids.
LOL ya, I got owned? LOL funny, ya right he had a jammer thats funny dude. What was it a phantom RCD? Like I own myself? Your a hoot man. DSP? Do you even know what that stands for I bet not? Digital signal processing. BTW moron, detectors don't look for a first and second Harmonic on the K band only Ka, so what does DSP have to do with it buddy? LOL (I'm guessing this guy works for Cobra, as he still doesn't even understand these electronics." I'll post any vid I want man.
It's called my 1st Amed right. Freedom of press. Secondly, maybe you should think about posting comments to a vid in which you know nothing about, although think you do.
yup, some video on this site will show the laser defense between the two, and v1 has had ridiculious pick up with my experience on k band, at least a mile or more on the highway
Agree'd. Although the Bel 995 smoked my v1 on Ka band pop once i was enthralled! :O. It is a darn good unit on pop too, and NMA's rev. 3 X-50 did awsome on pop too? Check the invatational video I made we have 67ms pop enforcer, and a 16ms z35 in our arsenal to help test. So i've seen what they can truely do against it. Pop isn't really used much anyhow, and typically if they pop they legally have to go CO or IO legit so pop is kind of a sales ploy. Cause you'll typically pick it up anyhow
Whistler. Just don't go cobra. Yes a Whistler leaks bad, although, it won't typically set of a higher end unit. And will typically give you better detection than a cobra, or early warning. Whistler should be the budget minded mans detector.
All the leaky Cobras I've encountered have been on the Ka band. For some reason, they don't detect themselves. I've seen Cobras leak 35.0, 33.5, and 34.4 Ghz with my X50.
The V1 usually false more, but it is the best at picking up actual police radar. The STI has a higher filtering "threshhold" which is why it picked up the Cobra a little closer.
LOL "Leaky piece of shit, leaky piece of shit!" :P So true :)
I personally would suggest the v1 if money isn't any issue yes it falses more but once you get used to the falsing you'll learn to like the sensitivity and the arrows and not go back if urban areas and falsing are an issue for you go with the x50 blue...you can't go wrong with the x50 either..it is a stellar preforming unit..and i have nothing but great things to say about that unit i personally feel it out preforms my sti driver by far!!
It totally depends on your area. THey are all "GREAT" detectors. Really when working properly and tuned. I love the X-50 I'd have to say it is my personal Favorite. Although V1 is a great unit as well, and so is STi Driver. STi has been known to let me down on K-band on occasion Even after coming back from a retune, it was shaddy on K band. But in my area you just saw the height of town, so there isn't alot of falsing, so I can get away with a more sensitive unit you know?
Not saying that the V1 and STI are not good detectors, in fact they are the probably the best. Just have to put up with some of the falsing you will get from other super high frequncy receivers. Mine picks up my On-Star unit.
WOW interesting, i've heard complaints that they are so senitive from buddies that they pick up their cell phones on X band as well. Have yet to see this happen myself though. Even though I have the same phone, maybe it's manufactuing varience who knows? Onstar, yikes, you know what they plan to do with that in the future? Have it come across and say your "Speeding" it you don't slow down the local authorities will be contacted. So onstar is overrated man, and i'd never have it myself.
V1 is more sensitive. At times. On certain bands. It will pick up a quicker IO than STi Driver. Although, In our recent Test STi Beat V1 on 35.5Ghz Ka band by roughly 10Seconds. So, if 35.5Ghz Ka Golden eagle or Mccoy's Law line/Decatur Ka is used in your area, I'd say STi. If K band is more of an issue I'd say V1 most definetly. My STi has always been weak on K band alot of times. Except for the VG-2 vid it had a shinning moment. It's all on what is in your area.
And yes STi Does have better sheilding. ALthough honestly I'm not a firm beleiver that they sheilded it a hole lot better? I personally think all they did was move their leakage freq from the Super Het receiver to a "White Noise" area. Basicly in essence an area like the squelch or "White Noise." on your CB very similar. Meaning if you attempted to design an RDD to pick it up it would simply alert constantly and Prove useless. They "Claim" it has better sheilding, and special gaskets.
As far as it "Actually" having such things that are so much better in sheilding the local ossillator that is "Totally" debateable. Since no sheilding can completely cloak out leakage from a local Ossilator really not from what i've seen and I own a Spectre II R.D.D. and two Vg-2 RDD's. I personaly think they just moved their leakage freq to a Noisy Freq or birdie channel so the officer can't distinguish which it is. Is it undetectable Totally? No not totally. To any RDD out there yes, acording to some, although there is a so called Prototype RDD in use in VA, that "Supposedly" can pick up the STi Driver at 500ft already. WHich isn't that far fetched considering you can pick up a Bel Sti Driver all the way across a room with even a low end analog scanner set to the 460Mhz region. You can see this for yourself with a simple search feature scan and turning the detecotr on and off.
You can even see the scanner then latch onto the detector's electronic leakage, then when you turn it off it will imediatly begin to scan again. Meaning your picking up the Bel STi. Which goes to show, it is still leaking. Just in a different area. Meaning "Could" a RDD be made to nab it? You bet, and I think it will happen in full production in "DO" time.
