Ive watched 14 comets in the past decade that were not released to the mainstream media. All of them have been just comets. All of them have been much more impressive than Elenin. Were they a media blackout too?
Some scientists say Elenin is a "wimpy comet....I think a comet or object who has an 10,000 year orbit is most like likely not wimpy at all and could most likely be very large and dangerous..(comets and astroids with 2 to 10 year orbits are probably wimpy!) @QueueBionique You're right about comet Holmes and it is true that the size of a coma on a comet doesn't really mean anything because comets are made up of ice, gases, and dust. My opinion of the coming catastrophes weren't based off of the size of the comet (although upon reviewing what I said it seems as such). My opinion is based off the alignments that occurred on specific dates and ancient texts. I don't know what will happen; only God does. It's better to be prepared wouldn't you agree?

I thought that was Venus, from what I had gathered. I have been watching that on Soho. Also I have been watching the JPL - seems is should be right in front of the sun right now, from us. Funny, Stereo and Soho are not showing it, unless what we are seeing on the right is it. Then it is Huge! Also we have Honda coming in at .06AU on the 15th of Aug. check out the JPL, very very close. When people hear that the size of a comet is the size of Jupiter, I suspect they are confusing the nucleus, which is the solid icy heart of the comet with the coma. The nucleus can be 5 km, while the coma, made of the difuse gas and dust coming of the nucleus can be as big as Jupiter. The tail, made of the dust and gas being blown back by the sun, can be millions of km long. Earth may very well pass through Elenin's tail, just as we did with Haley in 1910, with no ill effects.

The answer why this stuff is kept under wraps, not acknowledged officially is: National Security, Global Security. USGS hides earthquake data, no surprise there, same with NASA . I wouldn't mind some comet chunks falling harmlessly on my property, that stuff fetches a lot of money.
NASA has stated the object is 4 times the size of Jupiter, if so then it will take something the size of the sun to change its course. Asteroids would be destroyed by it completely, not change its path one fraction.

Er, 0.2 AU is about 29 Million KM. It is "close" by astronomical yardsticks, but the closest that Mars gets to Earth is about 60 Million KM... so it is not really very close. Do you feel threatened by the "closeness" of Mars?

P.S. the reason why media aren't shouting about it is because there's nothing to shout about. Elenin is not going to come very close, it's not going to look big and bright in the sky, and it's definitely not going to flip our poles.
You haven't been searching hard enough. There are some good links on Wikipedia page. There is scientific data from JPL and the Minor Planet Center. There are also some articles about it at astronomy websites. I'll message you with those links.
I've emailed Leonid and he estimates the comet to be 3-4 km in diameter, relatively small for a long-period comet.
I have been there many times. They have now changed the path to be farther away on it, then what it was originally. Other than that, there is not one bit of info out of any other source regarding it. I have not seen one astronomy group say "They have seen it with their telescopes"! Nothing, the only information is the original information about it from Dec. 2010. Besides forums posting about it last month.

it appears to be around 6 miles in size nearest close approch data ive seen is .23 and .15 it will be in direct alignment with earth between it adn the sun on march 14th/15th which is also the same day as the close approch of astroid 2000 pn1

@QueueBionique You're right about comet Holmes and it is true that the size of a coma on a comet doesn't really mean anything because comets are made up of ice, gases, and dust. My opinion of the coming catastrophes weren't based off of the size of the comet (although upon reviewing what I said it seems as such). My opinion is based off the alignments that occurred on specific dates and ancient texts. I don't know what will happen; only God does. It's better to be prepared wouldn't you agree?

Elenin is a loose agglomeration of volatile ices and dust a few miles across. It is therefore one hundred billionth the mass of our moon. (The relative difference is roughly the same as the mass of a mosquito vs. the mass of an oil supertanker.)
The comet will pass no closer to us than 84 times the Earth-moon distance.
There will be little to zero effect on the Earth.

Position as of midnight 11/12 april: 10h 58' ... +4º 58'
low in leo near border with Sextans
magnitude 13.7
Tracking fairly straight and even across the corner of Sextans and back into Leo - to 10h 39' ... +6º 54' at mag 13.2 on midnight Apr 30th/1st may.
After this it will turn retrograde and head east across Leo for a while.

It isn't bright - it is way down at 13th magnitude, because it is small.

When people hear that the size of a comet is the size of Jupiter, I suspect they are confusing the nucleus, which is the solid icy heart of the comet with the coma. The nucleus can be 5 km, while the coma, made of the difuse gas and dust coming of the nucleus can be as big as Jupiter. The tail, made of the dust and gas being blown back by the sun, can be millions of km long. Earth may very well pass through Elenin's tail, just as we did with Haley in 1910, with no ill effects.

It has actually been named ELENIN (ELE for extinction-Level Event & NIN for goddesse).
It is actually now believed by some that ELENIN is NOT a comet, it is a brown dwarf! Had it been a comet it would basically pause no threat & they would have been advertising it. Lets hope for the best.

The reason for the silence is that ELEnin is/was code for insiders.
No other scientist has been able to confirm this comet.
The name is code for
Extinction Level Event - Nibiru Is Near,.... or something similar.
It's code speak for insiders. Not a real comet. basides, a comet is nothing serious.

@macpduff i have chatted with Mr. Elenin on line several times. he is a real person. he is also known for another discovery of an asteriod in space a couple years ago. any attempt to twist his name around to match conspiracy theories is a waste of time. however, that does not mean that we know everything about the comet/object. we don't know how large it is yet, or how close it will get to us, or if there are other objects coming with it. Mr. Elenin estimates it at 3 to 4 Kilm. (first guess)

The elites don't need a secret code word announced world wide before they would know what to do. they are 3 steps ahead of everyone anyway. This thing is NOT a comet, its 2.5 times larger than anything in our solar system, best guess has been a brown dwarf WITH moons and current path will bring it close enough if it has moons one of them could collide with ours or the earth. ssd accounts for the path but not the gravitational pull, mid-march it'll be close enough to effect the earth.

The answer why this stuff is kept under wraps, not acknowledged officially is: National Security, Global Security. USGS hides earthquake data, no surprise there, same with NASA . I wouldn't mind some comet chunks falling harmlessly on my property, that stuff fetches a lot of money.

NASA has stated the object is 4 times the size of Jupiter, if so then it will take something the size of the sun to change its course. Asteroids would be destroyed by it completely, not change its path one fraction.
It is Elenin, not Ele nin... one word not two. It is named after the guy who discovered it.
Part of the WISE telescope was shut down, the part that ran out of coolant, nothing going on here, move along.

Er, 0.2 AU is about 29 Million KM. It is "close" by astronomical yardsticks, but the closest that Mars gets to Earth is about 60 Million KM... so it is not really very close. Do you feel threatened by the "closeness" of Mars?

@euro944t You do know that revelations was not original to the bible and Christianity. It was included by the insane pope Augustine hundreds of years later. He decided it was written by John despite it being orginally classified as a relic from Animism. It was found in a cave in Patmos with a load of shamanic relics. The cave was well known for it's use by Shamans, hence the heavy use of visualization, animal beasts, numerology etc.

yes you right, there are lot of questions right now very little answered at all. The released data from JPL right now shows a very close flyby .23AU. It all depends in the size of that monster. May soon it will come to more public... very odd I agree with that.

P.S. the reason why media aren't shouting about it is because there's nothing to shout about. Elenin is not going to come very close, it's not going to look big and bright in the sky, and it's definitely not going to flip our poles.

You haven't been searching hard enough. There are some good links on Wikipedia page. There is scientific data from JPL and the Minor Planet Center. There are also some articles about it at astronomy websites. I'll message you with those links.
I've emailed Leonid and he estimates the comet to be 3-4 km in diameter, relatively small for a long-period comet.

I have been there many times. They have now changed the path to be farther away on it, then what it was originally. Other than that, there is not one bit of info out of any other source regarding it. I have not seen one astronomy group say "They have seen it with their telescopes"! Nothing, the only information is the original information about it from Dec. 2010. Besides forums posting about it last month.

it appears to be around 6 miles in size nearest close approch data ive seen is .23 and .15 it will be in direct alignment with earth between it adn the sun on march 14th/15th which is also the same day as the close approch of astroid 2000 pn1

RA 11h 48.015m DEC -0' 1.392' in constellation Virgo. I just viewed it last night, Man you must need a bigger scope.
